23.01.2022 Today is bittersweet. One of our lodgers is moving out into their own home. We have loved having them as part of our community and will miss them here. They have signed up to be a volunteer so this is not the end but a new beginning. (We know they will make an awesome volunteer!)

21.01.2022 PLEASE SHARE. Can you help? We've had a great guy live with us for the last 8 weeks who needs a place to move on to. He's 39, on Job Seeker but has the promise of work with a previous employer once restrictions begin to lift. He's been a great lodger, diligent at doing his duties and always paid on time. He would ideally like a place where he can have his dog. He would consider a good share house. Contact us if you know of a place that would be suitable. Happy to give a reference. 17.01.2022 PLEASE SHARE: One of our lodgers this year moved out into a caravan. He only has it on loan until Christmas and would dearly love a longer-term place to stay in the Valley before then. Do you know of a room in a share house or a self-contained, affordable unit? Anywhere from Mt Evelyn up the Warby highway or even Healsville would be OK.

16.01.2022 UPDATE He has found a spot for the caravan. We have a lodger who has been trying very hard for the last three months to find a place to live. We have lived together for the last 10 weeks and I would happily give him a reference. He's paid his rent a day early every fortnight, he's pulled his weight with duties around the place, is clean and tidy and generally a great bloke. He just needs a break. We have the offer of a caravan for three months but need somewhere to put it where there would be access to a bathroom. He is currently on a job seeker payment (plus the COVID supplement) but has work with his previous employer in Bayswater once restrictions are lifted and things open up again. Can you help? 16.01.2022 Our volunteers are so valuable ... they are like a breath of fresh air for our community! They come in to clean, to cook but mostly to connect. Each one is unique and brings a different skill. Sadly COVID has meant that we've had to cut their numbers to the bare minimum, ask them to wear masks and ban them from joining in activities. We look forward to a day with no restrictions when we get to see their smiles again. Here's Fiona announcing that lunch is ready.

15.01.2022 Our last lodger left today after a 12 week stay. He moved into the 'Valley Van' which is on loan from @ADRA Redwood Community Centre. Before he drove away, he sat at the bench he made for us and answered a couple of questions. https://stableone.org

12.01.2022 We moved another lodger into their new home this week - a connection through our local church partnerships. Grateful too for feedback that shows we are achieving the outcomes we were aiming for ... CARE, CONNECT, EMPOWER. "This time in my life will be with me for the rest of my days. This has been the catalyst that will help me to enjoy and live life again to the fullest."

07.01.2022 This post from 4 years ago popped up in memories today. What a journey we've been on ... 3 years of winter shelters in churches and a supported accommodation pilot in the Yarra Valley as well as churches in Maroondah, Bendigo, Sunbury and Wang all supported to get shelters up and running. We're coming out of this year full of hope and optimism as we continue to trust God for more opportunities to love our (homeless) neighbours in the years ahead.

07.01.2022 It's a wrap. We're all cleaned up and moved out today. Big thanks to all our volunteers but especially this one (my husband) who gave up his job at the end of June so that we could work together. He has so many different skills to me, so we make a good team! We're excited about the future ... lots of awesome opportunities ahead for Stable One. 05.01.2022 Need a haircut, colour or even a perm? Our friend Samantha is starting up her own business and is looking for clients. She's been in the biz for 30 years and has lots of experience including with elderly clients, people with disabilities and kids with special needs. Give her a call. She'll not only do your hair, but will most likely put a smile on your face too. Appointments available before Christmas.

05.01.2022 Who doesn't love new bed sheets and soft fluffy towels? HUGE thanks to Sheridan for donating and delievering these 'SleepSafe kits' to use at The Lodge when we reopen early next year. Each Lodger will receive their own kit which contains a set of quality single bed sheets and a towel. The funds to make this possible have been generously donated by Sheridan customers in store and online.
