25.01.2022 Today we were able to recognise the service of two outstanding gentlemen, Ex Capt: Ross Bolden 37 years service Ex FF: Quentin Addison 20 years service ... Ross served two periods as captain during the 90s and 00s as well as serving a term as communications officer with Lower Yarra Group (Nillumbik Group) his knowledge and experience will be greatly missed however he will still stay on as an auxiliary member of the brigade. Quentin has served as 1st Lieutenant as well as a stint as acting captain during the mid 00s and more recently as both brigade and group community safety coordinator, his dedication to fire prevention and community engagement will be missed, he will continue his work with CFA in a community liaison role at a state level. Best of luck in both your future endeavours!
23.01.2022 Today we were out ensuring we can safely work around trees and practiced our entrapment drills, fire safety is everyone’s responsibility! CFA (Country Fire Authority)
23.01.2022 Although we can’t physically train or catch up, we can have fun looking at fun activities we did in the pre COVID world! Who remembers this!! The year was 1998 and we were celebrating the 140th birthday of the St. Andrews primary school! Note: we have newer trucks between you and and a bushfire now
22.01.2022 We have two fire trucks. Are you prepared for a bushfire?
22.01.2022 We found Santa tonight needing a ride to the local St. Andrews primary school so we absolutely said yes! Before heading back to the North Pole Santa wanted to practice some wildfire skills to take back to teach the elves at the North Pole!
21.01.2022 Request: Due to a computer deciding to die earlier this year, I have been able to locate all our historical pictures with the exception of a couple! And I recall the two in question came from a fb request a couple of years ago. 1. Was a picture of St. Andrews tanker in the Main Street of Hurstbridge in the 60s from memory in front of the now milk bar.... 2. Was a picture of the St. Andrews tanker again from probably the 60s with St. Andrews on the front bull bar and areal visible. My apologies to those that sent them in! The only two I didn’t back up! If you see this and can help, please send them on to the email in the original post and if anyone has others please send them through too! Regards Matt

19.01.2022 CREWS QUICKLY ON SCENE TO A REMOTE FULLY INVOLVED STRUCTURE FIRE IN COTTLES BRIDGE: At approximately 10:40pm last night, St. Andrews was paged to support Panton Hill CFA to a fully involved structure fire after multiple 000 calls, resources were quickly escalated before arrival due to the obvious nature of the fire en route. St. Andrews tanker being the first fire truck on scene behind Panton Hill ultra light quickly deployed crews in BA to conduct asset protection. Due to t...he lack of water in these remote locations, multiple appliances arrived to assist with both firefighter rotation at the incident as well as supplying a steady stream of water to the primary appliance. There were no injuries or missing people and the residents are safe. At the height of the fire there were 15 tankers, BA support, field communications and a lighting unit on scene. Photo credit. 19.01.2022 First responders, whether fire brigade, police, ambulance or state emergency service all deserve the right to come home feeling safe and well after a call for assistance. We are here to help the community and unfortunately sometimes we are abused both verbally and physically. You wouldn’t be human if being thrown abuse at, being chased or being attacked didn’t affect you mentally. Please respect first responders, we are here to make our community safe.
19.01.2022 After consultation with the Victorian health officials, CFA are permitted to undertake training again ahead of the fire danger period. Strict number caps, covid safe plans, the usual masking and gloves etc and limiting training to a timeframe and working within curfew restrictions will be the norm for a while. So if you see us out and about a bit more than over the past year, this is why. Regards Matt
18.01.2022 When you look at the Vic Emergency website for your warnings information, you will see new icons from today. Victoria will adopt the 5 new Australian Warnings System icons and update all other incident and warning icons to the new design which form the new Australian Warning System. Australian Warning System is a new national approach to information and warnings during emergencies and natural disasters like bush fire, flood, storm, extreme heat and severe weather.... https://fb.watch/26Le75Uk_s/
17.01.2022 From our family to yours! Merry Christmas
17.01.2022 The Victorian fire season is on its way and to make our job easier and safer, we need you all to do the right thing! That means wearing a mask, obeying social distancing rules, staying home and only leaving for essential items! By doing this and driving down case numbers, firefighters can have the confidence and higher level of safety when tackling large scale fires. We’re so close to turning the tide of this second wave! Let’s keep it up so we can all get back to a little bit of normality sooner.
