21.01.2022 Easter Sunday He is risen! Easter is the celebration of Christ's resurrection from the dead. It is celebrated on Sunday, and marks the end of Holy Week, the e...nd of Lent, the last day of the Easter Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday), and is the beginning of the Easter season of the liturgical year. As we know from the Gospels, Jesus Christ rose from the dead on the third day following his crucifixion, which would be Sunday. His resurrection marks the triumph of good over evil, sin and death. It is the singular event which proves that those who trust in God and accept Christ will be raised from the dead. Since Easter represents the fulfillment of God's promises to mankind, it is the most important holiday on the Christian calendar. Following Easter Sunday, the season of Easter begins and lasts for seven weeks, ending with Pentecost. There are many traditions that surround the entire Lent season, Holy Week, and Easter Sunday. Generally observed traditions across the globe include the Easter bunny, coloured eggs, gift baskets, and flowers. Here are a few more interesting traditions from around the world: In Australia, bunnies are considered pests that ruin crops and land. Aussies celebrate with their native marsupial, the Bilby, which has large ears and a pointy nose. In Poland on Easter Monday, boys try to soak people with buckets of water. This tradition has is rooted in the baptism of Polish Prince Mieszko on Easter Monday in 996. In Greece, the morning of Holy Saturday is known as the annual "pot throwing" where residents throw pots out of windows. It is a tradition used to mark the beginning of spring and new crops being gathered in new pots. In Europe, there are large bonfires called Easter Fires that are lit on Easter Sunday into Monday. The Saxon origin is that the fires will chase away winter and Easter will bring spring. So, whichever tradition you choose to follow, please enjoy this very special time with your loved ones and stay well everyone! Happy Easter the Lord is risen!

20.01.2022 The Prayer for Love, Service and Sacrifice God of love and life. We remember and recall in our hearts, Our very own Sr Irene McCormack*,... And all missionaries like her, Who continue to offer their lives, For love of you and your beloved people, In every poor and persecuted community, Throughout the world. Help us to draw inspiration, From their loving service and sacrifice. Through their example, May we find the courage To lovingly respond To what the Holy Spirit calls us to become, Through simple acts of kindness, And concern for the poor and our common home, In the ordinariness of our everyday lives. Amen. * Sr Irene McCormack was a West Australian missionary who belonged to the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart. Whilst living and working pastorally in an isolated and very poor rural village community in Peru, she was murdered along with many innocent villagers by a terrorist gang on 21 May 1991.
