23.01.2022 - Nothing stands still plan for growth Save this post for future reference if you’re not planning your build just yet ... Your business is growing and depending on how long you’ve already been in business you’ll either by growing as fast as a puppy or as slow as Grandad’s earlobes (because ears and noses never ever stop growing) Your website or your website design needs to allow for your foreseeable growth. This means thinking ahead to where you want your business to be in 12 months, two years or even five years to make sure that the platform and design you’ve selected will stretch and grow with you. If you’re thinking you’re just going to pay that guy from that Facebook Group $300 to build your whole website on that platform he recommended and in six months once you’ve got a bit more cash you’ll do it properly then I’d challenge you if you can’t either prioritise the website build or wait six months. Rebuilding a website or paying someone to come in to fix mistakes or get something up to scratch can sometimes (almost always) be just as costly as getting your website built properly the first time. Sometimes paying less is not always cheaper. Did you know that we build out of the box custom Squarespace websites for awesome businesses just like yours? All our websites come with complete support like handy dandy documents, walkthroughs and check ins to make sure everything is A-OK We’re taking bookings for brand new website builds starting in June, book in for a chat below. https://www.squawkdigital.com.au/book #GetSquawked #SquawkDigital
22.01.2022 Today is the first Q+A session for the attendees of the Streamline Your Socials course. Pumped to have amazing conversations about their business, how they utilise social media and what's changed since they started the course around 10 days ago. #GetSquawked #SquawkDigital
20.01.2022 I love me a podcast - LOVE IT!- but I stopped listening to A LOT of my business podcasts because I got sick of people glorifying "hustling" It almost felt like this weird competition to see who worked the most nights, the longest weeks or took the least time off. Sure owing a business isn't the easy route, and I might genuinely slap the next person who downplays my work as "playing around on Facebook" but I am started to feel like hours became the justification for the validi...ty of their career choices. Or perhaps it's me getting angry whilst I sit alone in my car listening to this? I would love any podcast suggestions where it's normal biz chat - bonus points if its Australian. : @tash_guthrie

15.01.2022 Writing your list for Website Santa Save this post for future reference if you’re not planning your build just yet ... Sometimes when we’re building stuff we put form over function Like that beautiful teapot that isn’t great at pouring tea, dripping and dribbling it everywhere Or that beautiful scandi couch that looks so pretty but makes you feel like you’re sitting on a pew with a sore bum Or that website that screams beautiful design and countless hours agonising over the perfect font but where you can’t find anything and it loads like a motherfu you get the idea The navigation, content, loading speed, layout and interconnectivity are all just as important as the font, colours and branding elements. No one really wants to spend time with the beautiful person with zero going on upstairs, nothing interesting to say and no sense of humour. So here are some tips Have a critical look at direct competitor websites and those who are in other industries who are targeting a similar audience. Compare and contrast, find the similarities, consider the stuff you’ve responded to positively and the stuff you didn’t like. Be super observant of if and when you got bored and why that happened. How do the design choices compliment the navigation or make your whole experience better. Think about your business goals and requirements for your website but also what requirements and needs your clients will have. What do you need to implement or consider to make sure your website is nailing both of those options as it really can’t neglect one to serve the other. Consider all the things that you want on your website about, home and contact pages, online shops or services information, online calendars or booking agents, galleries or music libraries, blogs or news articles. And then, using a pen and a piece of paper, map it out a little like a family tree. Well a really incestuous family tree as we won’t be drawing vertical lines but diagonal and horizontal lines between related pages or content. By having a little stalk around and a pre-plan you’ll be forcing yourself to slow down and really think about the structure and purpose before you spend more time thinking about that perfect shade of teal green then what’s on the page Did you know that we build out of the box custom Squarespace websites for awesome businesses just like yours? 