23.01.2022 ‘10,000 Layers’ A little over 4 years ago I was traumatised hearing the casual words of easy assault from soon to be president Trump. I literally walked the world differently knowing that this ‘locker room’ I heard about all my life really was where men and boys learn to assault women. Here’s to elevating the discourse beyond assault. Here’s to living life after trauma. Here’s to being more than an ornament to grab.

10.01.2022 Storytelling tip # 2. Put your camera where you are most likely to use it. In 2015 I decided to photograph a few times each week. I was involved with 'Wish You Were Here' (digital postcards from around the world) which is a group of photographers connecting and sharing images of their daily lives each week... they are still going. I think on their 7th year. I was motivated and had a group of women whom I still love to connect with visually. I never really pose my kids when do...ing this type of imagery. I maybe will ask them to do something a couple more times or continue my conversation with them with my camera at my face... I never, ever ask my kids to smile and especially not to say cheese. What is that, anyway? In 2015 I would simply grab my camera (usually stored in my kitchen) and photograph what my kids were doing. They know me, they are used to me with a camera. So I wouldn't have to set up the shot or announce that anything was happening. Just normal conversation. Or no conversation. It might help to involve your kids. Allow them to learn about your camera and begin to create photographs... have them take a couple of you. These photographs are a selection of image I took in the mornings because I found the light to be beautiful and my kids were rumpled and snugly. See more
