25.01.2022 October CSD - Cadet & Trainer Today was another gorgeous morning and by the end of the match the temperature had reached 25 degrees C. We only had 5 competitors but the lower amount meant that 4 out of 5 competitors could shoot both Cadet & Trainer classes. Today’s match was the 30-round 3P Core Match:... - 15 rounds @50m (offhand, seated and prone) - 10 rounds @75m (seated & prone) - 5 rounds (prone) This first 15 rounds @50m was quite promising but, as usual, the 100m scores were the reckoning. However, the 10 shots at 75m ended up sealing the scores. With a 120.4 junior shooter Bryn Wood took 1st in the 22 Trainer class, followed by his father Andy Wood in 2nd on 114.1, and veteran campaigner Ken Kenchington in 3rd with 105.1. In the Cadet class Andy Wood took 1st with 110.3, Chris Hartley took 2nd with 105.3 and James Hohnen was third with 94.1. All in all, it was an excellent morning’s shooting enjoyed by everyone. Our next Cadet & Trainer Match is on November Saturday. If you don’t own a 310 Cadet or 22 Trainer all open sighted 22LR rifles are eligible for 22 Trainer at SSAA Goulburn matches and scoped rifles can compete in a non-regulation class. If you own a Martini Henry, Snider, rook rifle or other lead bullet sub-1500 FPS rifle you’re very welcome to compete in an antique class. Consult us if you’d like to.

25.01.2022 Come along for the last Cadet & Trainer shoot this year. If you don’t have 310 Cadet or 22 Trainer any 22LR rifle is welcome. You’re also very welcome to shoot blackpowder cartridge and similar rifles. There will be prizes and the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place aggregate and average shooters in each class will also receive their prizes. There’ll also be 1st, 2nd & 3rd Junior prizes. Those in the running will be notified.

22.01.2022 Twilight Targets is BACK!! Yes, folks, that’s right. You may have had to wind your clocks forward an hour and get up an hour earlier but from now until April 1st, 2021 we’ll be shooting every Thursday evening from 5pm until dark. ... Before everyone asks, no, we don’t have high powered centrefire back yet but SSAA Goulburn & Goulburn Rifle Club are working with NSW Firearms Registry right now to try and overcome it. Meanwhile, we can still shoot rimfire, air rifles to .22 cal, black powder and centrefire under 1500fps loaded with lead projectiles. We’re looking forward to seeing you THIS Thursday, 8th October. Note: Of course, COVID rules apply; 1.5m distancing between attendees, sanitising hands, and, of course, staying away if you’re ill, self-isolating or have visited a hot spot.

20.01.2022 Yep, Twilight Targets is on again today at 5pm! Come and join us and shake out the midweek tension.

19.01.2022 Today’s 4th Sunday Range meet.

16.01.2022 Just a reminder, this Saturday morning, September 5th, is Cadet & Trainer. Come along and join us. If you don’t have a Cadet or a 22 Trainer you can bring any rimfire & compete in the Non-Regulation class. https://facebook.com/events/s/september-csd-cadet-trainer/336075530751332/?ti=icl

15.01.2022 Thursday 8th October - Twilight Targets Thursday was the opening afternoon for the Twilight Targets shoots of the 2020/2021 Daylight Savings season. The weather was cool and breezy but sunny and it was a lovely afternoon to be on the range. We only had about 5 shooters but several other members visited to sign on and catch up with other people. All in all, it was a nice day to begin the season.

