24.01.2022 Thrilled to introduce you to our 2021 #sproutproducerprogram scholarship recipients! Anthony & Paula from #rosellaroostfarm Libby Graham from South Arm Farm Katt Ferrero from Tamar Valley Pastured Eggs... Anita & Nick Oakham from #augustflowerfarm Cate Marshall & Rupert Standing from #karoolalla We will also be welcoming back to Tasmania, one of our SPP 2020 recipients, who answered the call from WHO to support their work abroad as an epidemiologist, and so missed out on being home in Tassie for her scholarship year! Christine Bishop from Beaupre Cottage farm. Christine, you have given up your year for the good of global community in tackling this pandemic! We think you are amazing, and we can't wait to welcome you back to Tassie later in the year, ready for 2021 in #sproutproducerprogram ! We can't wait to welcome them into the Sprout Family, see them achieve great things during 2021, and best of all see them connect and build relationships with other producers. We all know it takes a village to be a sustainable farmer, as doing it on your own is a challenge, and we all enjoy eating food, so supporting our farming community just makes sense! It's what we need to do. Huge thank you to our sponsor of two of our scholarship for 2021 - Tasmanian Women in Agriculture!! We love collaborating with this crew of amazing women! Thank you! Come and meet them @crosspollinate2020 ! Tickets at www.crosspollinate.org.au/registration

22.01.2022 Tasmanian Women in Agriculture has dug deep and supported some ticket bursaries for our @crosspollinate2020 conference, specifically for meat producers. TWiA is headed up by a formidable Board of incredible people, many of whom we've had the pleasure of working closely with over the years, and we couldn't be happier to have their support, and being able to welcome the following producers to the conference. Kate Plaschke from ESKA FARM Bec Rumble from Lone Goose Farm Sophie Ni...chols from Littlewood Berry Farm and Littlewood Lamb Thanks as always TWIA for awesome collaboration, and supporting the incredible women in our ag businesses.

22.01.2022 We LOVE working with the team at Eat Well Tasmania! They support their vision of everyone eating seasonal, local, Tasmanian food from one end of the supply chain to the other! This year, they are doing it again! They have provided ticket bursaries for two lucky vegetable growers to attend Cross Pollinate 2020 at Spring Bay Mill in November. They are so committed to supporting those businesses that underpin our local food system here in Tassie! Go team Eat Well Tasmania! The lucky farmers are Jenna from @theearlybirdmarketgarden and Wouter from Seven Springs Farm! We can't wait to see you both at the event!

21.01.2022 Did you know that there is a group of people working for the Premier of Tasmania, to provide recommendations about how our state can move forward, recover and grow stronger in a post-pandemic environment? It's called PESRAC. Did you know that they want to hear from you? Everyday Tasmanian community members are able to submit their own views and ideas about what could be done to empower Tasmanians and Tasmanian businesses to build their own future on the pathway to recovery. ... You have until 30th November - don't wait, have your say and let's grow stronger together! https://www.pesrac.tas.gov.au/recovery_ideas : credit to PESRAC site.

17.01.2022 #crosspollinate2020 is going to be a bit different this year, which seems to be a theme for the year of 2020 doesn't it. Our two day event will be curated based on the challenges and the new ideas that have come about during the last 6-12 months - how can we do things differently for ourselves, for our businesses and for our community and state? Sunday will be the day when we explore PLACE and SELF. We will learn about the Spring Bay Mill site, its history and journey so ...far and the SBM team's vision for the future. We are thrilled to have Polly McGee with us again! This time, Polly is going to give us an amazing session on how to rise from challenges or trauma in our lives. Then, Di McShane from HealthSeek will take us through an exploration of habits, and how we can go about changing them. 2020 has been a year of upheaval...so working on ourselves as individuals and amazing humans is fundamental. This first day will be wrapped up with a scrumptious dinner of local seasonal produce, cooked by some awesome local chefs. So excited!!!!!!!!! More info about Monday soon.... Tickets to Cross Pollinate 2020 will go live next week!

16.01.2022 Have you got your biosecurity sorted on farm? Then consider contacting Mandy Bowling at Tasmanian Farmers & Graziers Association who have these biosecurity signs for free. Having a sign on your gate is a great way of reminding people that come to your property, to STOP and think....BEFORE they walk or drive on your land. Biosecurity is everyone's responsibility and this is a great first step.... You can order the sign online, and then collect it from their Launceston office, or pay $15 for postage, or, if you are heading to the Cross Pollinate 2020 conference, then Mandy will be there on Monday and can bring it along (just make sure you tell her that this is your option when ordering). Here is the link to order: https://tfga.com.au/environment/biosecurity-sign

