10.01.2022 We have had an exciting couple of days in KG as the children worked through a Science design and build activity. Our Science topic is 'Materials- Where from and what for'. The children have been working out that objects are made of different materials that each have properties that can be observed. They have described an item in a feely bag, using terms like smooth, hard, bumpy, squishy, soft, etc. But the last two days the children were given two challenges: 1. Design and ma...ke a bridge that would support a toy car. 2. Make the longest and strongest bridge in the class. The children could use any materials we had in the classroom and they could work with a partner or by themselves. The classroom looked like a bomb had gone off, but boy did everyone have a great time! I think that we have a few budding engineers in our midst. There was a lot of problem solving and teamwork happening as well as some negotiations over equipment. We had two Year 5 boys visiting us today and they eagerly joined in, building what they thought was the winning design, however Samantha and Mia had something to say about that! They built both the longest bridge and the strongest bridge, with Samanthat even standing on their bridge without it collapsing! I have attached some photos from the day but unfortunately some children demolished their bridge before I could get a photo. #learnlaughandhavefunatSJM

Skellatar Stock Route This afternoon highway patrol were out and about and a number of warnings were given to people for doing U turns on double lines. We encourage you to please come up the Stock Route rather than doing a U Turn. We are doing this to ensure that the raod is safe for all users, not just the SJM community. Aaron
