25.01.2022 Our pools are designed to allow all children to explore our pool at their own pace and depth. With 8 different levels there is a level to suit your child. We wo...rk with all children as individuals and at their pace. We help them learn new skills and improve existing skills, knowing their teachers are there to keep them safe with lots of encouragement along the way. 24.01.2022 Eyes in floating back to the steps is a great way to get balance in the water. Putting out their hands and reaching for the steps and pulling themselves out of ...the water gives them confidence that they can do it. Your children get very excited and so do their teachers when they do this for the first time. We continually build on your childrens confidence each week. Please remember children learn at their own pace and in their own time and we work with each child as an individual. If you have any questions about your lessons please call the office and they will be happy go through what your child is up to in their lessons. See more

24.01.2022 Repost LESSONS SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.It is with a very heavy heart I need to inform all our loyal customers that as from midnight on the 23rd of March ...2020 all lessons at all Shapland Swim Schools will be suspended until further notice. The decision was not taken lightly and even though we would have loved to continue to supply some normality to the lives of the children attending our fifteen swim schools, we felt staying open would be socially irresponsible in these extraordinary times.Over the next few days, possibly up to a week, we will be sending out newsletters so please check your email for those newsletters from your swim school in relation to any credits you may have with us and also for updates from time to time on when we are going to resume lessons.Chris Shapland. 22.01.2022 We love seeing your children having fun in their swimming lessons. What do your children love doing the most in lessons?

22.01.2022 When your child has their first or even second lesson, they may just walk along the edge in the shallow end or hold their teachers hand while walking, getting t...heir balance in the water. We won't rush this first learning experience as this may be your child's first time in the pool with water up to their shoulders and can be very daunting. Remember on land they have gravity holding them down yet in the water they become buoyant and this can be a very new and scary experience for some children. . . . . . . . . #shaplandswimschool #shaplandswimschools #swimminglessonsarepayingoff #iloveswimminglessons #drowningispreventable See more

20.01.2022 Is your child having difficulty mastering a stroke? Learning to swim is not easy for many children and they can become disheartened that they have been tying so... hard and just not getting it right. Please dont let them give up. We only have 3 students in a class so we can work with them as an individual. As teachers we are always encouraging and helping them learn at their own pace. With lots of praise and encouragement they will get through this hurdle in their swimming and learn to love it again. https://www.shapland.com.au//why-does-my-child-not-appear- See more

19.01.2022 When a child starts swimming lessons as a baby, in regular weekly lessons, they develop basic skills, help prevent water fears and provide more movement opportu...nities in the water for your baby than what they can get on land. If your child starts swimming lessons as a baby it will help them to be able to trust the water will hold them up and put their face in the water of their own choice and start to move through the water. If they start swimming lessons at a later age it can take a while for your child to get their balance and put their eyes in the water of their own accord. Some can take a long time as they can be very afraid of the water. Chris has a great blog on what to do before you start swimming lessons. https://www.shapland.com.au/swimmi/home-development-program See more

19.01.2022 Swimming lessons open holiday opportunities for you and your children, you can enjoy holidays at the beach or playing in the resort pool. Adult supervision is a must and it is a great time to be in the water with your children having fun.

19.01.2022 Once young children have the basic swimming skills, it takes a while for them to mature and become stronger, please dont give up during this time. Give your ch...ildren lots of encouragement and the more their coordination and skills increase they will master the swimming stroke they are working on. Please remember we teach each child to their individual skill level. If you have a question about your childs progress please ring the office of the Shapland Swim School you attend and they can help you further. www.shapland.com.au/locations See more

19.01.2022 What are make-up classes and how are Shaplands different? With our online portal, you can take your child/children out of their class for any reason anytime bef...ore 8am on the day of their lesson. You have 6 months to use the classes and they can be refreshed online by booking a class for the next day only and cancelling it straight away. This way as long as you are enrolled in weekly lessons you can use our system to never miss a class. Our make-up classes are also per family so it does not matter who was away you choose which of your children, that are enrolled in the swim school, to use the make-up class. Make-ups are a great way to try out all of our wonderful teachers, that way if you need to change days or times and your current teacher is not available your children settle quickly with the change. 18.01.2022 After a break from swimming, children who are still in the beginning stages of learning to swim often experience a loss of confidence that the water will always... hold them up. Chris has written a great blog for us with how to handle this situation. https://www.shapland.com.au//forgetting-how-to-swim-after- See more

18.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day to all our beautiful Mums out there. Cant wait till we are all back in the pool.