16.01.2022 PLEASE NOTE: FUEL REDUCTION BURN PLANNED FOR THIS WEEK (Weather permitting)
16.01.2022 NSW PREMIERS BUSHFIRE EMERGENCY CITATION AWARD: FFs Brody White, Jason Earl, Matthew Ryan and Steve Gormley have recieved this award for their efforts in firefighting operations throughout NSW in 2019 where they experienced one of the worst fire seasons in history. It’s not for the awards, it’s for helping out our fellow Australians in times of need!
16.01.2022 Don’t be the stupid one! Save emergency services for real emergencies not selfish acts of amusement! Let’s all enjoy a small quiet gathering and do the right thing! Illegal fireworks= fire and police response
16.01.2022 Fire Danger Rating for Saturday December 5th is High, strong winds and storms are likely to create dangerous conditions for burning off! If you have been doing any burn offs today make sure they are completely out before tomorrow! Remember DO NOT BURN OFF TOMORROW!
15.01.2022 WE ARE NOT A PUBLIC CARPARK: Another reminder we have limited car parking and it is intended for the use of firefighters attending 000 calls. There is plenty of parking at the market site and opposite the general store for the public.
15.01.2022 FUN FACT THURSDAY: St. Andrews tanker 1 is a 3.4D tanker of unusual design. It is fully Brigade owned and is due for decommissioning in 7 months. It was purchased by the brigade in 2001 replacing the former brigade owned tanker that was at the time deemed unsuitable for continued service due to age and design. The truck brought through extensive fundraising was to have a few oddities to most tankers at the time. The rear of the truck was partially from the 1980s, a bit from the 90s and a bit from 2000s, it was part of a pilot to reuse old tanker backs that at the time were still in service. It has served the brigade well for nearly 20 years and will be missed when replaced but we are looking forward to something a bit more modern!
15.01.2022 Everyone in Victoria who lives near dense forest, bush, grassland or the coast needs to prepare their property for bushfire. Below are some tips from Captain Ko...ala on preparing your property: Roof gutters - Keep gutters and roof areas clear of leaf litter. Leaf litter in guttering is a ember ignition point. Keep grass short - Keep grass cut to less than 10cm. Fire can ignite and travel quickly through long grass. Mowing and slashing can greatly reduce fine fuel levels. Leaves and Twigs - Get rid of dry grass, leaves, twigs and loose bark. Less fuel = less fire. Prune shrubs -Prune lower branches of shrubs to separate from surface fuels underneath. Prune shrubs well away from branches of mature trees. Cut back branches - Cut back overhanging tree branches close to property no branches in 10m space. For more information on preparing your property please see here: https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare #CKDoesSummerPreparation #LessFuelEqualsLessFire #PlanAndPrepare #CleanUpBeforeABushfireDoes
14.01.2022 FIRE RESTRICTIONS ARE ON THEIR WAY! WE WILL ADVERTISE AS WIDELY AS POSSIBLE.
12.01.2022 As we start to venture out more, it is important to remember you are not the only one on the roads, speed limits, road traffic signs/ signals and line markings are all there for a reason. Stay safe on the roads!
10.01.2022 The girls getting the tanker ready for Christmas!
10.01.2022 Today crews from St. Andrews CFA and Panton Hill CFA assisted DELWP PortPhillip with a fuel reduction and ecological burn in St. Andrews, a great example of cross tenure burning and rural Victoria’s two major fire management agencies working as one! FFMV and CFA crews will be patrolling around the clock for the next few days, give them a wave if you see them! These operations adhere to strict COVID guidelines. Regards Matt ... CFA (Country Fire Authority) DELWP Port Phillip
09.01.2022 What’s your fire plan for animals on days where your trigger is met?
09.01.2022 NOT SO FUN FACT THURSDAY: This year our turn outs are well down on previous years and that is fantastic, a lot of calls have either been false alarms or car accidents caused by poor driving and speed. Although there are a lot of cars not on the road at the moment, that doesn’t mean we become complacent and ignore speed limits and road markings, we don’t enjoy responding to car accidents! Please remember that you’re not the only driver on the road and we all want to get home safe! Next week we will return to fun fact Thursday for all the fire truck buffs!
