22.01.2022 Baptism of the Lord Today (10 January) we celebrate the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, whereby the Catholic Church commemorates the baptism of Jesus in the J...ordan River by John the Baptist. You're invited to reflect on today's Gospel reading: In the course of his preaching John the Baptist said: ‘Someone is following me, someone who is more powerful than I am, and I am not fit to kneel down and undo the strap of his sandals. I have baptised you with water, but he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit.’ It was at this time that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptised in the Jordan by John. No sooner had he come up out of the water than he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit, like a dove, descending on him. And a voice came from heaven, ‘You are my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on you.’ (Mark 1:7-11) #BaptismOfTheLord #Baptism #MaryMacKillop #SaintMaryMacKillop #StMaryOfTheCrossMacKillop (Gospel text from https://universalis.com/20210110/mass.htm / Stained glass located in the Mary MacKillop Memorial Chapel, North Sydney NSW)

22.01.2022 Earlier last month, Pope Francis announced that this year will be the Year of St Joseph. Pope Francis describes Saint Joseph as a beloved, tender, loving, obed...ient and accepting father; a father who is creatively courageous and hard-working. Joseph’s spiritual path is not one that explains, but accepts. He is able to accept life as it is, with all its contradictions, frustrations and disappointments. Joseph did not look for shortcuts but confronted reality with open eyes and accepted personal responsibility for it. For this reason, he encourages us to accept and welcome others as they are, without exception, and to show special concern for the weak. 09.01.2022 Today is World Day of the Poor. This year's theme is Stretch forth your hand to the poor (Sir 7:32)" 'Prayer to God and solidarity with the poor and suffering... are inseparable. In order to perform an act of worship acceptable to the Lord, we have to recognize that each person, even the poorest and most contemptible, is made in the image of God ... Time devoted to prayer can never become an alibi for neglecting our neighbour in need. Read Pope Francis's complete message here: http://www.vatican.va//papa-francesco_20200613_messaggio-i

09.01.2022 Mary MacKillop's Birthday On this day (15 January) in 1842, Mary MacKillop was born! Mary was born in Brunswick Street, Fitzroy in Melbourne, Australia - the ...first child of Scottish immigrants Alexander and Flora (nee MacDonald) MacKillop. As stated by Sr Mary (Sisters of Saint Joseph): "Birthdays remind us that we each have a purpose in life. As we celebrate the birthday of Mary MacKillop and ponder her ‘infancy narratives’, we thank God that not only did she fulfil her purpose during her earthly pilgrimage, but that God continues to act through her in example and in the remembrance of prayer. Our celebration becomes an act of praise. We praise God for the birth of Mary MacKillop the pioneer, who brought about Father Woods’ dream of a Sisterhood suited to the particular circumstances of early Australia. We thank God for giving her the grace of trust in what she called ‘Divine Providence’, enabling her to get through the darkest of times and to takes risks beyond daring. She has shown us that ultimate happiness and fulfillment are found in searching out God’s will for our lives. Above, she has demonstrated to us the power of love." 09.01.2022 Canonisation of St Mary MacKillop In Search of a Miracle Sr Maria Casey (Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart) has shared her experience on the process f...or the cause of Mary MacKillop's canonisation. "A significant requirement for a canonisation is the attribution of a miracle to the intercession of the person to be canonised. Saint Mary of the Cross was beatified by Pope John Paul II at Randwick Racecourse on 19 January, 1995. She was, by that proclamation, a saint for Australia. The next step was to seek her canonisation, a step that would recognise her as a saint for the universal church. This process required proof of her intercession by the recognition of another miracle which was needed to take place after the beatification." "In 2001, [Sr Maria] was appointed vice-postulator to Fr Paul Gardiner sj who was the Postulator since 1984. One of the tasks was to find a cure that would meet the stringent requirements to be considered for study as a miracle." 07.01.2022 World Kindness Day Today (13 November) we we are reminded to look beyond ourselves and see what we can do for others. Saint Mary MacKillop is a great example ...of a person who looked beyond herself - she was all about helping others and never spoke ill will of anyone, showing kindness to all those she met. She also expressed kindness in her letters to family, sisters, other religious, students and friends. We pray to give and embrace kindness to and with all those we meet In the words of St Mary of the Cross: "Put kind constructions where you can, and where you cannot, be silent." 05.01.2022 Today is the feast day of Saint John Paul II. Born Karol Józef Wojtya in Poland in 1920 Saint John Paul II was renowned for his peace efforts, promoting a grea...ter understanding between nations and religions and his extensive writings on topics as broad as poverty and Communism to the theology of the body. His legacy consists of major contributions to the Roman Catholic Church, including the establishment of World Youth Day, and he is the patron saint of Poland, the Archdiocese of Kraków, young Catholics and families. John Paul II passed away in Vatican City in 2005, was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in 2011, and canonised by Pope Francis in 2014.

05.01.2022 Reflection: A Woman with a Heart Full of Trust Mary MacKillop wrote in 1883: "When I could not see my way God kept my heart full of trust to make all come ri...ght." Mary MacKillop was a woman who had great trust in God, believing that God would provide whatever was needed in all aspects of her life, be it food for the orphanages, money for the building of the convent, strength to face opposition and false accusation or a way through a difficult situation. She often reminded her Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart that ‘God’s work does not depend on any of us’. She had a wonderful confidence in God. 05.01.2022 Advent marks the beginning of a new liturgical year. It wouldn't be out of place to think about a few new year's resolutions to keep, just as we would for a new... calendar year. . Need some help getting started? Here are some ideas: Complete reading the 4 Gospels in a year Spend 10 minutes more in daily prayer Volunteer your time to serve the underprivileged Be completely present to your family by putting away the phone Set aside time for weekly adoration . These are just a few examples of little changes we could bring to our spiritual life. If they seem daunting or unattainable, remember the Lord doesn't seek perfection, but only that we try with all our heart. He will provide every grace we need to draw closer to him #advent #newliturgicalyear #newyearresolutions #resolution #spirituallife #spiritualresolutions #catholic #catholicism

04.01.2022 Today marks 10 years since Mary MacKillop, Australia’s first Saint, was canonised by Pope Benedict XVI. We honour Mary MacKillop because she was a courageous A...ustralian who, at a great cost to herself, followed her dream to spread the Good News to the children of Australia. Her motto of ‘never see a need without doing something about it’ continues to call us forth to action. Mary is also the Brisbane Archdiocesan Patron Saint. This painting of Saint Mary MacKillop is the work of Mary Mackillop Catholic Primary School Ms Jo Murphy. For more information https://bit.ly/343gKhZ
