23.01.2022 Uniform Thanks A very big thanks to you, our St Joseph’s families. Since we mentioned that logo socks are not part of our uniform, the change across the school has been immediate. Santa Cruz socks have disappeared! We appreciate your support.

23.01.2022 There is growing awareness that 'challenging behaviour' in children and young people can be a sign of anxiety but what about kids on the other side of the scale... who are 'model students' - never get in trouble, always work hard, set high standards for themselves? Or maybe this resonates with you personally? High-functioning anxiety can be really difficult to wrap your head around - isn't anxiety supposed to prevent you from doing things?! How can an over-achiever have anxiety? I love this visual and accompanying blog post from Dominee at BlessingManifesting which speaks about what it is like to live with high-functioning anxiety. Read more (and check out her amazing work) at: https://www.blessingmanifesting.com/what-high-functioning-/

19.01.2022 Hands on learning in 3I Maths today. Students investigated Mass and their challenge was to estimate and prove who carried the heaviest and the lightest school bag to school today. Students worked in small groups to ‘heft’ each bag in their group, and organise them from heaviest to lightest. They then used a spring scale to prove the mass of each bag.

18.01.2022 Little People, Big Feelings | Free Live Webinar on Monday 7 September! What are we supposed to do when our child is having a tantrum? Losing the plot? Going off... their rocker? Most of our responses no matter how well-intended can make things worse. We tell them to stop it, calm down, cut it out and they don’t! They get worse! We send them to their room, take the iPad it all backfires. Dealing with little people’s big emotions (and challenging behaviours) in the middle of an outburst is tough! The tricky thing is that much of our children’s challenging behaviour (and our feeling that they are not resilient) has less to do with the behaviour we’re seeing, and more to do with the big emotions they’re feeling that we’re not quite sure what to do with. Little People, Big Feelings is Dr Justin Coulson’s powerful guide to teaching children to understand and regulate their emotional world. Once they develop competence with this critical life skill, emotionally intelligent children will feel more confident, perform better at school, have healthier relationships with others, and even be physically healthier. This presentation equips parents with a five-step emotion coaching process that brings together the very best in emotional intelligence research from Dr John Gottman, the Yale Centre for Emotional Intelligence, and others to build children’s resilience, increase wellbeing for the whole family, and develop healthier humans. Tune in online from 8pm- 9pm this Monday via https://www.facebook.com/events/315567756260560
