25.01.2022 Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. Yesterday's announcement from NSW Government addresses the reinstatement of interregional competitions. Interregional community sporting competitions can recommence (as of 26 September 2020) without restricting these activities to regions or zones, ensuring that: there is a COVID-19 Safety Plan for the community sporting activity in place;... physical distancing of at least 1.5 metres is maintained between people that do not come from the same household; carpools or bus travel with people from different household groups is avoided; and social gatherings before and after the event are minimised. Download the updated SSAA NSW COVID-19 Safety Plan here: https://www.ssaansw.org.au/.../SSAA%20NSW%20COVID-19... 24.01.2022 SSAA GRIFFITH RESUMES RIMFIRE SHOOTS A Cowboy Lever Action Metallic Silhouette Shoot was held at the Rimfire Range to resume the 2020 Rimfire Program. In preparation the range floor had a fresh covering of grape marc that was spread nicely by Mitchell Excavations and organised by member Ron Sosso. The white MS targets contrasted well against the grape marc. Once the fog lifted members enjoyed the 40 shot MS Match and some additional practice at the end. Everyone enjoyed using... their .22 LR lever action rifles again and declared the shoot a successful start. Mario Marin was top scorer with few targets failing to be knocked over. Everyone followed the COVID-19 Safety Plan observing the latest health measures to help keep everyone safe. The next shoot will be at the Rankins Springs Range on Sun 26 July when 200m Rimfire and Centre Fire Matches will be staged.

22.01.2022 ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS - SSAA NSW ADVOCACY As emailed to members last week, SSAA NSW have been in regular contact with the Firearms Registry regarding the requirement of completing attendances. SSAA NSW have sought exemptions for all SSAA NSW members at this time due to the escalating events regarding COVID-19. We are expecting a decision to be made shortly in this regard and will communicate with all members once it is received.... We have been advised that there may be the need for a legislative fix in the form of a temporary amendment to allow registry to deviate from any requirements prescribed by the Act / Regulations. SSAA NSW took the proactive step to advocate on your behalf almost three weeks ago as the trajectory of restrictions was getting worse in terms of social distancing. Firearms Registry have sought legal advice. In the meantime, any licence holder who cannot comply with their annual shooting requirements can be assessed on a case by case basis. As your peak Association, SSAA NSW took the lead on this issue for the benefit of all law abiding firearms owners and we expect a positive result soon. 18.01.2022 RANGE ATTENDANCE CLARIFICATION Good Afternoon, Please be advised , the Firearms Amendment (COVID-19) Regulation 2020,has recently been introduced and is now in force. This Regulation is here to assist the NSW firearms community in managing their firearms responsibilities while COVID-19 health orders are in place. ... The Regulation recognises that there are some compliance functions that licence holders may not be able to perform due to social distancing measures, such as club participation shoots. In addition, the Regulation creates exemptions in relation to certain required time periods specified in the Firearms Act 1996, in circumstances where a person is restricted or prevented from complying with those periods because of an order made under Section 7 of the Public Health Act 2010 relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the provisions of Part 3, Modifications relating to participation requirements for club members, I confirm that participation requirements for club members has been extended a further 12 months. However, it must be noted that the provisions of this Regulation are only relevant whilst there is a current order under Section 7 of the Public Health Act 2010 relating specifically to the COVID-19 pandemic. 12.01.2022 Dear Members, SSAA NSW has been working with the Department of Primary Industries and various industry groups to advocate for hunting to recommence in NSW. We have been and continue to be part of the DPI’s working forum, advocating for the return of hunting. We can now report that this advocacy has produced a positive result and State Forests will reopen for hunting purposes.... Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall has announced that from Friday 8 May 2020, NSW Restricted Game Hunting Licence (R-Licence) holders with a valid written permission issued by DPI will be allowed back into State Forests. Access to written permission bookings and hunting maps has been reinstated for R-Licence holders. Current R-Licences will also be extended for four weeks to compensate hunters for the period State forest hunting was suspended. DPI advise that social distancing and gathering guidelines, as well as guidelines around facilities use, must still be maintained. We advise all members to stay up to date on travel guidelines from the Government. SSAA NSW is proud to have helped secure this outcome for law-abiding firearms owners and hunters. Thank you,

