18.01.2022 KINDY-SET-GO Today we held the second day of our Kindy-Set-Go Programme for the children starting at St Mary's in 2021. The children played happily and independently and were very engaged in activities. Last week we had a Literacy focus and the children listened to stories, sang songs, completed craft activities and danced to Nursery rhymes.... Today the focus was Mathematics. The children counted, sang, danced and we even had time to explore our new and amazing play equipment. We are now half way through the programme. Karin Williams & Mandy Williams

17.01.2022 BOOK WEEK WRAP UP Curious Creatures, Wild Minds was the theme for our Book Week celebrations. The focus for the week was the celebration of books, along with the students’ love of reading. Students were enthusiastic and very excited as they attempted to piece together a series of clues to solve the ‘Mystery Reader’ puzzle and guess which classroom teacher would be joining them to share a much-loved story. A BIG thank you to all our families that have so generously supported the Book Fair. Our celebrations concluded with a Book Character Dress Up Day. Dancing, laughter, and joy filled faces could be seen on the playground as students entertained in our virtual book character parades. Joanne Murphy

12.01.2022 MEET THE STAFF MONDAY Getting to know .....Donna Dal Molin Role...School Secretary How long have you worked in schools? This is my 4th year at St Mary’s. I have worked at a high school and before moving to Young worked at the Wollongong Hospital School. ... What do you love the most about your job?... No two days are the same. I am lucky to work with some very inspirational, clever & creative people. Working at a school is a privilege. What is your helpful tip for new St Mary’s parents?... Don’t stress the small stuff, talk to your teacher. What do you do outside of school to relax?... I love spending time with my family and renovating. I love being involved in Community Sport. Young has a wide range of sports and there is something for everyone.

04.01.2022 BUNNINGS BANNER Bunnings is running a school banner competition that incorporates the essence of the Young Cherry Festival. Last week, Alex Presser (from KE) and some Year 6 students (Lucy Eastwood, Mia Davidson, Hunta McCann, Marli Shipp and some of their friends at the end of the week) gave up many of their lunch and recess times to work on St Mary's banner alongside Mrs Heggaton, Mrs Manchester and Mrs Williams. The banner will be displayed at the Young Store on the exte...rior timberyard fence to showcase the students work. The Community will then be able to vote by way of a letter box drop near the timber yard from Monday 16th November to Thursday 26th November 2020 (between 7am-6pm) . The top 2 winners will be provided with a $500 gift card to spend on a sustainability project. Please be sure to pop down and vote as the students worked really hard on this project and they are very proud of their finished work. Thank you in advance and DON'T FORGET TO VOTE FOR ST. MARY'S PRIMARY SCHOOL! Mandy Williams See more

01.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK AT ST MARY’S This week St Mary's commemorated NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The theme for NAIDOC Week this year was, Always Was, Always Will Be. Always Was, Always Will Be recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. They are spiritually and culturally connected to this country. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island...er people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. This country was criss-crossed by generations of brilliant Nations. The students at St Mary's explored this theme in class through a variety of meaningful and thoughtful actvities. Siobhan Roberts
