25.01.2022 We have recently had two casual staff members join our team! Jason is a first year vet student and Micaela is looking to transfer into the course at the end of the year. Working as a nurse while studying provides great practical hands on experience; helping to set them up for working with clients and patients as a graduated vet. It can be a steep learning curve so we thank you for your patience while they are learning the ropes.

25.01.2022 Both of our phone lines are back up and running as normal 9983 9494

24.01.2022 TICK SEASON HAS STARTED! Unfortunately St Ives and the surrounding suburbs is a hub for paralysis ticks so make sure you are checking your furry friends every day for ticks and looking out for the signs of tick poisoning. Paralysis ticks have a grey body with brown legs grouped forward towards their heads. Weak legs, vomiting, laboured breathing, change of bark or meow, are some of the symptoms of tick paralysis. If your pet is showing signs of these symptoms you should seek ...veterinary assistance, call us at St Ives Veterinary Surgery on 9983 9494 or for afterhours help contact NEVS on 9452 2933. In the last two months we have already treated 14 tick cases and sadly seen 2 deaths. There are many products you can use to help prevent tick poisoning, at St Ives Veterinary Surgery we have flea and tick preventative products for both your dogs and cats. There is also a NEW easier spot on preventative for cats! So come into our clinic today and ask our friendly staff for advice!

24.01.2022 UPDATE: Skye has been re-homed Skye is looking for her furever home She is a lovely 9yo Abyssinian, mostly indoors and very affectionate. She is from a single pet household, so she would fit in well as the only pet.... Please get in touch with the clinic if you are interested or would like to know more. Please call 9983 9494

23.01.2022 UPDATE: Our phone lines are now working as normal: 9983 9494 We have been experiencing an issue with our second phone line. We are working with our service provider to have this issue rectified as soon as possible. St Ives Vet is still open as per our regular hours and we do have one phone line working at this stage. Please keep trying if you are unable to get through on the first call.... We apologise for any inconvenience. 9983 9494

22.01.2022 COVID-19 and pets Many of you may be wondering, can the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19 be transmitted between us and our pets? The following information has been sourced from the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) and the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA).... Human to animal transmission to date has been extremely rare with only 2, possibly 3, cases reported worldwide. Currently there is no evidence to indicate that pets can infect humans or other animals, or that they play any direct role in the spread of this disease. The main method of transmission of COVID-19 is human to human. There have been no reports of the virus in domestic animals or wildlife in Australia. As always, please practice good hygiene whilst interacting with your pets. Pet owners who may be infected with the virus are advised to keep their pets with them at home, but minimise close contact and handling as a precautionary measure. We will continue to keep you updated with any changes regarding COVID-19 and pets as any new information becomes available.

21.01.2022 COVID-19: Further update Thank you for your continued patience and understanding. Our priority during these times is to be available to provide ongoing care to you and your pets. ... A few additional changes have been implemented to minimise the ongoing health risk to our staff, our clients and the wider community. A clear screen has been put up at our reception desk to reduce direct contact between staff and clients. We are continuing to limit the number of people in our waiting area and restricting our consulting rooms to one person and one pet at a time. Yellow tape has been placed on the floor of the consulting and waiting rooms to mark out the appropriate distance to keep within the room. In addition to this, our staff will now be operating in 2 separate teams working on different days during the week. This means that if one staff member were to contract COVID-19 and consequently the entire team required to be in isolation, the other team can continue to work and provide care for our patients. This change will mean however that you may not always be able to see your preferred vet. We are still open during our regular hours and will keep you updated should any changes to our hours or services occur. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping our staff members remain healthy so we can continue to look after you and your much loved pets.

15.01.2022 What happens when this all ends? The COVID-19 lockdown has brought a considerable upheaval in routine for most companion animals. With the majority of pet own...ers working from home, there is now constant companionship - extra love, attention and enrichment, focus on good nutrition, daily exercise, and early detection of health problems. Whilst all this is paramount for optimum health - too much of a good thing can lead to extreme separation anxiety and distress once life returns to normal. Aside from being physiologically damaging, self-injury from associated behaviours - chewing/digging/attempts to escape may also occur. Pets thrive on consistency and predictability, as we all do, so acclimatising them prior to restrictions being eased is essential for their well-being. This handy infographic put together by accredited Animal Behaviourists provides tips for making this transition out of lockdown as smooth as possible for our furry family members.

13.01.2022 **Covid-19 Update** As the COVID situation on the Northern Beaches unfolds, we have had to make the difficult, but necessary decision to return to contactless c...onsultations. When you arrive at NEVS please call 9452 2933 from your car and one of our team will assist you. When the vet is ready for your consultation one of our team will collect your pet from the car park. The vet will perform a consultation with you over the phone. If you are worried your pet is in a critical condition, please alert our team over the phone. We will come out immediately to admit your pet into the hospital. Please rest assured that through all of this, your pet’s care and comfort is of the highest priority. They will still receive the same level of professional attention and treatment they need to get them back on the road to health (with plenty of cuddles and TLC along the way!).
