22.01.2022 SSSI is continuing its industry-leading Mentoring Program in 2020 - entirely online! With many disruptions to the ways in which we all live and work, sharing our knowledge and experiences about our profession across generations is more important now than ever. The program will run from June to November, with where mentors and mentees meet to discuss given topics on a fortnightly basis, exploring a range of facets from career goal setting, leadership and emotional intelligence..., networking, and more. Mentors and mentees can be expected to make approximately 8 hr time commitment over the length of the program for meetings and preparation for meetings. The program runs in two streams: (a) undergraduate, for current students or recent graduates, and (b) graduate, for young professionals who are in the workforce and looking to step up their careers. We are seeking mentors for both of these streams urgently, as we have had a significant interest from mentees from around the country and would love to find ways to support them. To submit an expression of interest, simply complete the short form available at https://forms.gle/GSRfz6NKtJZmvzGH6

09.01.2022 SSSI Webinar: Reporting and Measuring Bushfire Mitigation Work, a Software Pilot Eugene Lamnek, GeoIT Solutions Tuesday 28 April 2020, 12.00pm ACST REGISTER NOW @ https://sssi.org.au//webinar-reporting-and-measuring-bushf ... Eugene Lamnek created GeoIT Solutions in 2002, and has been developing ArcGIS customizations, add-ins and applications ever since. In this time Eugene has developed numerous bushfire applications for the CFS and the CFA as well as water and wastewater modelling software, asset management applications and interfaces, and open source applications for numerous clients including SA Water, Santos and DEW. The Treatment Reporting System (TRS) currently in pilot phase, will allow organisations to store and manage their bushfire mitigation tasks, as well as measuring these tasks against the requirements of the Bushfire Management Area Plans (BMAPs). The system will allow users to store bushfire mitigation tasks, their spatial extent, values of work, time of work and completion status. Tasks are mapped and measured against required actions, defined by within the CFS BMAPs. The TRS will provide an effective mechanism for reporting the adequacy of on ground mitigation work (potentially at a State-wide level) by measuring mitigation work against well-defined mitigation targets. Users of the system will include local government, state government, private organisations and potentially even individual landholders.
