15.01.2022 Social Justice at St Francis Xavier Our final casual day this year will be held on Friday 27th November. All funds from this day will be donated to the St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies) Christmas Appeal. Vinnies prefers we donate money, rather than toys or Christmas foods, as they can help more people in need with these funds. The St Vincent de Paul Society uses the money you donate to assist people in crisis with:... * food hampers * toiletries * utility bills * rent Vinnies, an organisation who lives out the Catholic Church’s social justice mission, is mainly a volunteer group who wish to put Catholic faith into action. They take their inspiration from a story told by Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew 25: 35-36 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ Many people in our Ballarat community are doing it really tough this year. 04.01.2022 Year 6 Remote Learning Young Archies During Remote Learning one of the Year 6 optional Art tasks was to draw a portrait of a person who inspires them for a Young Archies competition. Our artists created some wonderful portraits of a great range of inspirational people. The SFX staff was asked to choose their favourite portrait and votes were tallied. The following children received an Honourable Mention for their amazing portraits: Isabella Brown-Kenyon, Eliza Dodd, Tanna...h Castles, Bailey Moore, Sienna Driscoll, Olivia Buckland, Chloe Martin, Archie Staley, Ned Cummins and Finn Patterson. Congratulations to the following children for their prize winning portraits: 1st Prize - Abby Kinnersly for her portrait of Frida Kahlo "I chose this person because she is inspiring because she didn’t listen to criticism and she did her own thing." 2nd Prize - Lily Matthews for her portrait of her Grandpa Terry "I chose this person because he had no legs but he never let that stop him, he was always determined to get up and get going with life. He also suffered from diabetes but then in 2018 he passed away of a heart attack." 3rd Prize - Lachlan Reus for his portrait of Stan Lee "I chose this person because Stan Lee inspired me to make comic books at home and he has entertained everyone with his comic and movie company MARVEL!
