23.01.2022 HIGH ARCHES ~ A high arched foot is the opposite of a ‘flat foot’, where the foot does not roll in very much at all. A distinct highly curved arch is apparent along the inside of the foot. Often the toes are also in a clawed position. A high arched foot tends to be very rigid in nature and lacks shock absorbing properties. This is due to the foot failing to roll in adequately just after the heel strikes the ground while walking.... When the foot does not absorb shock effectively symptoms such as shin, knee, heel and spinal pain are commonly seen as these structures are forced to take more force than usual. If you are suffering from foot pain please call as we can help!

17.01.2022 COLOUR ~ Are you a footy fan? #gotigers This week we created a pair of custom orthotics for a 13 year old tigers footy fan! Very cool! The modern orthotic has come along way from when we used to take a plaster cast of the foot. Today, we are now scanning with an iPad and then 3D printing orthotics. This creates a lighter and slimmer product. It also allows you to select lots of bright and beautiful colours! I look forward to seeing and keeping up to date with the developments of orthotics over the next few years - Amy @stancepodiatry

12.01.2022 BAREFOOT ~ Children love going barefoot and there's a reason why it's good for them. While it can be a worry with regards to risk of injury and dirty feet, research shows that it's beneficial for young children's development and wellbeing. One major benefit of allowing a child to go barefoot is that it strengthens the feet and lower legs, making the body more agile and less prone to injury. It also enhances proprioception, the sense of the relative position of neighboring parts of the body and strength of effort being employed in movement. If your child would benefit from seeing a podiatrist..please call or email as we would love to can help! @stancepodiatry

12.01.2022 CHILBLAINS ~ Chilblains are patches of discoloured (red, blue, white), swollen and itchy skin, believed to be caused by a combination of cold weather and poor circulation. The toes are particularly vulnerable, but other extremities that can develop chilblains include fingers, earlobes and the nose. Tight shoes can contribute by further reducing circulation to the toes. For more info check out our blog https://www.stancepodiatry.com.au/blog

It is a common misconception that painful feet are a normal side effect from everyday activities. 06.01.2022 ABCs ~ Do you need help with ankle recovery? This exercise entails drawing the letters of the alphabet with the injured ankle and repeating the exercise 2-3 times every few hours. By drawing the letters, the ankle moves through all the planes of motion (up-down, side-side, rolling in and out and a combination of all of the movements together). This simulates the movement patterns needed for walking and everyday activities, but because these are performed non-weightbearing, there is no excessive force being placed on the injured structures. The movement also enhances the circulation to the damaged tissues and assists in much needed proprioception (awareness of joint position). If you need help with ankle pain or rehab- call or email me as I’d love to help - Amy @stancepodiatry

03.01.2022 3D scanner ~ Here @stance podiatry we are proud to offer 3D orthotic scanning. It works by taking a highly accurate 3D scan of the foot, which is used by our orthotic laboratory to create a precise orthotic prescription. The end result is a more comfortable and functional orthotic. Another advantage is it can be done within a matter of minutes AND we no longer need to take plaster molds of the feet (meaning less mess!) If your current orthotics need replacing or if you have been putting off getting custom orthotics book an appointment to have a 3D scan.

02.01.2022 BEACH WALKS ~ The beach is a wonderful place in all seasons, but spring is a perfect time to get our toes in the sand. The warm water and fresh sea breezes are an inviting way to relax and step away from the daily stress. It is important, however, to keep the safety of your feet in mind while you wander along beside the waves. If you suffer from foot pain when walking on the beach...feel free to call us as we would love to help!

01.01.2022 TOWEL SCRUNCH ~ The towel scrunch can help you regain proper activation of the muscles that build the arch of your foot and can help develop better stability. Whether you’re a runner, walker or a bike rider, you can get hip, knee or foot pain if the small foot muscles aren’t strong enough. This is an awesome place to start and it can be done at home! you just need a towel. If you have any questions - feel free to call or email us!
