23.01.2022 We couldn't help but notice that Perth roads are getting busier again. Don't even get us started on trying to merge onto Shelley Bridge... We all have place...s to go, but sometimes we need some help from the WA community. It's important to give way to emergency service vehicles when our lights and sirens are on. Here are three easy ways you can help us get to where we need to go. See more

23.01.2022 Brad has been volunteering with Waroona for about 6 months now. He has completed his Emergency Medical Assistant training and is now on road. Brad has been helping out with vehicle maintenance, transfers for patients who need to go to Perth for appointments and emergency call outs. In his spare time (okay, paid employment) he works as a safety advisor, he has 3 daughters and has a passion for creating awareness surrounding mens mental health. ... Brad is always smiling, putting up his hand to help wherever he can and is making an excellent addition to our team Thanks for everything you do Brad

23.01.2022 He never fails to make us laugh, but yikes! This is how NOT to perform CPR.

22.01.2022 Today Our ambulance volunteers painted a blue tree in waroona The blue tree mission is to help spark difficult conversations and encourage people to speak up when battling mental health concerns we were proud to get involved and paint the tree for our local community we couldn’t have done it without the help of our wonderful Mitre 10 Waroona who donated all the paint Thankyou so much and a huge Thankyou to Mr Peter & Mrs Lyndie Ward for letting us paint your tree

21.01.2022 Jenny and I have returned from another VDO weekend away, exhausted and sore. What a weekend though! So many laughs were had and many memories made. New skills learnt and ready for a new year of training. Lots in store for Waroona vollies in 2020, oh next time you see us, ask us about the Danielle

21.01.2022 Merry Christmas from the vollies in Waroona

21.01.2022 Waroona sub center was busy packing up products to donate to the bush fire recovery efforts over east. We send our friends over there our love and support

20.01.2022 St John WA has now changed how we treat patients suffering from potential spinal injuries. Semi-rigid collars were traditionally applied if the patient was b...elieved to have been suffering from a cervical spinal injury, regardless of the severity level. This is no longer considered best practice and have since implemented a new assessment criteria. We encourage everyone to familiarise yourself with this update. Please share this amongst your friends and families. Thank you for helping us spread this message.

20.01.2022 No matter where you are, we're here for you... but it helps if we know exactly where you are first. If you call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance, the first qu...estion you are asked is "What is the address of the emergency?" In order for us to get help to you as quickly as possible, please ensure you are providing us with the correct address. Describing nearby landmarks with identifying features will help too. In the event that you don't know where you are, you can always use the First Responder app. Our app can geo-locate you and identify your latitude and longitude coordinates. You can even call Triple Zero through the app as well. Please note you will need access to 3G/4G to use this feature. Learn more about the First Responder app here: stjohnwa.com.au/online-resources/st-john-first-responder-app

18.01.2022 Merry Christmas everyone Just some of our vollies who I have photos of #ChristmasEve #Laugh

17.01.2022 Last night the Waroona VFES trained our members on the use of fire equipment in our Sub Centre including some real life experience in putting out small fires under the direct guidance of Bealsie and Patrick. We would like to thank them both for their time and knowledge and making our annual fire and emergency procedures night entertaining and interactive. Many laughs were had. We would also like to thank Harry Carna for the donation of the fire extinguishers for us to practice with Please note, we don't condone fires and this was a coordinated exercise with appropriate equipment at the standby.

14.01.2022 We love this ad from St John Ambulance in the UK, teaching parents how to help your child if they are choking. Choking is one of the leading causes of injury an...d death in children aged four and under, and is a hazard that can strike any child at any time. Make sure you know how to clear your child's airway, it could save their life. 13.01.2022 WA is in for a heat wave this weekend, and we have noticed that it is going to be a lot hotter than what we would usually expect this time of year. Most of us ...are used to hot temperatures in December, but there are others who may be more susceptible to heat related illnesses such as: the elderly, overseas travellers and children. To avoid heat stress, we recommend the following to help you keep cool in the coming days: Do not leave any persons or animals in a locked car Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol where possible Stay indoors and crank the air-con if you can Wear sunscreen Reduce physical activity For more tips to stay cool this summer visit HealthyWA's guide: http://ow.ly/HwAo50xoSDx

12.01.2022 Today is a day of remembrance and reflection. As we bow our heads in silence at 11am, we will pay tribute to the men and women who fell in service of their coun...try. In the four years of the First World War, more than 330,000 Australians had served and more than 60,000 of them died. They were fathers, brothers, sons, mothers and daughters; all working together to help protect our nation. We will remember them. Lest we forget.

11.01.2022 Very disappointing to see that the defib we donated to Waroona District High School has been stolen. If you have any information please contact the Waroona Police on the details below.

09.01.2022 Last night we had a lovely time enjoying Christmas dinner with past and present members of our Sub Centre and our wonderful partners who support us behind the scenes to help out our community. What a fantastic night! What is Christmas dinner without terrible cracker jokes and some games of charades? Thank you to The Waroona Hotel who hosted our event. Toni went above and beyond (as always) to make this night special. The food was devine and the room was beautifully decorated.

04.01.2022 At the beginning of every year we go through our vans and familarise ourselves with all of our equipment. Our volunteers are VERY competitive so we thought we would change it up a bit and set challenges for the 2 groups. One of the challenges - name something on or in the van that is hard to find and get the other group to find it. They came across things they didn't even know were there! It was fantastic and fun.... Next challenge was to have our EMT's mentor our EMA's by explaining how to use the equipment without doing it for them. #trainingnight #trainingcanbefun #stjohnwa #stjohn #stjohnwaroona

03.01.2022 Christmas Light tour with the Just Cruising car club. Look who we found on the way Merry Christmas

02.01.2022 There's no such thing as a "normal" day for the folks at St John WA. No two days are the same and it's the small things that can really make a difference. Today... is Thank a Paramedic Day, and we'd like to thank all of our amazing Paramedics and Ambulance Volunteers who change lives every single day. Do you have a Paramedic you'd like to thank? We apologise for the inconvenience and assure you we will continue to monitor the situation so we can resume training when safe for both our staff and participants. 01.01.2022 STOP! Before you keep scrolling, do you know anyone who still uses the Heimlich manoeuvre? Can you do us a favour and tell them not to use this technique anym...ore? Thanks so much. If you're wondering why, here's the reason: The Australian Resuscitation Council does not recommend abdominal thrusts as there is considerable evidence of harm caused by this procedure. Instead, perform five back blows followed by five chest thrusts. Ensure that you check to see if the obstruction has been dislodged after each back blow/chest thrust. Always call Triple Zero (000) in an emergency. If you need to refresh your first aid knowledge, check out our first aid training options here: stjohnwa.com.au/first-aid-training

01.01.2022 Do you live in Waroona and have some spare time? Do you like to help others?

01.01.2022 Accidents can happen at any time and sometimes the only person around to help is a child. We at St John believe that children should learn the basics of first a...id, because you never know when you might need their help in an emergency. Our puppeteer friends at Constable Care Child Safety Foundation have introduced Constable Care TV online, so students can learn about the importance of DRSABCD at home for free! You can check out their latest episode featuring Kura the Paramedic Bear here: https://bit.ly/2YWZVTN
