19.01.2022 A huge thank you goes out to each and every person who supported the Red Shield Appeal to help raise $998,000 across Queensland. Whether you made a donation or ...became a digital doorknocker, because of you we are able to continue transforming lives and making a difference in local communities. We would also like to say a special thank you to HopgoodGanim Lawyers for their continued support throughout this time your generosity during the Red Shield Appeal means so much.

16.01.2022 We in The Salvation Army love our music so this picture is probably a good way of expressing how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected us in our corps, missions and centres around the world. We, at Stafford, have been back in corporate worship for three weeks now. You are welcome to come along and join us. Our Sunday service starts at 9.30am and is followed by morning tea - all embracing the coronavirus social distancing protocols. The kids and youth meet from 10am (they worship with us for the first part of the service and then go out for their own activities). We'd love to see you.

14.01.2022 Our prayer warriors will be meeting again from 8.30 this morning - before our worship service. COVID-19 has meant some of these meetings have been in the virtual world - a bit, like the "Telephone to Glory", where "we are all tuned into the partyline" as EH says. When we pray, we need to wait on God for His answer. How does this work for you? Are you good at waiting? Waiting on God needs to be part of our spiritual life. Decades ago, author, Catherine Marshall wrote: "Prayers..., like eggs, don’t hatch as soon as we lay them In Habakkuk 2:1-2 and chapter 3:1, the prophet Habakkuk wrestled with waiting in prayer; frustrated at God’s silence but commits to stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts", to look to see what He will say to me (Habakkuk 2:1). God told Habakkuk to wait for the appointed time. Like eggs, prayers often don’t hatch immediately but incubate in God’s overarching purposes for our world and our lives. Consider Isaiah 40:31: but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Romans 12:12: ‘Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer’. Psalm 27: 13,14: Be strong and brave and wait for the Lord’s help. PraY: "Dear God, help me to trust You to work while I’m waiting, Amen. See more

13.01.2022 Hi friends! Today is International Day of Friendship. In the devotional segment of our band's rehearsal last evening, a bandsmen told of how emotional he felt when we got to worship together again after COVID-19 restrictions on gathering together were eased. How wonderful it was to be among friends as we gathered to worship God as a congregation in the one place again after so long. We members of The Salvation Army are "a friendly bunch". Are we? Are you? Our national magazine, Others, raises that question. Check out Mike Frost's piece titled The Lonely Crowd in the magazine today and see what you think: https://others.org.au/viewpoint/the-lonely-crowd/ Mike Frost is the Director of Mission Studies at Morling College and has a blog at mikefrost.net

12.01.2022 Junior Soldiers is a program to help children learn about the history of The Salvation Army, what the church believes in and how to grow in the love of Jesus as they grow up. Each year, our church has a special day set aside were children can decide to become Junior Soldiers and can get enrolled while those already Junior Soldiers can re-affirm their commitment to the program. We will be doing this in a family service on Sunday, August 16. Come along and support the kids and and worship with other families. Find out what is happening around the country around this special day:

08.01.2022 Today is RUOK? Day. It is an initiative around mental health and suicide prevention. Are you OK? You are encouraged today to share your struggle in good conversation. If you are struggling today (or any day) with the pressures of life, reach out to a trusted friend or family member or call a telephone crisis line. It is important to have a meaningful conversation and to share your journey with others. Connect with people who can at least listen to your hurt from emotional insecurity or your battle with social isolation or difficult circumstance. You can always pray to God.

06.01.2022 R U OK? Day is a timely reminder to check in with each other (not only today but every day). You don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener. Many of us are likely not feeling OK, especially as we wade through affects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The R U OK? website https://www.ruok.org.au/ provides some great resources for starting conversations around mental health within the workplace, with friends, family and the wider community.

06.01.2022 It's Friday and, as a reminder, we're back having corporate worship on Sunday mornings. This Sunday will be our third Sunday back - in case you missed it. The service starts at 9.30. Kidz Rock and Junior Soldiers are back, too - they run from about 10am (the kids sneak out midway through the "big people's meeting"). Of course, we're practising social distancing so the chairs are a little spaced out in the auditorium - the band is even on the platform. We've started a series titled "The Great Adventure". It would be great to have you part of our great adventure that is the Stafford corps faith community. See ya Sundy!

05.01.2022 Yesterday was World Day Against Trafficking in Persons and The Salvation Army's International Social Justice Commission ( @salvationarmyisjc ) has posted this on its Facebook page: "This year’s World Day Against Trafficking in Persons honours the first responders helping to end the crime of human trafficking: law enforcement officers, social workers, healthcare professionals, NGO staff, and many others working around the world to protect the vulnerable. The COVID-19 pandemic... has exposed and exacerbated many global inequalities. Women and girls already account for more than 70 percent of detected human trafficking victims, and today are among the hardest hit by the pandemic. We join with the UN global community to say thank you to all the first responders who are working to respond and prevent further exploitation during COVID-19." #SAFightforFreedom #SAFightsModernSlavery #SAfightsHumanTrafficking #EndHumanTrafficking See more

02.01.2022 Fans of the AFL will be familiar with the first line of the Melbourne Football Club theme song: "It's a grand old flag. It's a high-flying flag." It's been adopted by other clubs, too. The Salvation Army flies under the flag of Yellow Star and Red and Blue symbolising the Fire of the Holy Spirit, the Blood of Jesus Christ and purity. Like all flags, those who walk under them do so proudly and with reverence. Salvationists are proud of their flag. We've traditionally sung many... songs in church that mention our flag and its colours. We at Stafford corps have a new flag flying atop the mast at the front of our complex - new as in just out of the plastic (the old one was a bit weather-beaten). We pray that everyone who sees the flag will be reminded that Jesus is their Saviour, that we have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit and that we all need to strive to be pure, like Jesus. We could change the footy club song to be "It's a grand, old flag. It's a high-flying flag. The emblem for me and for you. It's the emblem of the church we love, the yellow, the red and the blue. etc etc See more

01.01.2022 COVID-19 continues to bite hard. Today, the Premier of Queensland placed south Queensland, in particular the greater Brisbane area, into a form of lockdown limiting the number of people in homes and parks to 10 to stop the potential spread of the virus due to further outbreaks. While many public places may still operate for the moment under re-introduced social distancing guidelines, it has been decided that we will not gather for corporate worship tomorrow. We were to begin a video series on holiness called "The House" but we can all watch the first session in the series. Click on the link below for the session. For the work/discussion sheet, contact CO Major Ian. Watch this space for further information on worship next Sunday.
