21.01.2022 My latest novel - Truck That - is now available on Amazon.com - in ebook or paperback.

20.01.2022 August Reality We started with dreams for our season that would deliver us some satisfaction, something to give us a reason -... hit the finals with some sort of traction. But somewhere the wheels of our waggon fell by the side of the trail and now our faith is a saggin - rebuildings our new holy grail One by one our great hopes got injured and our draft picks failed to impress and our progress forward is hindered , by a plan well have to address The top sides are now buying tickets for September, and making their plans while we just look forward to cricket we wont need a seat in the stands a new coach and recruits are our wish that could make all the difference I hear cos the list that we have now is rubbish fingers crossed for a better next year. Ever since I have followed the football I have lived with a hope for September but before you can walk you must crawl and my knees feel theyve been in a blender and my team has won bugger-all. 19.01.2022 Jordan Lewis 300 Three hundred games in thirteen years no wonder he has the respect of his peers... Im talking about one of Warrnambools sons Jordan Lewis is one of the AFLs guns At the Hawks he was part of a great dynasty Four premiership pennants are their legacy Since he was drafted in twenty 05 he has played every game like hes in over-drive Best first year player, a fairest and best an All Australian - and a serial pest (according to both his teammates and rivals) and a determination to ensure his survival Imagine a career where a footballer claims an average each year of 23 games and then theres the distances covered in training running and kicking and in-the-gym straining Lewi has averaged 12 kicks a game thats thirty-six hundred - a mighty fine claim sixteen hundred marks and three thousand hand passes and his 800 tackles have put rivals on their arses The rebuilding Demons could obviously see the worth in recruiting the experienced Lewi Jordan Lewis has not left a thing on the park - in his 300 games hes set a bench mark of unyeilding endeavour and footballing skill and now hes at Melbourne theres more left in him still Like the 84 players whove achieved it before reaching 300 games put him in the top draw Lucy and Freddie have a right to be proud of their husband and dad who stands out in a crowd. for it takes quite an effort, of privation and pains to attain the milestone of 300 games. 19.01.2022 Didnt they itch, didnt they scratch? woollen jumpers on our backs they shrunk to nothing and the colours ran and smelled like buggery in the property van... the collars chaffed and the numbers tore wash em again and they shrunk some more. stitched up sashes, hoops and stripes and monograms for the posher types The colours came in every hue not recognised by ram or ewe from whom the raw material came to keep us warm at every game the footy teams kept the farmers going the need for wool was ever growing then some smart arse academic developed jumpers of synthetic and in a matter of a generation Un-wool jumpers swept the nation no more itchy scratchy wool and the farmers left with three bags full as easily laundered, comfy fit replaced the awful woollen kit. Farmers all gone down the drain no more producing ball or skein If they planted fields of polyesters theyd be as rich as their ancestors no longer need for them to shear to provide the players with comfy gear. 18.01.2022 A whack in the moosh is much more than a push and it isnt a part of our game I think the whack-or should be shown the door... and be punished if he is to blame But forget the red card coz the job is too hard for the umpires out on the ground they cannot judge tween king-hit or nudge if their view of the punch isnt sound If he cant see the acts he wont have the facts if the action took place to his rear and to give a red card and have the man barred is a punishment way too severe So if theres a doubt bout the whack on the snout and the report is just not conclusive yet the players removed for an action unproved the penaltys far too intrusive so lets all take a pause before adding a clause to issue a red card or worse Lets trust our staff that they wont make a gaff (sorry!) and introduce something adverse. The tribunal is there to make the game fair (tho many would fail to agree) But wait til the heat of the game is complete before imposing a final decree. The Rhymer 2018

12.01.2022 New Rules Stuffing around with the rules can be tricky Like a camels a horse drawn up by committee.... make sure the games for the on-ground eighteen Not a monster invented by Ed Frankenstein some changes make sense and should help the game but others might alter the reason crowds came Six in the front half - six in defence - four in the centre square, and two on the fence thats just how they lined up in years long ago I trust that that change will help the game flow The hands-in-the-back rule will now be scrapped. I look forward to seeing how Riewoldt adapts the kick-outs from goals can be well past the line Big kickers like Hurn will find that change sublime The changes should show what makes our game great and hopefully get bigger crowds through the gate free-flowing footy and uncanny skill. Rewarding good players who can get the pill The fifty metre rule will sure bring dissension and the rule-making-guys might give that more attention I know that the game is always evolving but limit the changes to things that need solving. 08.01.2022 I have been busy writing histories for two very interesting families - one the history of a pioneering farming couple based on letters written to England in the early 1900s; and another for a successful Italian/Scottish migrant family where recollections of generations are recorded and woven into a story. If you see the value in preserving your heritage for your kids or grandchildren, I will be pleased to discuss how to approach it and the costs involved. I charge by the hour, and the time taken depends on the approach, and information you have already. Photos and documents can be incorporated. contact me on [email protected]

06.01.2022 Predictions The season is upon us and the hype will settle down as soon as the first ball is in the air The recruiters reputations will be put to the test ... when the contest starts in earnest in the square Therell be rookies with potential and recruits from other clubs all trying to earn their spot within the team therell be bolters no-ones heard of and disappointments too and those wholl never realise their dream. And supporters will be screaming for theyve waited six long months to have footy back to liven up their lives Can the Swannies make the finals and the Dockers make the eight ? and which of the eighteen coaches will survive And we all stick our necks out by making our prediction of who will constitute the final eight. Some teams are on the improve and some whove done their dash and some on whom the bookies shut the gate The Tigers are a monty and the Eagles should be there and the Demons will disappoint us if they aint But pity the supporters of the Gold Coast and the Blues and This year will be sad if youre a Saint. Geelong and the Bombers might surprise by their improvement and Hawthorn might just get in a sniff And if there is no team from Adelaide therell be hell to pay and Lions fans could count themselves as stiff But half way through the season we will all recalibrate as injuries and poor form play their tricks Coz everyones an expert as we watch from week to week and we will shamelessly all re-adjust our picks.
