20.01.2022 Composer and sound artist, Marina Rosenfeld, is the 9th composer in our 2 Minutes From Home series with ‘A martial exercise in togetherness’. The score for this... piece is in the text. Created with the Decibel ScorePlayer it contains a quantity of clues about playing the work in its language, sort of Nabokov-style. Rosenfeld lives and works in Brooklyn, NYC. Since the early ‘90s, when she created the first 17-woman sheer frost orchestra, her works have foregrounded participation, sociality, transdisciplinarity and a feminist approach to noise, vocality and acoustic architectures. Decibel performed ‘White Lines’ (2003) with her at the Camera Obscura program at PICA - Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts in 2011, and ‘Cannons’ during Tura New Music's Totally Huge New Music Festival that same year. 04.01.2022 Fucking Telegraph up to its old shit again, beating up on the arts industry as a waste of money. By deliberately choosing the most controversial projects funde...d by the Australia council News Limited seeks to paint our entire industry as made up of entitled flibbertigibbets who contribute nothing to the economy or the lives of our neighbours. As I type this I’m sitting in my car about to drive an hour to a primary school in Liverpool where I teach the teachers there how to teach music, by teaching the kids music while everyone, teachers and students, watch and copy me. For 95% of these kids they’d never even held a musical instrument let alone played one until Musica Viva initiated this program. I would hazard a guess the same is true of the teachers there. Music lessons for young kids have been proven to increase attention, participation in school, a sense of community, as well as giving kids who have a natural talent or interest in music a good foundation for pursuing it later in life, either as a hobby or a profession. The Arts are valuable because they keep us sane, happy, and united. No wonder News Limited spends so much time and effort trying to convince Australians how useless we are. How much longer are you going to put up with this brainwashing? #auspol #defendthearts