15.01.2022 Teamwork makes the dream.website Save this post for future reference if you’re not planning your build just yet Like anything else the best project outcomes come from the people that get you, that you vibe and communicate with well, that you truly love working with. ... Website building is a bit of back and forth, getting the right information, understanding your needs and sometimes picking up the wrong end of the stick. You need to have a good working relationship with any third-party person or business you choose to work with. Realistically you need to be able to tell them that they’ve not got it quite right and not be worried about their reaction. #youknowit Pick someone to work with that fits with your budget, has the skills and experience to bring your vision to life, can share with you testimonials and examples of past work and lastly, and this is our preference, is fun and honest. You don’t want to be working with someone who fibs, embellishes their skills and learns with your or who never delivers quite what they said. Honesty is a big part of what we do, and we will absolutely recommend another agency or freelancer if we’re not the right agency for the job. Because it’s important to us that you feel positive when you #getsquawked even if it’s for a super brief time* *I realise this sentence sounds.off. But I (Millie) think that’s part of the charm and hilarity of it comment down below if you think it’s a bit unfair Did you know that we build out of the box custom Squarespace websites for awesome businesses just like yours? We’re big believers that you should own your own platform and truly understand how to update it if you want to. All our Squarespace websites come with a handy dandy document to help you manage it long after you’ve taken ownership with nifty links, best practices and just stuff you’ll find helpful in managing the heath of your website. We also keep checking in a few months after the website has been launched to make sure it’s working as we built it and change anything that isn’t working at no cost to you, of course! 15.01.2022 Hello - this is Sally I asked Sally to come by and join the Squawk Digital team back in February. And then when I found a chance I would introduce her with some pretty pictures.... Since then there's been COVID, an office move, a bit of a services restructure for us and... well....2020 . And all this time I kept waiting to introduce Sally to you till it seemed right. But now it's been so long it kinda feels like I have been hiding her away. Also something I learnt whilst snapping this picture of Sally - the girl hates photos Sally helps me build Squarespace websites. She's incredibly creative and has a better understanding of colour then I do She also has truly awful taste in tea #judgywudgy
14.01.2022 The brand new website for Fifteen Tables is now live! Fifteen Tables is a restaurant based in Devonport who until they contacted us didn't yet have a website. Some research on our behalf found that there was already more than 50 unique searches for their business each month on Google. Building a website would capture that traffic, allow them to view the menu, answer questions and, of course, easily book a table.... #SquawkDigital #GetSquawked
14.01.2022 It's not a bad mantra to have. It will mean you sometimes say yes to opportunities for your business that are exciting but also a little nerve wracking. But in doing that you're challenging yourself and your business to do more, learn more. Maybe this means you appear in a podcast, maybe you finally record that Instagram Live that you've been avoiding or maybe it means an exciting new project - it did for us. In the last six months this mantra has resulted in a bunch of exciting new projects that we cannot wait to share with you....#keeptuned

09.01.2022 Announcing the brand new website for Stella Arden As our local eyebrow whisperer, bringing back eyebrows that died in the 90's and taming unruly brows, Alex is flat out and needed a website that could automate the booking process - which is a far better experience for her clients as well as her. We got to work building a clean, modern website with a fairly monochromatic design that fits in with the Stella Arden branding and shows off her amazing work in the best possib...le way. As a stockist for Mooie Makeup (Tassie beauty brand!) and Synergie Skin we also integrated an online store to make it easier for clients to find and purchase the carefully chosen products Alex stocks. buff.ly/32wnR0C
09.01.2022 "A rising tide lifts all boats" "There is ALWAYS room at the top" "Invest in community over competition" "You are not in competition with anyone else"... There are loads of other digital marketers out there, in fact we work with and alongside loads of incredible digital marketers everyday either through client work or as partners in crime through the @digitalreadytasmania program. And I (Millie) never, ever look at any of them as competitors who I can't turn to for help, or talk to about work or the industry. Because when you get right down to it, YOU (yes, you) have no competition. There is no one else who's offering, experience or market is exactly the same. There is no single person or brand out there that is EXACTLY the same as you. And in actual fact you, your business, your industry and your local market are stronger and better when you work together. Cool? Cool, Coo-Coo-Cool, Cool #PeraltaForever :@@scar_illustration