11.01.2022 SSAA GRIFFITH BRANCH AGM AND RANGE VISIT Last night I attended the Griffith Branch AGM where we had a good dialogue on our organisation. Congratulations to Warr...en Brown for being re-elected as President. Warren and his team do an amazing job and today I had a tour of their ranges and even had a bit of time to shoot 5 stand. Thank you for having me and again thank you to NSW Board Member Warren Brown taking me around Branches in the Riverina this week. I see visiting our Branches and ranges as critical in exchanging information, engaging members who we work for and of course helping where needed. As always, see you at the range, in the field or in the Riverina! Jai Rowell - CEO SSAA NSW

11.01.2022 SMS ATTENDANCE REMINDERS Why is the system changing? Previously, only one reminder letter was sent out at the beginning of the calendar year, leaving members with only a few months to make compulsory attendances. This was inconvenient for members and often contributed to licences expiring.... When will this come into effect? SSAA NSW will be sending the SMS attendance reminders to all members who have provided their mobile number. The first of the SMS reminders will typically be sent in the middle of the attendance reporting year, between 1 April 31 March. How often will I receive an SMS reminder? Members should expect to receive updates at least two to three times per year, depending on whether they have met their attendance requirements. Why would I receive an attendance notification? If a member has not yet completed all their compulsory attendances for either Target, Hunting or Collecting then they shall expect to receive an SMS reminder. What will the SMS tell me? The text message will indicate the total number of attendances a member currently has recorded against their name in the SSAA NSW Attendance Database (please note, this is the total amount and not what is still outstanding). What if I do not wish to receive my attendance notifications via text message? Members can unsubscribe from the text messages by clicking the opt-out link within the SMS. In this case, reminders will then be sent out via email. What if I have not provided a mobile number or email address? In the event where no mobile number or email address is provided for a member, a physical letter will be distributed once a year (at the end of January). Members can update their details at any time to receive electronic notifications by completing the Change Your Contact Details form at: membership.ssaa.org.au/forms/change If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the SSAA NSW office on 02 8889 0400 or via email.

10.01.2022 100m Rimfire Benchrest Shoot Shooting in fine, still conditions the Rimfire Range hosted a 100m Benchrest Shoot recently. Using his custom .22LR benchrest rifle Robert Dal Bon posted two brilliant scores for 10 shot groups of 97/100 for each group, demonstrating his skill and consistency with this demanding match. The 200m Rimfire Target features a blowfly on the bullseye, with competitors scoring extra points if they can hit it. In the Rimfire event Mario Marin shot the highest score with his Sako range ri...fle with a score of 132/150 for 15 shots. Demonstrating how good the new Lithgow RF rifles are, and only using a bipod, Rudolph Froneman scored 125 with one hit on the blowfly. Shaun Krzus was next with 104 and 2 blowflies. In the 200m Benchrest Robert Valeri had the small group of 10 shots with a 32mm group, followed by Mario Marin 41mm with Robert DalBon and Rudolph Froneman 48mm each.

09.01.2022 SHOOTING AT THE RANKINS SPRINGS RANGE RESUMES

09.01.2022 Electronic Attendance Recording SSAA Griffith has introduced the SSAA system of recording attendances at its rifle and shotgun ranges. At a training workshop on Saturday evening SSAA staff member Katelyn Archer presented the Branch with two sets of the equipment and showed Branch executives and Range Officers in its use. The equipment has been provided at no cost by SSAA. The equipment consists of a tablet computer, printer and bar code scanner packaged in a solid case. To re...cord an attendance at a shoot a member has to simply scan their SSAA Membership Card with the member receiving a printed receipt that contains details of the total number of attendances recorded for the year. At the end of the shoot the data collected is downloaded to SSAA for recording. The new system were used at the Rimfire Shoot and Sporting Clays shoots the following day where everyone found it easy to use.

08.01.2022 SSAA Griffith Sporting Clays has cancelled the proposed 5-Stand State Selection Shoot on Saturday 22 August and changed it to a 100T Sporting Clays event commencing at 12-30pm. This is in preparation for the Dave Wallace Memorial Shoot on 12/13 September.

