Sprys/ Calrossy Shorthorn X Angus steer named Shane the Shangus (by the Calrossy students) was awarded the Champion Trade Carcase and Virtual Taste test award as part of the replacement Sydney Show 2020 Led steer competition. With a weight gain of 1.87kg per day, liveweight of 493kg, a carcase weight of 272.4kg, fat specs of 13 & 6, marble score of 2, an EMA of 75 sq cm and calculated meat yield of 67.5%. This steer, bred by Gerald & Lynden Spry of S...prys Shorthorn & Angus Studs Wagga Wagga, was prepared by Calrossy Anglican School and obtained an MSA index of 64.41 and total carcase points of 87.4. It was considered the optimum steer for the Woolworths Trade competition, possessing ideal meat quality to also win the Virtual Taste Test award. 01.01.2022 NEW SIRE We are extremely excited and proud to offer our first shorthorn bull, Sprys Goldenrod P39. A bull to take the shorthorn breed forward, as well ...as commercial producers looking to add hybrid vigour, maternal strength and calving ease. Goldenrod P39 was top priced bull at Sprys 2020, 56 years of Breeding Sale, selling for $30,000 to Glenalbyn Properties, Wilcannia, NSW. Goldenrod P39 has outstanding phenotype, very well balanced with excellent structure, great disposition & feet coupled with a very good set of EPD data, tested in a Homozygous polled package. He is in the top 2% for calving ease, top 4% for the All Purpose Index EPD, the top 10% for BWT, top 10% MCE, and top 20% Satiability & top 30% Docility. His scrotal, was measured in April 2020, at 43cm and he was born at 33kg. Goldenrod P39 is out of a 2 year old heifer, born unassisted. His Dam, Sprys Miss Buddy M36, is in the Sprys elite donor herd and has been flushed with embryo’s exported to the UK. She is medium framed, structurally very sound with an excellent udder construction and teats. Goldenrod P39’s Grand Dam is also in the Sprys elite donor herd, she is very stout made, has excellent structure & udder with embryo’s sold to the Bowman Family in the USA. Also, The Grove Primrose A742 has 60 calves registered with Shorthorn Beef and has produced many sires for the breed. As you can see, P39 is stacked with many outstanding breeding females.