15.01.2022 The range is now open!!

10.01.2022 October CSD - Cadet & Trainer Like so many of these Saturdays, the day dawned a little cool but sunny and warmed up quickly. I solid crowd of participants turned up to compete in the 310 Cadet and 22 Trainer classes and two less-experienced members brought the scope 22LR rifles to shoot the same match in a separate class. Today’s match was a modified three range event; 10 rounds at 25m, 50m, and 100m in the off-hand, seated and prone positions respectively for a total of ...30 rounds. while this match still features the challenging 100m distance the first component is encouraging as competitors find it easy to be accurate at the short 25m distance. Taking out 1st Cadet & 1st Overall was seasoned campaigner B.Musgrave with an impressive 139.3, edging out A.Wood by 2 points and 2 Vs in Cadet. A.Wood also took Overall 3rd and 1st 22 Trainer with a 132.7. A.Hale edged out her husband by 1 point to take 3rd in Cadet with 125.2 and veteran shooter K.Kenchington took 2nd 22 Trainer with a pleasing 128.2. In the scoped class C.Mavrolefterou took 1st with a pleasing 145, Colin Penfold taking 2nd with 75. It was their first attempt at a competition and a good outcome. Our next Cadet & Trainer match will be held on December 5th. Hope to see you there!

09.01.2022 September 2020 CSD - Cadet & Trainer Spring brought forth some beautifully sunny weather accompanied by the usual Goulburn breeze.....temperate but firm! We had a field of 9 competitors and half were juniors, a very encouraging sign. Three diverse matches were shot today; Match 29: Rapid Fire 25m, Match 28: Deliberate 100m, and our club event, Match 33: 2x4 50m & 100m. Rapid Fire 25m is shot offhand but the close proximity to the target means that often high scores are obtai...ned. Today was no exception, with the winners in each rifle class only 2 points off 50 and the juniors were close behind. 100m Deliberate is always a challenge, especially shooting 22lr, and it often yields significantly lower scores for the inexperienced or ill-prepared. S.Hale lead most of the rest of the field by over 20 points with only discipline newcomer D.Swinton close behind him. The last match, 2x4, is a club event that was originally created to be shot by scoped tactical rifles at 100m and 300m, but it’s just as challenging, if not more so, when shot with open sighted 22lr and 310 Cadet rifles. The random order by which the targets are engaged at both 50m and 100m means competitors must either set their sights to 50m and then compensate for drop at 100m, or set their sights for 100m and then compensate down for any extra elevation. D.Swinton took this match with 42.1 out of a possible 60 and in turn overall honours with 133.6, an outstanding outcome for his first foray into 310 Cadet competition. S.Hale placed second with 123.7 and A.Wood placed third with 110.5. Due to time limitations K.Kenchington was the only 22 Trainer able to complete all three matches and as a result he took the trainer class with a score of 93.5. There were, however, some excellent 22 Trainer scores posted in the first two events which indicate future results in this class will be promising. And finally, 16 yr old B.Wood took first in the Junior 310 Cadet class with a 88.2. He placed first in each of the three matches, especially in 2x4. D.Hale edged out his older brother in 2x4 to take 2nd with a 71.2 leaving A.Hale to take 3rd with 69.3. Congratulations should also be given to L.Swinton who, in his first outing shooting as a junior in Cadet competition acquitted himself respectably in 3 challenging matches and gained a very good score in Rapid 25m. Our next Cadet & Trainer event will be held on October 3rd at the same time and location so keep an eye on this page for details.

08.01.2022 Twilight Targets - Thursday 19th November Today the temperatures were once again warm and humid following the weeks of regular rain. Nonetheless we had a several members come out to shoot. Most notable was a Parker Hale 1853 3-Band Enfield .577 cal reproduction muzzle loader which belched clouds of smoke. Despite the mosquitoes members had an excellent afternoon. Mind you, next time we’ll be bring Aeroguard! See you next week on Thursday 25th November for Twilight Targets!

