10.01.2022 Writing a submission can be an overwhelming and daunting task! Your personal story is one of the most powerful tools you can use to influence decision makers. This workshop will teach you how to use your personal story to create a world changing submission! What will happen at the event? - Meet your fellow nature lovers... - Get an overview on the situation with Victor from Environment Victoria - An introduction into submission writing - Receive a guide and tips on how to write your submission - Access to example submissions - Start writing your submission - Detailed instructions on how to send your submission once completed This event is for anyone who loves our beautiful bays, wants to acquire new skills, and learn how to protect our oceans and marine life. AGL has proposed to build a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) at Crib Point, Westernport Bay, with a connecting 60 km pipeline to Pakenham. Westernport Bay is home to Weedy Sea Dragons, Australian fur seals, dolphins and a wide range of migratory birds. Humpback and Southern Right Whales visit each winter, and the wetlands are listed as internationally significant with RAMSAR. The FSRU is a 300-metre long and 45-metre wide ship-like structure. This structure would sit permanently in the bay and convert liquified natural gas (LNG) back into gas a process that involves heating the LNG by sucking in 450 million litres of seawater, chlorinating it and releasing it back into the bay 7 degrees cooler than it was before. There is a strong local community opposition to this project, that will have devastating effects on this beloved wetland sanctuary.

06.01.2022 PEOPLE OF VICTORIA!! AGL are proposing to build a gas import terminal in Western Port Bay. It's a Ramsar site and a terrible idea for many reasons... Here's 10: THE CLIMATE CRISIS... 1. We cannot afford new fossil fuel projects in Victoria GAS USAGE, MARKETS AND RENEWABLES 2. AGL’s rationale for the project ignores what we can and need to do to reduce our gas usage in Victoria 3. AGL’s gas through this terminal would not be cheap 4. The energy transition is making gas obsolete 5. Imported gas can be as bad as coal for the planet OUR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT 6. We need to protect our wetlands 7. AGL plans to dump toxic wastewater, breaching Victorian laws 8. AGL’s Environment Effect Statement does not properly address the risk of oil spills THE LOCAL COMMUNITY 9. AGL’s proposal threatens the local community with the risk of fire and explosion AGL’S TRACK RECORD 10. AGL has a history of deceptive and misleading behaviour, making them unfit to build and operate a facility like this Please take 10 minutes out of your day to write a submission to stop these selfish pigs from coming anywhere near Western Port Bay! https://environmentvictoria.org.au/how-to-write-a-submissi/

03.01.2022 For anyone who’s popped over the Bass Strait to surf here, you’d know it’s worth saving!!

02.01.2022 While we're all locked down and not paying attention, major environmental reforms are happening. The Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (1999) was put in place in order to protect Australia's land, animals, water and cultural sites. Right now, the Minister of Environment is proposing changes to the act that involves handing over federal responsibility for the protection of the environment to the State Government. Although these changes don't sound too ...serious, this actually means that the umbrella power of the Federal Government to protect the environment is diminished. State by state, this will open up opportunities for private companies to do things like fracking, land clearing and many other environmentally irresponsible things, all in the name of stimulating the post lock-down economy! Follow this link to write to your senators to let them know what you think. This is SUPER important and only takes a few minutes! https://www.acf.org.au/enviro_laws_email_senators . .

02.01.2022 This is great news. Congratulations to both Damien Cole and Sean Doherty on their new roles. You are both an inspiration, and our Fight for the Bight paddle out in Melbourne wouldn't have been half the success without your support Damien!
