25.01.2022 PHONICS LESSON TIME Today we are learning the sound ou as in couch. There are two common ways to spell this sound - ou and ow. We use ou at the start and in the middle of words (e.g. out and mouth). We use ow mainly at the end of words or before er tower, el towel, l growl and n clown. After we practicing using this sound reading single words and spelling them - we will read a short story containing lots of ou/ow words and the previous rules we have learnt! HAPPY LEARNING

25.01.2022 Starting high school is a huge transition for kids especially those that struggle with organisation. I find the best way to keep my kids organised is to colour code their books and folders. For each subject, I get them an exercise book and colour matching display book and/or document wallet/binder. I also grab them a clipboard where they can keep up to date to do lists, calendars etc. I love these exercise books as the pages are also the corresponding colour - so they are not just relying on the front cover. We all know how much kids love to scribble all over the covers

22.01.2022 Two targets in today! Practicing our short vowel CVC words AND learning all about letter placement using our Dirt Grass Sky Paper. Firstly, we check his spelling and then the letter placement. The student will use the little balls to show whether he thinks its correct or not. He then gets out his dirt grass sky exercise book and double checks using the letter look up on the last page. 15.01.2022 I find my students always request the same games or when asked what they want to play they dont know... so to mix it up Ive put an activity in each folder and now they have to pick a folder and thats what activity we will complete! Weve been doing this for a couple of weeks now and its working so well!! All the activities can be used for a range of literacy & speech sound targets Let me know if youd like to see what activities Ive included!

12.01.2022 How do you keep your children organised? This is the organisational system that I set some of my students up with at the start of their sessions with me. Each student gets: * A4 Mesh Wallet * Dirt Grass Sky Exercise Book or Pad * Toe by Toe (For those students who will be using this program) * A5 Mesh Wallet (to use as a pencil case) * Grey lead pencils * A pen * Rubber * Sharpener They also have a binder to keep all there sheets etc in. I will show you how I organise that another day. I found when students have a good organisational system, they take a lot more pride in caring for it. Their work also seems to be a lot neater!

12.01.2022 Never again say Up to the top line or That letter needs to go to the next line in your lessons Instead, when youre using our dirt grass sky paper you can say POSITIVE phrases such as our little p has a tail so he needs to dig down into the dirt or Capital letters are tall so they all need to stand on the grass and reach to the top of the sky We all need visual clues and reinforcement, especially our little learners. 11.01.2022 A great way for my bigger kids to practice their spelling of common foods is to use letter stamps to create a shopping list. I spell the words for them and then they add each item to the list using alphabet stamps! Featuring our A5 Clipboard - Now available on our online store!!

11.01.2022 Sometimes my students can be resistant to have a go writing sentences with our target spelling rule. They either LOVE IT or HATE IT.. theres no in between .. The best way to get them started is if I have a go first and make it a little silly! This student is a wiggly worm so we use tape to keep the paper still so she can focus on her letter formation and spelling Can you guess what rule we are practicing today? Using our #dirtgrasssky

05.01.2022 This weeks #homophone trick! Two, to and too can be incredibly tricky to learn but thanks to this fun mnemonic, its easy! Sometimes I will only introduce the Two Twins to my students as I find this is one of the most commonly misspelt words! I would love to hear some of your ideas to help your children with homophones and words that are challenging to spell. Comment below
