23.01.2022 On this day 30 years ago, (April 8, 1990) Stan The Man became the 1st Australian to win a World Kickboxing Title. The very next day Stan decided to relinquish the title because he thought he didn't do enough to dethrone the current champion!... A decision never before made in the sport of Kickboxing. His honesty and sportsmanship did pay off! Over the remaining years of his professional fight career which totalled 100 fights, Stan was rewarded with 8 World Titles which included the World Muay Thai Championship in Pattaya, Thailand in 1996. Stan's legacy was finally topped off in 2013 when he was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. The 1st Martial Artist and only Male to ever be given that honour. 02.01.2022 Flashback! On this day July 20, 1991...29 years ago! Undefeated Stan The Man vs Maurice Smith battled in a 12 round War in Sydney, Australia.... Smith was on a 8 year win streak and the current World Heavyweight Champion. The fight was deemed one of the best 12 round heavyweight kickboxing fights of all time, with Smith winning a very close split decision. 26yo Stan suffered his first defeat of his career but the bout truly moulded him into the fighter he become. Smith is considered one of the greatest fighters of all time, who also won the UFC World Heavyweight Championship and was later inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. Both were good friends many years leading up to their bout and still remain friends today. Living Legends of the fight game!
