23.01.2022 In parts of Tasmania, it is looking smoky and hazy, particularly on the east coast. This smoke is coming from bushfires in Victoria and New South Wales, not Tas...mania. This smoke and haze is likely to remain or worsen across the state today and into tonight. The Tasmania Fire Service would like the community to be aware of this, however, to remain vigilant and don’t hesitate to call triple zero ‘000’ to report any new smoke sightings if unsure of where it is coming from. A Total Fire Ban remains in place until 2am Tuesday morning in the north and south. www.fire.tas.gov.au

16.01.2022 TFS has declared a total fire ban on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday for the eastern half of the state. A total fire ban means it is illegal to light or to cause a... fire in the open. This includes (but is not limited to) incinerators, burn-offs, campfires, fire pots, and wood-fuelled barbecues. The total fire ban applies to municipalities in the north and south: Break O'Day, George Town, Northern Midlands, Dorset, Launceston, West Tamar, Flinders, Meander Valley, Brighton, Derwent Valley, Hobart, Sorell, Central Highlands, Glamorgan Spring Bay, Huon Valley, Southern Midlands, Clarence, Glenorchy, Kingborough, and Tasman. More information on Total Fire Bans and incidents in your area can be found at www.fire.tas.gov.au or by listening to ABC Radio.

16.01.2022 A total fire ban is in force tomorrow in all municipalities in the north and south due to Very High fire danger.

12.01.2022 This is why we never put water on hot oil or fat.

10.01.2022 Our very own Sam Brake from St Patricks River Brigade is bound for Nowra. Stay safe guys and girls.

08.01.2022 St Patricks River 4.1 was called out mid-afternoon to a vegetation fire (escaped burn) at Weavers Creek Road, Nunamara. St Patricks River 4.1 were first to arri...ve, but crews from both Launceston and Ravenswood arrived shortly after to assist. Winds and low humidity created a challenging environment. Several spot fires in unburnt bushland had to be rapidly contained, but with the effort of all in attendance, the fire was brought under control. The area will be patrolled by both the landowner and TFS personnel today to ensure there is no loss of containment, particularly in light of the winds and hot temperatures forecast. 07.01.2022 We've seen an increase in call outs to people burning off on their properties and leaving the fire unattended. Make sure you give us a call to register your bu...rn. That way we can put the fire on our map and if someone calls to report the fire, we'll be able to give you a call before we respond. This way you can avoid an unnecessary visit from your local brigade and our vollies can carry on enjoying their long weekend. Fires on your property must never be left unattended, even at this time of year, and make sure it's out before you leave it. Stay safe everyone!

05.01.2022 Many bushfires TFS crews have responded to already this season have started by out-of-control burn-offs conducted by landholders on private property, or previou...s burns that have flared up in windy, dry conditions. Rather than burning cubic metre piles at this time of year, TFS is encouraging people to consider other methods for disposing vegetation waste. It is too dry, the risk is too great and the consequences too high. Landowners who have recently had fires on their property must keep checking them to ensure they are completely extinguished. If a fire escapes your property, you will be liable for any damage caused.
