23.01.2022 So I tried it out. Doing a yoga practice without over breathing without any ujjayi breath. I decided to make sure that I breathe as though I was resting, keeping my belly soft, my pelvic floor open and moving from my Dantian (area just below the navel). Even though I was doing a variety of easier and stronger poses I maintained this quiet breathing and ensured that my exhalation was passive not strenuous where I wouldn’t be able to hear my exhalation or at least barely. The r...esult is that I felt a deep calm and I still felt my core engaged but spacious internally. The energy was still moving through me.. I felt a broad yet focused meditative awareness similar to when I ujjay breath but the subtle effect was different on my nervous system its hard to describe, but maybe the word is more ‘nurturing/replenishing’ I felt like I was moving more from the centre of my being and was still able to go deep in poses without using the ujjayi breath. I feel wonderfully calm yet I feel like I’ve ‘worked out’ I think personally for me the ujjayi breath has its place and I will still practice it ‘occasionally’ in the more challenging poses as it does help me to sharpen my focus and create internal space especially when I’m trying to embody a complex pose .. (isn’t that funny, we embody complex forms with our bodies to create freedom, simplicity and disentangle internally) but the rest of the time I will balance it with natural breath from the pelvic/lower belly.. it just feels better to breathe less in this way now.
