25.01.2022 It is with great sadness that SPUMS shares the news of the tragic loss of Dr Fiona Sharp. Fiona Sharp was a highly valued member of the Australian and international diving and hyperbaric medicine community, as well as a beloved character at many conferences. Her infectious enthusiasm for the field of diving and Hyperbaric medicine, and the sport of tech diving will be sorely missed.... Our deepest sympathies are with her family and friends at this time. https://www.9news.com.au//b05f0a4f-0153-47e0-a72e-e9fb1785

10.01.2022 Bula As SPUMS Convener, I would like to update you on the latest events after the cyclone that caused so much devastation on the Fiji Islands. I have been in touch with the hotel and they assure me they were not hit too badly fortunately and have returned back to normal duties. They assure me that the SPUMS Annual Scientific Meeting will not be affected by this catastrophic event that has affected their Country. An email I received from the InterContinental informing us of ...the following... InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa would like to support those that were affected by extreme category 5 Cyclone Winston having passed through the Fiji Islands on the 20th and 21st of February. This cyclone was the 2nd most powerful ever to be recorded on Earth with winds of up to 325 km/ph. The cyclone passed though the Fiji Islands leaving in its wake a trail of destruction, broken hearts and spirits. There has been a loss of lives, communities have been affected, villages desolated and infrastructural damage is already mounting into the millions of dollars. A Cyclone Relief Fund has been set up to allow you to contribute towards rebuilding Fiji and getting our beautiful country back on track. All monies collected will be handed over to the Prime Ministers Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Fund. This fund will be used for food, health care, clothing, as well as the rebuilding of homes and schools. To make a contribution towards this fund, please click on the following link: www.generosity.com//fiji-cyclone-winston-disaster-relief-f On behalf of the family at the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa, we thank you for your support in helping us rebuild a better Fiji. Vinaka vakalevu, InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa If you have any concerns please e-mail me - if you have not yet registered I encourage you to do so, it is looking to be a fantastic Conference. To those of you who have registered, I look forward to seeing all of you soon. Douglas Falconer SPUMS ASM Convener 2016

08.01.2022 IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF SPUMS AND CONVENER 2020 SPUMS ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING, TUTUKAKA, NEW ZEALAND Dear members, conference delegates and accompanying guests. It is with regret that the Executive Committee of the South Pacific Underwater Medicine Society has today announced the cancellation of our Annual Scientific Meeting planned for 19-24 April 2020 at Tutukaka based on the rapidly evolving situation around COVID-19 (Coronavirus). In addition, the World... Health Organisation has declared the Corona virus outbreak a pandemic. This is an unprecedented situation in our living memory. The decision has not been made lightly, but the Executive believes the Society needs to respond appropriately to recent travel restrictions imposed on many of our delegates by Australian and New Zealand health services, and current advice from the New Zealand Ministry of Health, and to eliminate health risks for delegates associated with travelling to and attending the meeting. The ASM organising team are currently working through the process of cancellation and will contact all delegates with more information as it becomes available. Yours sincerely Clinical Professor David Smart SPUMS President DR Greg van der Hulst SPUMS 2020 ASM Convener On behalf of SPUMS Executive Committee
