16.01.2022 'Presently, in step two of the COVID-19 road map, Melbourne’s doors of faith are closed. Churches, synagogues, temples and mosques are shut, pending a governmen...t announcement that they can open again,' Archbishop Peter A Comensoli writes in today's Herald Sun. 'These are not places of "mere formality", but of lively and attentive care to vulnerable people, and of support to those facing sickness, loneliness, grief and death. They are places of hope and wellbeing, and of spiritual friendship. Why would pool water shared by 30 swimmers at a time be considered safer than baptism water poured over one infant child? The spectre of our places of worship remaining closed except for private prayer leaves our people feeling exiled and pushed outside.' Read the full piece: bit.ly/WeDeserveHopeNotExile

15.01.2022 The Catholic Bishops of Victoria have written to Premier Daniel Andrews raising concerns of unfairness in COVID restrictions to people of faith: "In the most si...mple of measures, the current restrictions in regional Victoria literally fail the ‘pub test’: if people of faith can gather in a restaurant or bar catering for a particular number of patrons (and remove their face covering), they ought to be able to put on their mask, cross the road and worship in their faith community with the same numbers, provided equivalent COVID-safe practices are in place. We ask that this disparity be rectified urgently and that the principle of fairness be applied for each subsequent step on the roadmap to reopening." Read more here: bit.ly/LettertoPremier250920

Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest His head." And to another He said, "Follow me." But he replied, "Lord, let me go first and bury my father." But He answered him, "Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God." And another said, "I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home." Jesus answered him, "No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God." See more

04.01.2022 This weekend marks 10 years since Mary MacKillop's canonisation. As Australia's first saint, Mary is a wonderful example of faith for all of us. She dedicated h...er life to the service of others and in times of doubt and struggle drew strength from her conviction in God's providence and love. During these trying days of the pandemic, it is worth remembering that Mary our sister and our saint walked the same streets and was just like us: a pilgrim on a journey. In 1907 she wrote to her Sisters: ‘We must let no obstacles deter us from proceeding with courage in the path marked out for us. It may sometimes be dark and full of windings, but a beautiful bright light shines at the end of this path and a few more windings will bring us to it.’ This Friday (16 October) at 8pm, the Sisters of St Joseph invite everyone to join them in a virtual 'Courage Hour', a global vigil of deep peace, prayer, and reflection. To join the Vigil, head to their website (www.sosj.org.au/10th-anniversary/) to celebrate Mary’s life and follow her lead to ‘Take Fresh Courage’. : Painting of St Mary MacKillop on the wall of All Saints Catholic Parish on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.

04.01.2022 Gospel of the Day (St Matthew 18:1-5,10) https://www.vaticannews.va//word-of-the-day/2020/10/02.html The disciples approached Jesus and said, "Who is the great...est in the kingdom of heaven?" He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said, "Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me. See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father." See more

01.01.2022 Gospel of the Day (St Luke 10:17-24) https://www.vaticannews.va//word-of-the-day/2020/10/03.html The seventy-two disciples returned rejoicing and said to Jesus..., "Lord, even the demons are subject to us because of your name." Jesus said, "I have observed Satan fall like lightning from the sky. Behold, I have given you the power 'to tread upon serpents' and scorpions and upon the full force of the enemy and nothing will harm you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven." At that very moment He rejoiced (in) the holy Spirit and said, "I give You praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although You have hidden these things from the wise and the learned You have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been Your gracious will. All things have been handed over to Me by My Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal Him." Turning to the disciples in private he said, "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I say to you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it." See more