Kate and Iain were our Small Producer of the Year Award winners from 2019, and they will be passing on the 'baton' so to speak, to the 2020 winner! So exciting! 11.01.2022 Our #fielddayfrenzy continues!! Today we all congregated at Huski Greens with Mac and Oli to see and hear about their journey. It all started in the inner west suburbs of Sydney, where they began growing micro greens in their backyard purpose built greenhouse. They moved to Tassie to escape the busy corporate life, and gosh they have achieved a lot. Take homes today were that you need to look at what parts of the business you have (product range etc) but then think about what... you are passionate about and what bits of the business do you enjoy. Work out your own ethos and values and stick to them! Find providers and customers that align with those values, to get the right fit. Oh and another thing we learnt today...Oli is the Macgyver of agriculture and we all need to have one of him on our farms!! Amazing techniques, tricks, systems and thought processes that have made streamlining production so much easier in their business. Awesome work you two! Thanks to Russ and Anita from Tasmanian Kitchen Pantry for our scrumptious morning tea

11.01.2022 Are you staying on site at Spring Bay Mill on Sunday night?

11.01.2022 With the delays this year due to COVID-19 we are in the middle of a #sproutproducerprogram field day frenzy!!! Another day yesterday on Sue and Narelle’s farm, Bridgenorth Berries. A great day of learning, sharing and lots of laughing too. The take home from the brainstorming session was that in order to be sustainable in farming as people, you need to find the right farming business model that is aligned with your goals and stage in life. It needs to be ‘fit for purpose’ tha...nks Bec for that phrase! Just because you ‘could’ do something doesn’t necessarily mean you ‘have’ to. Look out for the summer season on this farm and get ready for some great Pick Your Own berry opportunities. We did a workshop on pests and disease on farms and thanks so much to @heirloomtony for teaching us about your approach, showing us your books, and encouraging all of us to take notice, watch our plants and always ask others as they may have some good ideas for tackling our problem pest or disease. Thanks also for the most amazing pumpkin soup for lunch from the legends Mike and Loz Felds Farm scrumptious!!!

10.01.2022 #sproutproducerprogram field day number 2!! Valley Fresh Farm has achieved so much in just a short 18months!! Rob has managed this first full season of growing in a glass house so we’ll, by just doing things bit by bit, learning as he goes along. It’s great to get a group if farmers together to share and learn from each other. Great day! Thanks also to Our Mates' Farm Matt Tack, for talking to us about his techniques for calculating cost of production. What gets measured, gets managed! Great moto!

10.01.2022 Great story about the CEO and founder of OzHarvest Ronni Kahn last night on ABC's 7.30. Watch it when you get a chance. The take home for us...."People and planet is really all we have, and the connection between them has got to be to value BOTH. Until we value the food we grow and how we look after our planet, our lives will be fundamentally impacted, for the worst." Couldn't agree more strongly Ronni! ... Our #crosspollinate2020 conference this year is all about changing the conversation about our food systems here in Tassie....let's do this Tasmania! https://www.abc.net.au//ronni-kahn-looks-back-on-/12700434

08.01.2022 Soil....it is everything! It is the life blood of all farming, and well...our existence as humans really. The Federal Government are developing a National Soil Strategy, and they want to hear from you! Take the time to put your views into their survey, so we can really drive some positive outcomes for our climate and future generations. https://haveyoursay.awe.gov.au/national-soil-strategy

03.01.2022 Another panel member has joined our ranks for Cross Pollinate 2020 - Tom Westcott. Chef Tom McHugo's Hobart Hotel, fermenting fanatic and amazingly committed and genuine human being. I (Jen) first met Tom when I had just started at Sprout in 2016, when Tom was heading up the Heavy Metal Kitchen at MONA, here is a great snap of him on that day. From then on, Tom has always been a part of our food conversation here at Sprout, always ready to offer his thoughts on various chal...lenging aspects of our food system here in Tassie. We LOVE Tom for his unfaltering commitment to Tassie growers and farmers, he builds incredibly strong relationships in this space, and treats them like a very even two way street, which we think is exactly how it needs to work for both parties - hospitality and farmer! Tom will be bringing his insights and thoughts about the Tassie food system to our panel on Monday at Cross Pollinate 2020. Get your tickets now - they close on 29th October!

02.01.2022 Well, we've been a bit quiet on socials for the last few days....that's because we were having an absolute blast, hosting our annual conference Cross Pollinate at Spring Bay Mill with over 60 producers, foodies, industry reps and more attending. It was an incredible event with great outcomes of openness, problem solving and knowledge sharing in a safe space. It could only turn out this way, because those that attended the conference were honest, collaborative and vulnerable ...and they were all there to get the most out of the day, by putting in 100%. Thank you. Thank you for being a part of the day, the discussion and ultimately a part of the ongoing action that will be required to Grow Stronger together into the future. So many helpers, sponsors, speakers and panel members to thank: Spring Bay Mill NASAA Organic Tasmanian Women in Agriculture Eat Well Tasmania National Drought and North Queensland Flood Response and Recovery Agency FermenTasmania ActiveVista Blundstone Australia (for our Small Producer Award) Big hART's Scott Rankin (for the most provocative and impactful keynote speech I think we have ever had).