17.01.2022 I love watching our teachers, they bring joy to the pool. Bringing out a smile in a scared child or giving them the confidence to try and helping them to learn to love the water. Remember swimming is a skill for life. Call us now to book www.shapland.com.au/locations

17.01.2022 Did you know, cold weather by itself does not cause the common cold. Being exposed to people suffering from the common cold can cause us to become sick. But s...imply being exposed to cooler air temperatures does not. For swimmers, this should be taken a step further: Being wet, in colder weather, doesnt cause someone to become infected with the common cold virus. Coming to swimming lessons during the colder months will not make them sick and our pools are nice and warm all year around. With our wonderful make-up system for a missed class we ask that customers stay home if they or their children are sick. 16.01.2022 Just a little glimpse into our breath control work with our babies! All three of these bubbas have progressed to associating hearing the word under with seein...g the water coming toward them. From here they take a breath and hold it as they enter the water and swim out. It is truly incredible how quickly they learn and what they can understand from a young age

16.01.2022 Always encourage children to reach out for the step with their hands, not put their feet down first as their feet can slip off the step. ... Grabbing the step first with their hands, then putting their feet down is more stable and will keep them safer in the water. . . . . . . . #shaplandswimschool #shaplandswimschools #kidswim #activekids #activekidsarehappykids See more

15.01.2022 The main difference between why Queensland Shapland Swim Schools are able to stay open for lessons and large centers and leisure centers are being closed, is ou...r small class sizes. Please remember that larger pools have been closed not because their pool is not safe it is because of the large numbers of people at the centers at the same time. We do not have that at Shaplands. Please be assured we are doing everything in our power to keep customers and staff safe at this time. We ask that only one adult comes to lessons to reduce the number of people in the swim school at anyone time. Thank you for continuing to support us through this time. See more

13.01.2022 When children are on their swimming journey and are starting drills like kicking on their side, they quite often look to the front or roll over on their back in...stead of the looking to the side of pool. We use this drill to get children use to being on their side and then starting the body rotation for bubbles and breathing. We work with them to get them comfortable kicking on their side before starting crawlstroke (freestyle). Some children give up at this stage as they learn to master this new skill. Please give lots of encouragement and ring the office if you have any questions. See more

12.01.2022 Did you know that it takes till a child is about 7-8 years old before they develop a mature adult gait (that is a lot of practise!), now think of your children ...learning to swim. Swimming is long term and as your children progress it can be repetitive to learn to swim properly. Please dont give up if your children dont want to come to lessons, give your swim school a call as they have many tricks of the trade to help you children get over this hurdle. See more

11.01.2022 Why do we spend time walking in the water? Walking gives your children balance in the water. It does not matter what age they are walking is an important part o...f learning to trust the water. Please remember that walking on land is very different to walking in the water, on land you have gravity holding you down onto the ground, the water makes you buoyant and for non swimmers this can be very scary at first. Please read Chriss post on floating and balance for more information. https://www.shapland.com.au/b/20190906/floating-and-balance See more

11.01.2022 We hope you all have a wonderful holidays, please remember that no one is drown proof it can happen at any age. 10.01.2022 Please remember that the learn to swim process is a long process, and the more stops and starts out of the water will slow your childs progress. Learning each ...skill takes time, trying to rush through the progression will only hinder your childs progress and they will need to go back and learn a missed skill, like a floating or a 6 beat kick even holding the water with their hands and feet correctly. Please dont ask the teachers to do more, they know where your child is up to and what they need to work on to progress to the next skill. https://www.shapland.com.au//2011/moving-through-the-water See more

10.01.2022 Children develop many skills when learning to swim Co-Ordination is one those skills that helps them grow and succeed in every aspect of their life.

10.01.2022 Look mum I swam to the step by myself on the noodle!. All children love you watching their classes. Your children are constantly looking up to see if you are watching them so you can give them a thumbs up or a clap.

10.01.2022 Floating is an important skill children start to learn early in their lessons. We make it fun and not forced.

09.01.2022 Why should children learn to swim? Swimming lessons help your children with confidence which helps with self-esteem even outside of the pool. Swimming is a gre...at way to exercise all year around, helps with hand eye coordination and muscle tone, water safety & social skills. It is a sport that could them save a life one day. But please remember adult supervision no matter what the age, and have fun! See more

08.01.2022 We hope everyone had a wonderful Fathers Day

07.01.2022 Look at the duck I found. Watch it swim with me.

06.01.2022 Holding onto the side of the pool and walking around the edge when they first get in the pool gives them confidence to slowly let go and walk in the water unaid...ed or with a board. We have a lot of questions in regards to children never having been in the water before and they are scared to come to swimming as they dont understand or trust the water. Our pool is designed for beginners to stroke correction. If a child is scared they will have a balance or breath control problem. We will work with them to give them confidence and start to love the water. Give your swim schools office a call and we will explain this further if you have any questions. www.shapland.com.au/locations See more

06.01.2022 Swimming lessons start with balance at any age, walking and feeling how the water holds them up, learning to trust the water, then moving onto breath control. ...These are the two first and most important steps in swimming. These steps can not be rushed or forced or the child or adult experiencing the pool for the first time with get a fear of the water. Let your children play and walk in different depths, gaining confidence as they go. At Shaplands we have 8 different levels in our pool to find the perfect level for your child to start their swimming journey from. See more

05.01.2022 If your child falls in the pool do they know how to get back to the side and get out of the pool? Do they wear googles at home all the time? If your child falls... in the pool without goggles they can panic if they have never had time without them. When you are at swimming lessons and in a pool at home please make sure they have no goggle time so they do not get addicted to goggles, this time without goggles could save their life one day. call us now to book in lessons, www.shapland.com.au/locations See more

04.01.2022 Please remember that a child who learns to swim at a young age develops a lifelong skill that can save their life, and give them a skill that can keep them fit ...not matter their age. Even at 73 Chris Shapland is still swimming almost daily, I think if he could he would swim daily even when the pool is far too cold for most of us!