07.01.2022 SSAA GRIFFITH 2020 SPORTING CLAYS PROGRAMS RESUME

07.01.2022 Following the COVID-19 NSW lockdown period earlier this year, SSAA NSW branches and affiliate clubs have gradually reopened and incorporated new pandemic procedures and guidelines for the safety of all members, volunteers and staff. The ongoing efforts of the SSAA NSW community to support the shooting sports during these unprecedented times has been inspiring to all and our membership continues to grow. We would like to take this opportunity to encourage our members to revis...it their local range and re-establish their sports shooting practice. Many competitions have resumed and ranges have implemented individually tailored COVID-19 safety plans so that all may safely attend and participate in their sport. Getting involved again at your local range is an important contribution to our great sport and our hard-working community. In early March, SSAA NSW advocated on behalf of all members in anticipation of escalating issues surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, we wrote to members with regards to the Firearms Amendment (COVID-19) Regulation 2020 . This amendment provides for a 12-month extension to the attendances reporting period for 2020-2021 (now 2020-2022), allowing for ’ , - . Additionally, an exemption for the reporting year that finished in March 2020 has also been included. While this exemption/extension no doubt provides relief to many of our members, we remind everyone to remain aware of their requirements for the 2020-2021/2022 reporting period. We encourage all members to continue completing their attendances and avoid leaving their requirements until the end of extended reporting period. Last minute attendances in the January to March period in a normal year will be significantly more challenging due to restricted numbers and physical distancing as well as the possibility that the ongoing COVID-19 situation could restrict access to ranges or even close ranges in the event of an escalation. As your Peak Association, we will continue to advocate for our 57,000 members and provide an effective and credible voice on behalf of all law-abiding firearms owners. See more

06.01.2022 Refurbished shooting towers on Shotgun Range The shotgun range is fortunate in having two ex-NSW Railways converted overhead footbridges to use as shooting platforms or from which to throw a variety of different sporting clay targets. Being nearly 100 years old the timber steps needed replacing for safety reasons. Thanks to the generosity of Shane Rinaldo and SJR Industries, Griffith and a NSW Safe Shooting Grant the two towers now have new steel step tread steps making them safe to use for another 100 years.

05.01.2022 MANDATORY ATTENDANCE RELIEF - FIREARMS AMENDMENT (COVID-19) REGULATION 2020 In early March, SSAA NSW advocated on behalf of all SSAA NSW members and other law abiding firearms owners seeking an exemption and/or extension to mandatory attendance requirements. This was in anticipation of escalating measures surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the closure of ranges and the Government’s restrictions on sporting activities. SSAA NSW has been in regular contact with the NSW Firearms... Registry and other stakeholders around this issue. We are pleased that the Firearms Amendment (COVID-19) Regulation 2020 has now been made. This allows exemptions and extensions to requirements around this and other matters. SSAA NSW are seeking clarity on some details with the NSW Firearms Registry and we will share these with you in the near future. Further to attendance requirements, licence renewals affected by COVID-19 restrictions will also be addressed so that members can renew as soon as possible. In these unprecedented times, it has been encouraging to see the various shooting organisations and supporters come together to secure this outcome for all law-abiding firearms owners across the state. We also appreciate the assistance of the NSW Firearms Registry in their communications and cooperation with SSAA NSW and the wider law abiding shooting community on this issue. As your Peak Association, we will continue to advocate for our members and provide an effective and credible voice on behalf of all law-abiding firearms owners. Thank you, Lance Miller President SSAA NSW Jai Rowell CEO/Executive Director SSAA NSW

The Australian Government intends to achieve a "a COVID-safe economy by July this year" with a progress review of the plan every three weeks. The NSW Premier has announced that "Stage 1" of the ease in restrictions will commence this Friday, 15 May 2020. Stage 1 allows for the re-opening of outdoor shooting ranges (for up to 10 people), in accor...dance with strict pandemic safety guidelines. Some changes to range operational procedures must be made to ensure compliance within the scope of pandemic safety. SSAA Griffith Executive members will be meeting shortly to consider these guidelines and plan for the re-opening of our shotgun and rifle ranges at the earliest opportunity and under what conditions ensuring that all members and visitors are kept safe. Ample notice will be given to all members before shooting resumes. Two key issues to be monitored will be limits on the number of persons allowed on a range at a time and restrictions on travel.
