25.01.2022 SURPRISE! We’re having a third guest speaker for our Sunday Facebook Live: introducing Yom Maker! Yom is a 20-year-old South Sudanese Australian who came to Australia at the age of four. Yom is an active community member providing mentorship support to young people aged between 10 to 25 from the South Sudanese/African background. She is currently in her second year studying a Bachelor of Nursing at Australia Catholic University, and has worked in the age care sector for over... two years. This week we’re talking about drugs and alcohol, and their effect on the community. This is a big topic to tackle, and we’re glad to be joined by Yom, Deng and Anyaak, who are all doing amazing work in this area. Tune in 7pm Sunday on Facebook Live to listen in!

24.01.2022 Welcoming this week’s guest speaker, Malaan Ajang! Malaan is an Australian based South Sudanese model signed with The Talent Buro in Melbourne. Malaan was discovered at age 17 in her final year of high school, and debuted her first ever runway at New Zealand fashion week in 2010. She immediately gained international attention, and was signed by one of the top modelling agencies in the world - Ford models, New York in 2011. Malaan has walked in multiple runways around the w...orld including New Zealand, New York, Jakarta, Johannesburg, Melbourne and Sydney. She is well known for her distinctive eyes, full lips and radiant smile. Malaan leads an active lifestyle and is very passionate about health and fitness. She has alway been an active member of the community and has been heavily involved in community development projects over the years. She is a member of SAYAG (Sudanese Australian Youth Action Group) and has worked at Blacktown Youth Services as a Youth Program developer. She hopes to inspire young people to follow their dreams. 23.01.2022 This week, on our weekly Facebook Live, we will be discussing the ins and outs of working in the Department of Justice and Education. Our first guest speaker is Menasik Dewanyang! Menasik is a Transitions Advocate at Parkville College, within the Department of Education. Her role involves supporting young people as they transition between Parkville College and their local high school, flexible learning options, vocational training and employment opportunities. She also pro...vides support to young people who may be at risk of getting in contact with the social justice centre, and helps them find the right path. Menasik studied a Bachelor of Health Science in Biomedicine before moving into the Master of Teaching to pursue possibilities within the Education sector. Tune in 7pm Sunday to hear from Menasik!

George is a Student Support Worker/ Career Counsellor and Transitions Advocate at Parkville College, within the Department of Education. His role involves supporting young people to better engage with and understand their goals, and subsequently design better programs that resonate more with each of them. He also offers them vocational training, employment opportunities and prepares these youn...g people for life outside of their care. George studied a Bachelor of Youth Work, and worked in Sports and Recreation for two years before pursuing a career with the Department of Education. 20.01.2022 Welcoming our second guest speaker for tomorrow night’s Facebook Live, Robiel Abraham! Robiel was born in Khartoum, Sudan in 2000 to Ethiopian parents. He and his family moved to Queensland, Australia in 2004, and later moved to South Australia before settling in Victoria in 2011. Robiel is currently in his third year studying a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Neuroscience. He is passionate about research and medicine. His short-term goal is to do research into Neuroscie...nce and Neurology but his long-term goal is to practice medicine as a general practitioner (GP). Beside career life, Robiel is an active contributor to his community. He strives to ‘pay it forward’ and tutors students around the Melton region. He is also one of the leaders of the African Youth Initiative, a program which aims to inspire, help and mentor young Africans to achieve their goals and help their community. 11.01.2022 Joining Deng in this week’s Facebook Live is Anyaak Abiel. Anyaak is of South Sudanese heritage and is passionate about social justice and community empowerment. He is currently working as Drug and Alcohol Community Engagement and Project Officer for the Centre for Ethnicity and Heath (CEH). He’s been involved in a number of community organisations which work with CALD communities including 4 years of youth work at Drummond Street Service’s Drum Youth Services program. He...re, he ran sport and recreation programs with young African Australians living in inner-city Melbourne, and was involved with individual support work and case management with the young people and their families. Anyaak loves creativity, philosophy and working with young people. Anyaak holds a Certificate III in Community Services Work, Certificate IV, Diploma and Advance Diploma of Justice and is currently a second year student studying a Bachelor of Criminology, majoring in Psychology. Chol is a second-year undergraduate studentof Forensic Science at Deakin University with a concentration on Forensic Biology. As a teen, Chol left school and joined the Defence Force at the age of 17, looking to develop self-discipline to keep him out of trouble, and also tobe able to provide for his family back home.... After years of serving in the Defence Force, in November2018Chol decided it was time to change his profession and pursue his childhood dream of solving crimes, which led to him undertaking theBachelor of Forensic Science. In his spare time, Chol is an active member at hislocal church as a youth leader and a volunteer for the 404 Squadron Australian Air Force Cadets. He is still employed in the Defence Force, but has reduced his hours of work to focus on his studies. Join us this Sunday at 7pm to hear from Chol!
08.01.2022 Welcoming our guest speaker for this week, musician Malesh P, AKA Black Boy P Malesh migrated to Australia in 2003, and began writing music at the age of 12. He has since been a part of the Melbourne hip hop scene for over a decade. In 2008, Malesh co-founded the South Sudanese Hip Hop group A-MC’s (African Mic Controllers), and released a number of tracks and videos, as well as performing in countless shows statewide. In 2012, he branched out as a solo artist, and in 2...013 released his first solo project, ‘Third World Muzik’, which explores his journey transitioning from Africa to Australia. In 2015 he released ‘Dreamer | Believer’, and in 2019 released an EP with FLEXX entitled ‘Your Mother’s Favourite Nephews’. Both albums are available on streaming services. Malesh’s music focuses on expressing feelings, embracing diversity, and sparking social awareness. He is proud of living with two cultures, and hopes to inspire others to do the same. In 2016, he moved to Melbourne to pursue a Masters degree, and has since gained over five years of industry experience across a vast range of projects. Today, he is an expert in power systems engineering, renewable energy design, electrical building services engineering, energy efficiency, and sustainable en...gineering. He is currently pursuing a second Masters Degree in Project Management, and aims to eventually manage larger Renewable Energy projects and portfolios, both in Australia and internationally.
