02.04.2022 Graham has previously sent me a fuel gauge and senders out of one of the Military trucks that he restores. This time he sent me down the whole Quad gauge assemb...ly for it. It had definitely seen better days. I stripped it all down and tool the front bezel, the inner bezel , the case and all 4 gauge mounting plates all the nuts and screws, sandblasted them and then had them re-zinc plated. While they were away, I rebuilt the regulator and the fuel gauge, stripped and cleaned the oil and temp and painted all of the pointers. Once I had all the bits back I scuffed the 2 bezels and then etched and then gave them a coat of Satin Black. Polish up the glass lens , make up 4 new insulator disc's for the rear of the gauges, some heatshrink on the heavy duty buzz bars and I think its done- should last another 60 or so years. See more

24.01.2022 Bob is doing up his HZ and has found himself a clean looking set of GTS Gauges. He wanted to make sure they worked 100% as well so he sent them down to me. I ...saw that someone had given them a spit and polish and painted the red lines in what looked like nail polish and had even reset the odometer. I stripped the gauges right down and gave the cases and housings a thorough scrubbing. When I had the gauges stripped I found that when the speedo was reset, not overhauled just wound back- just enough to put the sale price up... they had assembled the odometer incorrectly and it would have stayed on Zero for ever, and they had also damaged the frame the odometer fits into. I stripped the speedo and cleaned it out, rebuilt and lubricated the bottom end, stripped and correctly assembled the odometer and repaired the top frame. I then assembled the speedo and calibrated it back to factory specs. I fitted a new Rare Spares front housing as the original had broken tabs. I then cleaned out the tacho movement and fitted a new circuit board to it that will work with all electronic ignitions, and calibrated it to suit a single coil V8. The quad gauges were in reasonable shape, but the regulator was showing its age, so I stripped it down and overhauled it and rewound it. I then calibrated them back to factory spec. The clock on the other hand had been severely damaged then it was "cleaned out" as soon as I removed it from its steel case I could see gears flopping about , I stripped it right down and then started hunting for enough spares to get it going. It took a while but it is now humming away quite nicely and keeping good time. I had also taken its case and sand blasted and zinc coated it so she looks and works as good as new. The only mod was the wiring insulator was broken on it so I discarded it and fitted a new 2 pin plug to the clock and the loom. Since Bob sent me the loom, I cleaned it up and fitted LED's into all the illumination. It was when I was taking the photos that I noticed the new Speedo front case was killing the illumination. So I stripped it off and compared it to the original and found the difference and fixed it, you learn something new every day. From now on I will do the modification to each case I fit. Finally they are all ready to go back to Bob and be fitted to his car. See more

24.01.2022 Mario has himself a pretty stout LX Torana and didn't trust his engine to the original SL/R Gauges and wanted to get rid of the aftermarket gauges. He contacted... me about building him one of my custom Torana Sports panels. He wasn't to fussed about making it look original, he wanted it to be a custom one that would stand out- the car is Lamborghini orange after all. One of the things he wanted was for the speedo to go past 200 as he is going to run it on the salt flats and wants to see the pointer hit more than 250..... He also wanted a 10,000 RPM tacho with a shift light as the engine spins past 7,000. I showed him some past dash's to show him various ideas for the dials and it gave him some ideas, which we went back and forth with until they fitted and he was happy with them, one subtle touch is changing the symbols on the quad gauges to words, just like the original Autometer ones. The other custom touch was the colour choice. We tried Orange to match the car and a few others but I showed him a white one I did and that sealed the deal. Interesting point being a white dash cxoloured lights really affect it , I tried a set of red globes just to see and it really changed the whole look of the dash. I think blue and green ones would also look pretty trick, but I have fitted it with Cool white and it gives it a real Clinical Clean look. The first set of photos are Cool White and lights off. The 2nd lot is red LEDs, the 3rd and final lot of photos is Warm White. They are all noticeably different. But as with all on my custom Dash's they come with new oil and temp senders and the dash will plug straight in using the original Torana wiring harness. See more

09.01.2022 It's not always LH/X Toranas, Aaron sent me down the dash out of his UC Torana... I have owned a couple and despite their gumby tail lights they are still a Tor...ana, the Dash is as good as the earlier SS but doesn't command anywhere near the same price. I stripped the dash right down and scrubbed out all the plastic components and I then hand painted the redlines on the tacho and quad gauges, while it was apart I repaired the clock and replaced the circuit board in the tacho, now it will work fine with the MSD that Aaron is running on the V8. I then stripped the speedo and rebuilt it, When I tested the quad gauges the oil pressure gauge flicked all over the place, So I re-soldered the rear connector and all the connections on the gauge, now it reads steady and accurate. I assembled all the gauges back into the panel and noticed the clock adjuster was missing a spring and was in constant contact with the clock, so I removed the knob and fitted a spring to hold it away from the clock, Polish up the lens and put it on as well. Before I put the front fascia on I hand painted the silver line around the outside, let it dry and fitted it, the last thing I did was check all the light globes and fit 2 x LED's into the illumination, unlike the earlier Toranas that have the lights behind the dials this is the same as the XD/E FORD!! the light shines from the front onto the dials... 04.01.2022 Mark sent me the cluster out of his HK Monaro to get a full restoration. Not only was the case pretty rusty but so were the dials on all the gauges. I strippe...d the whole dash down and then sand blasted the case and front lens retaining plate and took them to get Zinc Plated. Once I had them back I masked up the case and painted the inside the Bluey/Green colour they were painted from Factory, I had VG PAints match the colour last year and mix me up a couple of litres. This dash is a rare model, I have found 2 different versions, one has no light light domes and it had a clear front lens. This model has green light domes, and had the bluey / green paint splashed around ( it was never a complete coverage inside the ends were basically overspray) these dash's had the green tinted front lens. I am sure more knowledgable people will shed light as to this option. While the gauges were all apart I airbrushed them to bring them back to life and not 50 shades of faded I then took the sandblasted dials, painted then satin black and fitted my own decals to them. at the same time I took the opportunity to convert the Amp Meter to a Voltmeter, now it doesn't matter if Mark is running a high amp alternator. I also replaced the original oil pressure and water temp movements and fitted brand new VDO ones - same manufacturer as original but lated generation and not 50 years old- as a bonus these come with brand new senders as well. Lastly I overhauled and calibrated the speedo and fitted them all back into the fresh housing, I bought a new tinted lens and fitted it as well, to help see it at night I fitted a set of LED's and she is good to go.