09.01.2022 G'day. It's been a while since I shared my face and i think it's only far if I made Sally do it a couple of weeks ago. I'm Millie, really Amelia but I am an adult who still considers myself 'in trouble' if someone uses my full, real name. And don't even try Mrs Walker, not even my Mother in Law is Mrs Walker - her Mother in Law was and will always be The Mrs Walker.... I talk too fast, swear just the right amount and love watching people nail "it" (their biz goals, their dreams, the impossible kids birthday cake from Woman's Weekly) and I love listening to passionate people talk about their passions. I have a wonderful (not weird) varied taste in music from Gregory Porter () to Yes to Queen Bey right through to my old mate Bowie I am currently teetering on the edge of having slightly too much Lego hidden amongst the shelves at the office, but how much Lego is too much Lego #ageoldquestion
09.01.2022 We build Squarespace websites. This might seem like an innocuous statement to you but in some places on the internet, it is akin to walking up to the Queen kicking a corgi and knocking the hat off her head. There's a bunch of reasons why we offer Squarespace websites and the main one is that we believe businesses should own their digital assets and *should they wish to* be able to update them.... This is not a reality for a lot of business owners we meet and its infuriating to see people struggle with a system like Wordpress that they were told was simple to use. Wordpress is many things my friends but by no measure is it simple to use. So we've gone through the reasons why we think Squarespace is great - its a good list to run through if you're considering getting a website or redoing your existing one. Read about why we work with Squarespace here: https://www.squawkdigital.com.au//why-we-build-squarespace
08.01.2022 WTF are hashtags? Why on earth should I bother with them? and how do they work? I get asked this a lot. So I created a Masterclass for it, which was then converted into a preso for the Digital Ready program. This presentation is for you if you're still a little murky on what hashtags are, how or why you'd use them or if you're not sure on where you'd find the 'right' hashtags for your biz.... Head on over to https://digitalready.tas.gov.au//instagram-business-prese/ to watch it. : Brandalism #getsquawked
07.01.2022 Did you hear? Digital Ready is having a little makeover in 2021. The program has received some more funding and it's getting passed on straight to you. Instead of the normal 2 hours of one-to-one digital Coaching you will now receive 4 hours. ... You can book in with us now all ready for 2021 if you're keen as mustard https://www.squawkdigital.com.au/book-squawkdigital
06.01.2022 It can't just be me that does this Read a message, when you don't really have the time to reply to the message and then the message goes unanswered because Future You forgot that Past You didn't have time to reply. I'm trying to be strict with myself around only ever checking messages when I can actually reply.... But them sometimes the preview text is so tantalising that I just can't quite help myself #IamtheCatthatcuriositykilled Got a better system? #GetSquawked #SquawkDigital #tasbusiness #hobartbusiness #launcestonbusiness #socialmediaconsulting #websitedesigner #digitalmarketinghobart
05.01.2022 This is a pretty good video on how branding functions in your biz and why it's worth the investment. I know a bunch of business owners who believe it when they're told for the 100th time that branding is important and they duly pop it on their to-do list but it keeps getting pushed further and further down because they don't "get" how a consistent and authentic brand can grow their biz.
02.01.2022 When we work with a client we need to understand their business - which isn't just their products. It's also how their internal processes work, their goals and why they started a biz in the first place. It helps us come up a custom strategy that speaks to the audience but also works how that NEEDS to for that biz. When we built the website for Stella Arden it was awesome to hear Alex talk about her approach to beauty. For her beauty isn't about reshaping or redefining who you... are because you should be better. It's about enhancing the beauty that's already there. Its about making a routine less demanding so you still feel on-fire & ready to face the world with crazy morning stress. Its about helping people be more confident about those parts of us that make us self-conscious. Beauty is one of those areas where, for both sexes but particularly for women, there are so many damaging messages about needing to look better, different or 'more' that it was so nice to here a really grounded, and straight talking truth. Anywho head to the About Section on her website if you're keen to know more about her story https://www.stellaarden.com.au/about-stella-arden/ #SquawkDigital #GetSquawked
01.01.2022 It's the end of year and boy, are we ready for a giant sized coffee. We're shutting Squawk Digital HQ from 23rd December 2020 through to 13th January 2021 inclusive. We're taking time to have a break, kick up our feet and plan for 2021.... If you're getting in contact with us during this time you'll get a reply when we're back on deck, slightly tanned and free of 2020. If you're a client & you missed an email from us explaining what's happening check your inbox and if you've still got questions holler out. #GetSquawked #SquawkDigital
