22.01.2022 TOOT TOOT is rain a comin' ? If you haven't been to Wycheproof, then put it on your 'Must-do-list'. It is one of the few towns that has a railway line right... through the centre of the main street. Although, locals are used to seeing the trains travelling down the track, it still brings much excitement to hear the tooting, especially when you hear it echo. According to (almost) Wyche Folklore, when you hear a train echo it means there will be rain. Wyche local, Jackie Noonan was out running earlier this week, when she heard the echo of the Southern Shorthaul Railroad, she took this photo and yep, there was light sprinkle of rain the next day. 21.01.2022 From everyone at SSR, we would like to wish you all a happy and safe Easter!

19.01.2022 It was all aboard for Dylan's Wish! Eight-year-old Dylan is a train enthusiast, especially when it comes to diesel and freight trains, and more than anything... he loves watching trains. For his wish, he wanted to see big trains, where they sleep and have an up-close experience. He is partially deaf, so a big part of why he loves trains so much is because he can feel the vibrations, so the closer, the better! Last September our friends at Southern Shorthaul Railroad in Bendigo helped us bring Dylan's wish to life. Dylan got to spend the day with the team and had a rail-y good time behind the scenes. He loved seeing how it all worked and riding upfront of the train with his sister tooting the horn. By the end of the day, he was pretty much a qualified train driver (in our eyes at least) Dylan still loves looking at pictures and videos from the day so our awesome volunteers made a photo book and DVD for Dylan so that he could keep reliving his special day again and again! What a choo-riffic wish!

16.01.2022 A sneak peek of CLF1 undergoing respray at SRHC. The arrangement here is that we are painting CLF1 for SSR as part of the deal that saw SSR provide us a reconditioned turbo charger for C501.

11.01.2022 Everyone at SSR would like to wish Bernie the best for a safe and happy retirement. We’re near certain he’ll still be line side with a camera from time to time. Here is a post from Motive Power Photography showing Bernie’s last run, a trip through NSW, VIC and SA on the AK cars, appropriately on Streamliner GM27

09.01.2022 We've recently added some very important recognitions to the sides of a couple of our locomotives! Milton Bromwich has been recognised on loco CLF1 for his 50 years of service to the rail industry, staring back in 1970 with the NSWGR, and most recently, helping to form SSR in 2003. He has spent countless hours building SSR up to what it is now, and has always done everything to the highest standard. Wayne Fisher, with 55 years of service has had loco RL301 named after him, r...ecognising his outstanding career which saw him become a trainer and more importantly a mentor to countless young trainee's as they learnt the ropes. What memories and stories do you have of Milton or Fishy? Post them below in the comments and keep an eye out for CLF1 and RL301.
