17.01.2022 As a result of our communications with State and Federal Government Departments it appears that the Queensland Government is looking to take a more ‘common sense’ approach on the restrictions to the sale of ammunition and firearm components. The Queensland Premier has indicated that some exemptions for Primary Producers will likely be introduced. SSAA (Qld.) Inc. will continue to update its Members on this issue as more information becomes available.

16.01.2022 Are you in and around the Townsville area and looking for something to do on Sunday 27th of October? How about head out to the SSAA Townsville Branch Inc. Range and 'Shoot for a Cause'. All proceeds go back to the local community.

14.01.2022 SSAA (Qld.) Inc. will continue to negotiate to widen the exemptions list to include all shooters to be able to purchase ammunition, firearms, components and accessories. This is important to allow licensed shooters to legally hunt where permission has been granted. https://www.health.qld.gov.au//non-essential-business,-act

11.01.2022 SSAA Queensland are pleased to see the Queensland Government have listened to the voices of our State and passed further exemptions with regards to the sale and supply of firearms and ammunition to those with OC and RE conditions on their Firearms Licenses. Also, great news to come out of Direction No. 5 is the disposal of firearms to those individuals that have Permit to Acquire issued prior to 28 March 2020. Although, we still have a way to go, this is a massive step fo...rward for all Queenslander’s. SSAA Queensland has been fighting very hard to ensure these common sense policies are put in place. Multiple organisations have contributed to this result and a strong stance by the Katter Party has resulted in a far better outcome for Sporting Shooters, Hunters, Primary Producers and public safety. SSAA Queensland will continue the fight. https://www.health.qld.gov.au//non-essential-business-clos

05.01.2022 Please find below important information just received from Weapons Licensing Queensland in relation to the issuing of Permit to Acquires during COVID-19. Good Afternoon, As you are aware, the Queensland Chief Health Officer (CHO) has issued a non-essential business, activity and undertaking Closure Direction, which has determined licensed armourers and licensed dealers, as defined under the Weapons Act 1990, to be a non-essential business. For more information please visit:... https://www.health.qld.gov.au//cho-public-health-direction Weapons Licensing is continuing to process all applications that have been received and those that will be received into the future. The Permit to Acquire (PTA) will continue to be issued for 6 months in accordance with Section 45 of the Weapons Act 1990. Licence holders applying for PTAs should review their licence conditions to ensure they meet the series of exceptions listed in the direction prior to applying for a PTA. Whilst the CHO direction will not be an element of the application process, some licence holders not eligible to purchase firearms under the closure direction may find the PTA expiring should the health emergency declaration continue over the next 6 months and beyond. PTA applications are being processed in order of receipt, with the majority of applications being processed within 21 days. Weapons Licensing does not possess any authority to over-ride or amend a direction that has been issued by the Public Health Act or the Chief Health Officer. Due to the complex and evolving nature of the situation, we will endeavour to update our website with any changes to assist in keeping you informed. It is also recommended you monitor the Queensland Health site for any future amendments or revocations of directions. Take care and stay safe. D W BUST INSPECTOR WEAPONS LICENSING

01.01.2022 Suggestions by our Members that SSAA (Qld.) Inc. is not acting pro-actively to support our wonderful sport during the current health crisis is absolutely incorrect. SSAA (Qld.) Inc. does not encourage members to fuel speculation or incorrect information which could harm our sport. SSAA (Qld.) Inc. asks for all members to follow the Government Public Health regulations and requirements.... The current worldwide COVID-19 pandemic is a health crisis that SSAA (Qld.) Inc. takes extremely seriously for the health and wellbeing for all our members and the communities at large. This is the most serious health event Australia has faced in generations to have had a Public Health Act enacted. SSAA (Qld.) SSAA (Qld.) Inc. is currently in consultation with State and Federal Governments, Qld Police Service, Qld Weapons Licensing Branch and the National Firearms Dealers Association. SSAA (Qld.)
