17.01.2022 This week our STRONG Tweens/Teens requested that we cover the topic of Dealing with Bullying. Bullying is a very difficult issue to deal with. It can hurt us on so many levels and make us feel sad, anxious, depressed, fearful and alone. It’s important to know that unfortunately we can’t always stop the way other people behave. However, we can do things to strengthen ourselves. When we focus on ourselves, instead of the bully, we give ourselves the power. Here are our top tips... to support you if you or a friend are going through bullying. TOP TIPS FOR DEALING WITH BULLYING: 1. Remember It's Not You - If someone is bullying you, remember that it’s their issue and not yours. You haven't done anything wrong, so try not to be hard on yourself. 2. Self - Care - Do things that make you feel good! Put time into yourself to help you feel happy. It’s important to take care of yourself if you are experiencing bullying. 3. Talk About It -Tell a trusted adult what is happening. It’s important to reach out for support and not go through the situation alone. 4. Journaling/Writing - Writing your feelings down in a journal or notebook can help to get your feelings out. Sometimes we can't find the words to talk so writing can help. 5. Stay Connected - Try not to push people away or hide away from others. This is an important time to stay connected with others. 6. Boost Your Confidence - Do things to boost your confidence! Try getting out of your comfort zone and exploring new things. Remember, no one has the right to put you down!
15.01.2022 This week our STRONG Juniors covered the topic of Self Care - Filling Your Own Cup! Sometimes, it’s easy to keep going and give so much of ourselves to others. When we care about people and try to be there for people, it’s easy to forget that we need to be there for ourselves too. This session was about filling our own cups and taking time to prioritise self-care and time out. It’s important to practice regular self-care and to refill our own cups, especially if we are feelin...g tired, exhausted, drained or stressed. HERE ARE OUR TOP TIPS FOR FILLING YOUR OWN CUP: 1. Self-Care - Take time to do things that make you feel happy and cared for and things you can do on your own that you enjoy. E.g. painting, music, writing, cooking, pampering yourself. 2. Nutrition and Regular Exercise - Keep yourself physically and mentally healthy with exercise and nutrition. We really do feel good when we move our bodies and eat healthy. 3. Get Some Sleep - Get a healthy amount of sleep by making sure you are creating healthy nighttime habits that help you sleep. 4. It’s Okay to Say ‘No’ - Learn how to say, ‘no.’ If you are feeling exhausted, it’s important for you to take time to rest and not feel guilty for it. 5. Try Slowing Down - Most of us live very busy lives. When we are busy, we often forget to take time to slow down. Slowing down is a great way to recharge our energy. Breathing exercises and mindfulness activities are great ways to help us slow down. 6. Switch Your Devices Off -Turn your electronic devices off for an hour or two to give yourself some time for YOU! It's important to focus on yourself when you are recharging. It can be difficult to focus on yourself when you are online or talking with friends on your phone.
