25.01.2022 Crew on duty at the bairnsdale gocart track and the last duty for 119 next week we will have a brand new vehicle

24.01.2022 The Princes Highway is open between Lakes Entrance and Bairnsdale. The highway is closed from Lakes Entrance to Genoa. For people who are stuck in Orbost, Marlo... and Nowa Nowa and want to head west, the Princes Highway will open from 10am -12 midday tomorrow (Jan 1) for those who want to travel through to Lakes Entrance and beyond. Incident controller Ben Rankin says there were a large number of visitors to Gippsland in the communities or Marlo and Orbost in particular, who are putting pressure on supplies in town. The short opening will give people a chance to leave the area. : Lea Worseldine, Mount Taylor

23.01.2022 The crew is here on night shift at the bairnsdale relief centre it looks like we will be here for the long run . Stay safe everyone

22.01.2022 Congratulations to all but especially our own David McGrath!

20.01.2022 1700 THURS 2 JAN- East Gippsland area bushfires update Be prepared and take action There are extremely serious and dangerous fires across East Gippsland - and c...hances of more starting If you do not need to be here - get out before this weekend. Please leave today, or at the latest tomorrow morning. If you are in remote locations, you need to move out to larger towns. If you do not do this, we cannot guarantee your safety. Challenging weather is predicted tomorrow and Saturday, Conditions are expected to be worse than last Monday, it is expected to be extremely hot and windy Fires again have the potential to impact on communities - the risk is very real Communities that have been impacted may be impacted again We cannot guarantee we will have fire trucks at every location due to the scale of the fire area. Phone reception, power and water supply cannot be guaranteed if impacted Please ensure you have batteries for torches and radios (to tune into your local emergency broadcaster). There are new fire starts from lightning overnight to the south of Dinner Plain and Mt Hotham. These fires will run to the south east, putting pressure on the Swifts Creek area and surrounds. The Princes Highway is open both ways between Bairnsdale and Orbost We currently have 24 isolated communities and are attempting to get into these communities as soon as we can to provide essential supplies (including satellite phones), however the current smoke is hindering conditions to enable aircraft to fly. Much of East Gippsland has been significantly impacted by fires, with more than 800,000 hectares burnt. At the present time it is extremely difficult to access some areas using ground crews as there has been significant damage to road networks. Many roads are inaccessible. The sheer size and complexity of these fires along with a lack of power, lack of communications, limited road access and isolation in many areas is making it difficult to gain information on the specific impacts at a community level. Community Meetings: Bruthen- 6pm today (2nd January) Mechanics Hall Bruthen. Lakes Entrance 6:30pm today- Bellevue Hotel 201 Esplanade Lakes Entrance. Mount Taylor- 10am tomorrow (3rd January) at the Mount Taylor Fire Station. Orbost- 10:30am tomorrow, (3rd January) at Orbost Football Club, Lochiel Street Orbost. Mallacoota- 7pm regarding the evacuation in Mallacoota today (2nd January). The Australian defence force will re locate 800 people at 7am tomorrow morning via an Australian Defence Force boat and return for more people in coming days. 10.01.2022 EAST GIPPSLAND UPDATE 10.20AM Monday DECEMBER 30 2019 If you are in East Gippsland today, 30 December you need to check VicEmergency for warnings frequently. If... you are currently in an area that is under a warning you must follow the instructions in that warning. If you are in East Gippsland in an area that isn’t under a warning currently you need to move to built up areas, including Lakes Entrance, Bairnsdale, Omeo or Orbost. You must get to a built up area before 11am as the risk of fires moving increases after this time. Lakes Entrance, Bairnsdale, Omeo and Orbost are areas that have been identified as defendable by emergency services. When you arrive you should stay in the centre of town. Follow the instructions of firefighters and emergency services. Do not leave the area until you are told by emergency services that it is safe to do so.
