22.01.2022 Another gorgeous resource from Riley Callie Resources. We do a lot of cooking and discovery in the kitchen at St Mary’s and one of our goals is to have a workable bush food garden that we can use in our kitchen. Another learning space in our garden and plenty of native flowers for our soon to come native bees. 20.01.2022 Warmly welcoming visitors into our preschool is very important to us. Understanding what it takes to do so is a beautiful skill to master. At preschool greeting new friends is vital, mostly it’s a Hello or Yaama maybe a smile and a wave. It is also nice to have something to offer our visitors. Today we made Krystle some lemon Myrtle scones with home made marmalade and strawberry jam. Our new friend Krystle came in today to teach us a beautiful song about a kookaburra in langu...age. Now most of us know the Kookaburra song, but do you know the Gugurrgaagaa song. The children learned it quickly and it has now become their new favourite. They were also keen to share with Krystle other words and songs they have learned in language over the past year. Learning about our countries beautiful traditional culture through song/language is nothing short of inspiring. Thank you Krystle for coming and sharing your knowledge with us today. Yaluu for now and we can’t wait to see you again next term. #learninglanguage #Gugurrgaagaa #kookaburra #sharingculture #sharingknowledge

17.01.2022 We had a delivery today from Riley Callie Resources, Mirii Designs The children were quick set up for a game with the bush food snap cards. We had a solid 45 minutes worth of children coming and going from the space learning, trying, watching, laughing and participating Some children were unsure of how to play while others were really keen to share their skill on the game. The bush food pictures and names added a beautiful cultural layer all wrapped up in important detail about the land around us. These cards help to extend the children’s knowledge about different types of bush food, but also promoted further discussion around the bush foods we already have in our garden and new plants the children are excited to add. #persistence #perseverence #patience #Aboriginalperspective #conectiontocountry #careforourlandandcountry

15.01.2022 Real tools...is there another way to really engage and learn? Real and authentic experiences are what our children crave. That element of danger and risk is present which allows the children to decide if the want to take it or not. Making considered choices can be difficult but our children are learning their teachers trust them which in turn allows them to trust themselves and their own choices. #riskyplay #dangerouselements #makingchoices #trustingourselves #trustingourteachers #webuiltourowncar

13.01.2022 A big part of the preschool journey is preparing for the transition to big school. At St Mary’s we value the journey as much as the destination and today that involved stepping out into our community and investing in our self confidence. The children delivered some pamphlets about their Food Bank and Book Exchange (see the video from earlier today) and hung signs in our North Tamworth community. The teachers have been so overwhelmed by the children’s selflessness, sense of empathy and the generosity of our beautiful families. #confidentcommunicators #readyforschool #sustainablefuture #proud

12.01.2022 We had an inspiring day today celebrating Indigenous Literacy Day. Can you imagine never seeing a book written in your own language? We can’t either! We have plans in the making on how we can engage with some of these children, sharing not only literacy but all kinds of shared learning experiences and hopefully friendships with them. We also cooked and ate damper together, painted animals out of stories from remote communities written in language from that nation to, thanks ...to ILF. These are stories those children can relate to and finally get to see printed in their language. We had many discussions throughout the day and one of our friends decided we should keep the donation tin out the front for anyone else who didn’t get the chance to donate today. 12.01.2022 We have had a mural in our minds and thoughts for sometime now and finding the right artist has been a very important step. We are very proud to share with you all we have found Kaliela at Maaya-li Dhawun Creations - Aboriginal Artist. Kaliela is an amazing local Aboriginal artist who has visited with us twice now. Today Kaliela popped in and while meeting with the children discussed her draft artwork with them. Our children shared some of their ideas about animals they would like to add including Burrugarbuu and Dhinawan in the sky. We are already in love with Kaliela’s ideas and can’t wait to work together. #ThankyouKaliela #Aboriginalartist #mural #artworkblurreduntilthebigreveal #love

08.01.2022 So busy on this Thursday. This morning we made Lemon Myrtle melting moments and further discovered our very own Lemon Myrtle tree smelling this gorgeous leaves. A little later, outside we made a hose reel using the drill. #homemade #bushfood #realtools #realcooking #lifeskills

08.01.2022 Our lid collection is still going and has been a big source of discussions and sorting today. We have refreshed the reuse, reduce, recycle message with the children again so in the coming days and weeks, your children will be looking for lids with the number 2 and 4 in your recycling boxes I’m sure. Thank you for your ongoing support in our effort to guide the children toward a greener world. #sustainability #envisionhands #mobilityaids #redusereuserecycle

06.01.2022 Today we started our very own individualised beeswax wrap. The children chose their colour and began their drawings. Tomorrow we iron on the beeswax. In our garden today some of the children explored loose parts on a small scale, moving dirt and sand to build their own miniature bike ramp in a small dirt patch in the middle of the yard. #sustainablepractices #buildingcreativity #encouragingthought #takecareofourcountrytogether

02.01.2022 So today the tears began to fall as we said goodbye to our Rosie. Gradually from now our friends will begin to leave preschool for their final time. While it is sad for us to say goodbye we know they are ready to take on big school and we wish them all the very best for their future. #bigschoolready #wewillmissyou #safetravels

02.01.2022 Some gorgeous cooking with our home grown plums this morning and a little bit of Christmas cooking too. #plumtarts #peppermintcoconutballs #growyourown #christmasiscoming

02.01.2022 This afternoon after making strawberry ice cream with Hayley this morning we had an ice cream shop. The children got to practise asking the shop keeper for their icecream and paying for it. Building communication skills and confidence is key. #confidentcommunicators #homemadeicecream

01.01.2022 Today our children were asked to design their own beehive. As we wait excitedly for our bees to arrive hopefully next term, it is time for us to prepare our preschool to accommodate them appropriately. While they are native, the weather in Tamworth does get really hot and pretty cold so it is important we do our research to protect them as much as we can #nativestinglessbees #holisticapproach #childrensvoicesandideas #bringingnativesback #caringforourlandcaringforourcountry #nativeaustralia
