22.01.2022 Bit of a proud physio moment when I got this back from the framer (thanks @hand.made.frames). After 13 years working in sports physio across various professional sports, I finally completed my Titling as a Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist last year. Felt a long time coming! It’s probably the last chapter in my studies for quite a while. And I think it makes me the only Sports Physiotherapist, Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and Advanced Scope Physiotherapist (ED) in the state?!? Contenders come at me! Seriously though, it’s not often you get to celebrate these achievements, and ultimately our patients come to see us because we look after them, not because of the letters after our names. 17.01.2022 Exercise tip! Hands up if you’ve done lunges in the past 4 months You’ve probably done body weight. Maybe dumbbells in each hand, or holding a weight to your chest. But have you gone single arm? This is something we use a lot. Why? > increases demand on trunk stability > increases demand on front hip (glute) > challenges balance more If you’re looking for maximal strength, you’re better off double-handed. 14.01.2022 Rehab advice - ITB (knee) pain! I’ve been slowly building my run volume in an effort to get on top of ITB pain (see previous post). This is the routine I’ve been doing to prep my hips/glutes prior to running - a key component to solving this problem. The exercises are: 1. a few deep squats to warm up 2. Banded clams - I’ve had mixed feelings about these. But they do target glute med. try a short hold at the top. 3. Side bridge with leg lift vs band - not the easiest varia...nt, but some form of side bridge is usually good for this. 4. Side bridge running man - once again, not a beginner’s drill, but a goodie! 5. Mini scooters vs band - interesting to note how my form shifts on the problem side. Can you pick it? 6. Banded walks - crab (sideways) and monster (diagonal) This took me 7 minutes, no breaks. Glutes were pretty cooked!
