Here she confidently and carefully made her way through a Long Division question. We’re starting to look at Fractions with her. ... How do you think she’ll go with Fractions next week? If you need help with Long Division or filling knowledge gaps, let us know. We’re here to help. See more

24.01.2022 Tourism Riddle 11: Girl in the Red Centre Comment the answer if you know what this is. The answer and information on it will be posted this afternoon. We’re coming to the end of our Walk, but there’s still time to join on the Pacer app, you can do that here with the code BRP1079 or with this link: https://buff.ly/2FNyZij

23.01.2022 This was a really niche and difficult riddle! We’re looking for somewhere to do with clipped wings, staying dry and staying ‘here’. Clipped wings refer to not being able to fly, usually this is about birds, but today it’s about aircraft. Staying dry is important for aircraft storage. That’s why today’s location is Asia Pacific Aircraft Storage (APAS), outside of Alice Springs. - Interesting fact: APAS can store up to 100 aircraft at anytime, and each plane can cost $5, 000 ...per month to maintain. If APAS is at full capacity for 20 months during the COVID-19 lockdown, how much money does APAS receive? - Interact: Here’s a news report of aircraft landing at APAS: https://buff.ly/33dyiI6 See more

23.01.2022 Thank you all for joining us on our Virtual Walk from Melbourne to Uluru. I hope it was enjoyable to join the walk, and interesting to see parts of Australia. You can always go back and do the riddles again, and do the interactive elements again. They’re like mini-excursions. It’s a great thing to do with the family. - You can still add to the Virtual Walk’s total distance until tomorrow evening. Make sure to stay active, even during the school term!... - Tomorrow, it’s back to school here in Melbourne, and Square Root will be re-starting our tutoring for the term. If you’d like to finish the year strong with your maths, feel free to get in contact with us. I hope you enjoyed the Uluru excursion! See more

21.01.2022 Success Story Here we have a Year 6 Girl working on her conversions between Fractions and Percentages. She’s showing off many of the fundamental skills, including multiplication with fractions, long division, short division with fractions, and learning ratios. This is seriously awesome skills being demonstrated by someone still in PRIMARY SCHOOL. When she started private tutoring, she struggled to answer 26 x 14 when it was written down. She spent 10 minutes in the sessi...on second-guessing the correct method to use, how to do it, and she ended up with the incorrect answer. She felt flustered, confused and needed structure to solving problems. Now look at what she’s able to do! We’ve taken the time to systematically build each of the required skills, so that these numbers are simple for her to work out. This allows her to focus on the skill we’re learning. . If you would like your kids to have this much improvement in less than a year, simply let us know. We’re here to help. See more

20.01.2022 Welcome to Term 4!

20.01.2022 Success Story Here’s one of our Year 6 Boys doing angles. This little man is an absolute legend! He changed schools at the start of the year, had issues with his maths teacher, has had a range of traumatising family events, been in lockdown for 6 months, and has now become ill. We only know about this from his mum letting us know. He never talks about any of it, he never complains, he never uses any of these things as an excuse. He takes it all in his stride. He attends ...his sessions, enjoys them, and is constantly improving. He looks forward to the challenges we pose for him, and showing his skills off in tests and class. We look forward to seeing his development over the next few years. What a legend! See more

14.01.2022 It’s great to see people sending in family pictures from times at these locations! Today, we were looking for Central to Top end which is talking about the Northern Territory. - Interesting fact: The Northern Territory is the 11th largest state or territory (country sub-division) in the world. It has a land area of 1, 419, 000 square kilometres and is comparable to the country of Mongolia in size. If the Northern Territory was a country, it would be the 19th largest country... in the world. Queensland is the 6th largest sub-division in the world with an area of 1, 851, 856 square kilometres and is similar in size to Sudan. If it was a separate country, it would be the 16th largest country. The largest Australian sub-division is Western Australia with an area of 2, 645,615 square kilometres. It is the 2nd largest sub-division in the world, and is comparable in size to Kazakhstan or Argentina. If WA was its own country, it would be the 10th largest country in the world. The largest sub-division is Sakha Republic in the North-East of Russia. It has an area of 3, 083, 523 square kilometres and is similar in size to India. If it was a country, it would be the 8th largest country in the world. 10.01.2022 Everyday Maths Percy watched Disney’s UP and wanted to see the number of balloons required to move his own house. He knew that balloons are 42cm in height. What would be the volume of the balloon if it was a sphere shape? (2 marks) He does a little maths and finds out that 2 of these balloons will have 1.05 kg of lift. If he estimates his house weighs 156,489.4 kg, how many balloons will he need to lift the house off the ground? (1 mark)... For every extra meter off the ground, he requires 20 extra balloons. If he wants the house to hover at 108 m from the ground, how many extra balloons will he need? (1 mark) See more
