24.01.2022 SRS breeding technology is the key factor that has allowed us to convert feral goats to high quality mohair producers in rapid time. Don Mudford and family at Parkdale Poll Merino Stud, Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia, are working closely with SRS breeding advisers, Keith Cowen and Jim Watts, to produce large numbers of these genetically superior Angora goats. Please watch the Landline video for more background information. And please contact Keith Cowen or Jim Watts on ema...il: [email protected] [email protected] for help and advice on establishing your own Angora goat herd.

20.01.2022 A very informative story about John and Marilyn Smith from Parrakie in South Australia is now on the Australian Mohair Company website under Mohair growers of Australia. Well done John, keep up the good work.

19.01.2022 John and Marilyn Smith started kidding this year on the 21st of September, finishing at the end of October. The kids in this photo are showing outstanding growth, open faced with little leg cover. These kids were sired by Parkdale F2 bucks. The Smith's farm in a low rainfall zone in South Australia. Their Angoras graze natural pastures and velt grass.

17.01.2022 The large scale Angora breeding program is progressing well at the Mudford family property Parkdale near Dubbo. The 1100 Angoras on Parkdale are made up of some pure Angoras plus a mix of 1st and 2nd cross goats upgraded from rangeland does from western NSW. The 1st cross fleece sold for $8.50/kilo, the 2nd cross fleece $35.00/kilo. All the wethers placed in a feedlot to be sold into the meat market after next shearing. Both goat meat and mohair prices are very high due to falling production world wide. Redesigning rangeland goats can be very profitable when done correctly. Selecting Angora bucks with high follicle density and exceptional fiber length is the key to the Mudfords success.

17.01.2022 Mohair. 15 month old Parkdale 3rd cross Billy. 180mm length in 5.5 months growth, 18micron, 11kg for twelve months, valued at $43/kg or $470 return for 12 months.

17.01.2022 One of our amazing second cross does bred here @baderloo128. Exciting to see where these unique genetics are goung to take our flock. There is a big difference ...between our cross breds and our pure does when it comes to hardiness. With goat meat at $10.30 and mohair selling for record prices its a great time to have a few of these running around. Our mohair is due to be sold in South Africa on 18th June #angoras #angora #srsangoras #mohair #srsgenetics #feralxangoras #weedeaters #agchatoz #farming #genetics #pollangoras @ Washpool

13.01.2022 These impressive 17 month old Angora wethers were bred by Dan Hammat in South Australia. They were sold for meat this week for $6.80/kg.The top 4 returned him $198.90, a great result. Improving carcass quality and increasing body weights is all part of our plan to redesign the Australian Angoras.

08.01.2022 John doing a great job shearing the goats under difficult drought conditions. The redesigned SRS angoras are performing great. The 11 month old drop shore up to 3.1kg for 7 months. The mixed aged does are cutting heavy fleeces, the best 5.4 kg for 7 months. Once again the polled angoras are cutting the heaviest fleeces on average 1 kg above their age group. That's up to 2kg more mohair per year from our polled does, a great result with mohair prices at all time highs.

04.01.2022 The ability of these animals to thrive under tough conditions is incredible. These first cross feral/angoras have run at 13 does/ha in one of the driest years o...n record. Their ability to reproduce and feed their offspring is outstanding. Another benefit is the weed control, they have killed approximately 1/2 of the horehound in this pdk and putting the rest under great stress and at the very least stopping it from setting seed!. #srsangoras #diversity #somethingdifferent #weedcontrol See more

04.01.2022 Shearing is underway at Yarran Park, some amazing fleece coming off. This photo is the fleece from 2551, 11 month old poll doe. She shore 3.1 kg of fine kid, 195mm staple length for 7 months. Does producing amazing fleeces like this are rare now but very soon we will see these animals popping up in most of the SRS flocks. The improvement in our genetics is exceeding our expectations.

03.01.2022 These exceptional young F2 does are part of a large breeding program underway at Dubbo. The Mudford family have made great improvement in their Angora flock since starting 3 years ago. The ongoing drought is holding back their plans to expand their Merino and Angora flocks. The Mudford family are strong supporters of the SRS breeding principles and the important work done by Dr Jim Watts. The young doe below produced 185mm fleece length in 6 months, fine micron mohair, good growth rates all under drought conditions.

02.01.2022 Tim Lee heads to Dubbo to find out how feral goats are supercharging a new breed of Australian angora. #WildAndWooly #noonthirty ABC TV