09.01.2022 Thanks to the generous nature of you all in times of disaster, we have been successful in receiving funds for an additional 4 truck licenses! The additional drivers will bolster our already strong team and ensure time efficient response when required.
09.01.2022 FIRE RESTRICTIONS START ON MONDAY 14/12/2020 AT 01:00 ENSURE YOUR BURN OFFS ARE FULLY EXTINGUISHED SUNDAY NIGHT. ALWAYS REGISTER YOUR BURN OFFS USING THE LINK BELOW ... https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/contact/register-your-burn-off
08.01.2022 CFA crews from St Andrews and Hurstbridge Fire Brigade along with our agency partners Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police attended a two vehicle collision tonight on the Heidelberg-Kinglake Rd. The quick response from all agencies ensured patients were assessed quickly and we were able to open the road in a timely manner. Rescue crews from Plenty Fire Brigade were paged but we’re not required as there were no persons trapped. COVID has not stopped the great response of members! We are well placed for all emergencies!
08.01.2022 HI ALL PLEASE NOTE:
08.01.2022 The Fire Danger Period Starts Monday 14/12/2020 at 01:00HRS Keep informed and communicate with neighbours, friends and families so they are aware and you are aware of each others fire plan!
06.01.2022 This burn is expected to be conducted in the next 24hrs by FFMV
05.01.2022 This weekend marked the resumption of pre season skills maintenance and annual endorsements for our firefighters. You will see us more as we are only permitted to train outdoors as stipulated by the CMO of Victoria and following strict guidelines as set out in our covid safe plan. If you see us, give us a wave as we prepare to support Victoria this fire season!
05.01.2022 Understanding Warnings and Emergency Information You should never wait to receive an official warning before you leave. Fires can start quickly and threaten homes and lives within minutes. Understand the levels of warnings and don’t expect warnings to be issues in any particular order. The first warning you could get could be an Emergency Warning.... https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrict/about-warnings
05.01.2022 As we resume very limited skills maintenance training with strict restrictions in place around them, we will be using public places outdoors as we are not allowed indoors as part of our covid safe plan. So give us a distant wave if you see us! Unfortunately the fire station is strictly restricted access and not open to the public. Our service is unchanged however... you ring 000 for fire brigade assistance and were there!! ... Stay safe and do the right thing so we can get back on track and rebuild!
04.01.2022 This years Community engagement and fire safety talks will be a bit different as they will be delivered online. I encourage everyone to hop online for this fire safety essentials session! Where: Zoom When: Tuesday 15th December 2020 Time: 7:30pm ... Links and registration in the link below.
03.01.2022 Warmer weather means the fire seasons not far away....
02.01.2022 Today a crew from St. Andrews went bush (well we are always in the bush here!) to conduct some refresher training in what is known as step up a term used to describe how crews create containment lines using hand tools. We also conducted a drill in draughting, in under 2 minutes we had set up and delivered water, to those not in St. Andrews, we have no mains water and rely on creeks, dams, swimming pools and tanks for water during a fire. CFA (Country Fire Authority)
02.01.2022 SAFE: GRASS AND SCRUB FIRE SMITHS GULLY. Early this morning, crews from St. Andrews and Panton Hill CFA attended a small grassfire ignited by a rouge electrical wire brought down by trees. Crews were on scene quickly to extinguish the fires for power company crews on scene. Ladders were required to access the steep site off the road below. With FDR of Highs today and yesterday it is a signal that the weather is warming up and fires will move through drying landscapes.
01.01.2022 The Fire Danger Period is commencing in Nillumbik at 1:00am on Monday 14th December 2020 and will remain in place until 1 May 2021 unless stated otherwise. The commencement of the Fire Danger Period is determined on existing and predicted conditions that lead to increased fire risk to your location.
