18.01.2022 Today we're celebrating the UN's International Day of Older Persons. Older Australians enrich our communities in so many ways - through the meaningful roles they play in the lives of their families and friends, the contributions they make through volunteering, and in some cases through employment or business ownership. At St Paul's we work hard to support our elderly community to live their best lives possible which includes doing all we can to keep them safe during the pa...ndemic. Here's to making our communities stronger and more sustainable so we can build a great future for our aged care systems - because after all, ageing is part of everyone's life. #agedcare #LASA

08.01.2022 Lorraine & Eric I met Eric 21 years ago on a blind date. It was at a Christmas party and he bought me champagne and roses. I remember thinking he was absolutely gorgeous and I was head over heels straight away. We levelled each other out a bit as he was very happy and calm whereas I am quite nervous and outgoing. We have been married for 17 years and counting. I believe the secret to a happy marriage is definitely honesty and love and being there for each other no matter w...hat. Eric left work when he was 59. He kept getting lost and confused which is when I suspected something was wrong and started joining support groups. It took five years for him to be officially diagnosed with dementia and its been twelve years since then. I guess now its more of a one way relationship since he can no longer initiate a conversation. The other day we were walking in the garden and he sort of looked at me and held out his hand and said oh I love you. It doesn’t happen very often, but it’s moments like those that I really cherish. Our favourite thing to do together is dancing. When the old time songs play we dance together and he holds me tight. Sometimes he will put his hand on my bum and I say you naughty boy and he laughs. He’s still a bit cheeky. Some day’s he wont recognize me straight away and I say it’s Lozza, the wife in strife and he laughs his head off and puts his hand out for me to hold. We still have our little inside jokes. In the warmer weather we enjoy taking walks down the main street of Hahndorf, sitting in the shade somewhere, drinking a glass of beer and watching the world go by. It’s lovely to see and receive support from the local community. #dementiaawareness #dementiaweek