08.01.2022 November Cadet & Trainer Leader Board With one more monthly match to be shot in December the leader board has altered somewhat. Here are the current standings in both classes: 22 Trainer... Aggregate: 1st - Ken Kenchington (560) 2nd - Andy Wood (397.5) 3rd - Frank Hartley (256.4) Average: 1st - Andy Wood(117) 2nd - Frank Hartley(109) 3rd - Ken Kenchington(105) 310 Cadet Aggregate: 1st - Andy Wood(854.3) 2nd - Simon Hale(553.7) 3rd - Chris Hartley(446) Average: 1st - Andy Wood(117.5) 2nd - Simon(112.5) 3rd - Barry Musgrave(110.7) It’s understandable that many competitors may not have been able to overtake the leaders on the aggregate scores. But it is possible to improve on average scores and it was in this way that there was a change in the results.

08.01.2022 Saturday 19/10/20 - Monthly 2nd Saturday Range Meet This morning was a nice time to be on the range. Goulburn put up its usual consistent firm breeze, challenging the 22LR officianados, but it was great to be out in the air. The range wasn’t crowded, nor should it be during COVID 19, but there was a steady stream of shooters throughout the morning. The highlight was a Uberti 1886 High Wall in 45/70 loaded with black powder. The characteristic blast and subsequent cloud of ac...rid smoke created by 65gn of gunpowder behind a 300gn .458 cal lead projectile is unmistakable. Some fun was also had with a BSA Martini Cadet in 310 Greener. The next weekend practice range meet at Goulburn SSAA range will be on Sunday 25th, 2020 from 1pm to 4pm.

06.01.2022 Our branch has been made aware by a member of a serious poaching incident on Nicole Jones-Cleymans' property on Boxers Creek Road. We strongly condemn this act. If any of our members have any knowledge of this or other poaching incidents please inform the police. We cannot have criminals destroy animals and risk the rights of law abiding firearms owners and hunters.

06.01.2022 Monthly 4th Sunday Range Meet - August 23 Despite ambient temps of around 7 degrees C and a wind chill of approaching -10 C there’s still been a faithful turn up for today’s range meet. The 46kmh winds with 64kmh gusts have it made it near well impossible for Rimfire shooters to stay on the bull but a number of antique firearms have been shooting cast bullet black powder and Trailboss loads quite successfully. Shooters are, of course, social distancing but there’s space on the firing line for at least 4 shooters if not more. And even if the weather isn’t warm the welcome certainly is!

05.01.2022 Twilight Targets - Thursday 26th November, 2020 Today was a quiet and peaceful afternoon with little wind and several members turned out to have practise, chat guns and other topics, and generally enjoy the lovely weather. Most rifles were 22LR’s with the notable exception of a Martini Cadet in 310 Greener and a Trapdoor Springfield Officers’ Model in 45/70. Yet another afternoon that reinforces why many members see Twilight Targets as stress relief during the week of work. ...Come and shoot with us Thursday next week, 3rd December. https://fb.me/e/61DH5ueiJ See more

04.01.2022 For those who like to shoot milsurp rifles it’s a great opportunity. Contact us if you have questions about how Combined Services competition works.

03.01.2022 Yes, they’re here.....the mugs for the class prizes of this year’s SSAA Goulburn Cadet & Trainer Competition, to be presented after this Saturday’s C&T match. There’ll be some little prizes for the day’s winners and these handsome caffeine tankards, featuring both the fires and ‘Rona, for the overall champions and place getters. Perfect for gaining cudos from fellow cadet-o-philes and trainer-ites, impressing spouses and prospective girl/boy friends, and generally irritating disinterested relatives and acquaintances as you sip meaningfully from it during a conversation. Come and shoot with us on Saturday. Maybe you’ll get a prize! https://fb.me/e/3D9yWIcLo

01.01.2022 Twilight Targets - Thursday 5th November Thursday was another rainy afternoon but as usual it could not dampen the spirits or enthusiasm of members. While the turnout was small there was still a few shooters who needed to zero the rifles and improve on their accuracy. An upside to the wet weather was a very low wind and this allowed people to achieve good zeroing without their windage affected. Twilight Targets will be on again this coming Thursday, 12th November, from 5pm.

01.01.2022 11th of the 11th - Remembrance Day "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning ... We will remember them." Lest we forget.
