All students and teachers attended the service as well as the Consul of Greece, Mrs Georgia Karasiotou. His Grace reminded the students that the Apostle Andrew is not only the Patron Saint of St Andrew’s Grammar but also the Patron Saint of our Theological College in Sydney and the Founder of the Mother Church in Constantinople. His Grace asked everyone to remember in their prayers the Ecumenical Patriarchate as well as Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and reminded all of the historical visit that His All-Holiness made to St Andrew’s Grammar in November 1996. Following His Grace’s words, students came forward and recited passages relating to the life of St Andrew, the First called Apostle.

13.01.2022 What a Week it HASS Been! HASS Week started off last week with a Year 7-12 House Quiz on all things HASS related. From naming the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World though to knowing the names of all the American States, the students competed in their House group to claim bragging rights for having the broadest Humanities knowledge, with Demeter House taking out the winning place. Our Year 7s, who have currently been studying Ancient Greek History, spent a delicious less...on decorating biscuits in the form of Greek battle shields, while our Year 8s enjoyed a workshop with Mrs Trevisan learning how to apply medieval make up and Black Plague boils, many of which turned out quite life-like and disgusting! Our Year 9s along with our HOPE Club planted seedlings during the week to coincide with the Sustainability content from their Geography course. They then built upon this by watching the documentary 2040 to reinforce the Sustainability message. For our Senior School, aside from involvement in the House Quiz, there are guest speakers planned for our Year 10’s to enlighten them about future pathways in HASS and the Year 11 and 12 Geography students are looking forward to excursions later this month to the Swan Valley and also Perth City. It was an exciting week and there are plans for an even bigger and better week in 2021.

08.01.2022 Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Repose of Saint Nektarios in WA The faithful of Perth commemorated the 100th anniversary of the repose of Saint Nekta...rios, bishop of Pentapolis, at the Church of Saint Nektarios on Monday the 9th of November. The liturgical celebrations commenced with the Hierarchical Vespers Service on the eve of the feast and continued the following day with the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy presided by His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyaneon. In His sermon, His Grace emphasised how Saint Nektarios was constantly being persecuted and falsely accused by both clergy and laity who were envious of him. However Saint Nektarios never stopped showing love and forgiveness to those who slandered him and never lost his personal peace. The Greek Consul in Perth, Mrs Georgia Karasiotis, and the Principal, staff and students of St Andrew’s Grammar together with parishioners from all the parishes in Perth came together to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the repose of St Nektarios. At the conclusion of the service a procession of the icon and relics of the saint also took place inside the church. Finally His Grace passed on to all the blessing and love of Archbishop Makarios. The official luncheon for the feast day of St Nektarios will be taking place on Sunday 15 November which happens to also be the first day of the 40 day Christmas Lenten Fast.

Learn what to say when listening with an open mind Learn what to say when encouraging action Learn what to say when checking in Learn how to continue a conversation that could change a life. 02.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK The theme for this years NAIDOC week is Always Was, Always will be. Always Was, Always Will Be recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.... Although, NAIDOC Week was delayed until November due to C-19, our Year 12 Service Prefect Rediat, who finished up her school in October, felt very strongly about introducing a NAIDOC celebration at St. Andrew's to recognise and celebrate Australia's First peoples late last Term. The senior students engaged in a range of art activities with the primary school, including rock art painting, boomerang painting and paper plate snake paintings. We were also fortunate to have two youth Advocates from the City of Stirling make NAIDOC week bracelets and boomerang scratchies in the undercover area during one morning and into lunch. Rhys Paddick, the City of Stirling Youth Development officer - Aboriginal, came to speak with the year 7, 8's and 9's with artefacts and entertaining stories. Last Friday, we invited Olman from the Boorloo Cultural Experiences, to entertain and educate the whole school at an assembly about Aboriginal artefacts and dreamtime stories. All the speakers have been highly engaging and entertaining. We still have further activities this week for the official NAIDOC Week, Including a fabric mural of Australia where every student and staff member at our school will be able to put a handprint onto the mural to symbolise our connection with this land.
