25.01.2022 Something beautiful is happening just in time for Remembrance Day. Stay tuned... #SAWMH #RemembranceDay

25.01.2022 A range of activities have been planned across St Andrew’s for both our staff and patients during #MentalHealthWeek including lunchtime talks from our Dietitians around Nutrition and Shift Work and Mindful Eating. Queensland’s Mental Health Week theme of 'Take time for Mental Health' has never been more important - have you taken time for your mental health yet? Pictured is Nina (Workplace Health & Safety Advisor) and Shannon and Jana (Dietitians) at today’s talk #SAWMH #QMHW #QMHWTakeTime

17.01.2022 During #SafeWorkMonth we asked our staff how they unwind and de-stress and Nina (and friend) from WH&S said the answers are as varied as you could imagine! This year’s theme ‘Work Health and Safety through COVID-19’ acknowledges the wide-reaching impacts of COVID-19 on businesses, employers and workers. It’s not just about physical health but mental health too. #SAWMH #safeworkmonth #safetytogether #safetymatters

17.01.2022 There's no doubt who Orthopaedic Surgeon A/Prof Patrick Weinrauch is cheering for in tonight's State of Origin opener! Queenslander!! #SAWMH #origin

17.01.2022 ‘Take Time for Mental Health’ as part of Queensland Mental Health Week, our Chaplains with help from Food Services, will be delivering mindful colouring in sheets and pencils to our patients on their meal trays. Mindful colouring can be a powerful stress relieving tool and can provide a much-needed break and the chance to relax, refocus and be more present. It can also help lift your mood and decrease anxiety. #SAWMH #QMHW #QMHWTakeTime

14.01.2022 Operating Theatre Anaesthetics Nurse Shane Brown jokes that what he does can be compared to a plane flight pre-flight checks, take off, cruising in flight and landing but the reality is far more complex. We sometimes forget the privilege of meeting patients who entrust their lives to us in theatre they are 100% vulnerable. In the Year of the Nurse, read Shane’s story. #YOTN #SAWMH

12.01.2022 Thank you to our volunteer Jennifer for the recent donation of knitted blankets from The Knitters Friendship Group. They will be donated to a local women's refuge and we hope that recipients feel the love that's been put into knitting these beautiful blankets. #SAWMH

11.01.2022 We’re proud to respectfully rehome approximately 3500 poppies from the 5000 Poppies project just in time for #RemembranceDay. Read more about the poppy journey to St Andrew’s: https://standrews.ph/Poppies #WeWillRememberThem #LestWeForget

11.01.2022 A mastectomy can be a life-saving treatment for women with breast cancer. However, there are advanced reconstructive options post-surgery. In this video, Breast and Endocrine Surgeon Dr Ben Green talks about what’s involved when undergoing a mastectomy, the recovery process and reconstruction options available to women with breast cancer. #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth

11.01.2022 The St Andrew’s Gala the highlight on our social calendar would have been held around this time but unfortunately, due to the pandemic, couldn’t happen this year. The Gala brings our community together to celebrate the year that was. Never fear today’s #FlashbackFriday is a snapshot of past events. #SAWMH

10.01.2022 The Turrbal and Jagera people are the traditional custodians of the land St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital is situated on and we pay our respects to Elders, past, present and emerging. This year’s NAIDOC Week recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for more than 65,000 years and acknowledges the spiritual and cultural connection to this country. Always Was, Always Will Be. #NAIDOC2020 #SAWMH

09.01.2022 As we reflect on the World Health Organisation's #YearoftheNurse, we speak to Breast Care Nurse Sophie Peckham and Nurse Practitioner in Breast Oncology Natasha Keir about what brought them to our hospital and how they support our patients and families. #SAWMH #YOTN #breastcancerawarenessmonth

08.01.2022 Did you know malnutrition can increase a patient’s risk of infection and ultimately increase their stay in hospital? During Malnutrition Week, we acknowledge the importance of screening and monitoring a patient’s nutritional status in hospital to assist in improving patient outcomes. At St Andrew’s, the Malnutrition Screening Tool is used at admission to identify those at risk. Once identified, patients are assessed by Dietitians like Pam and Shannon who provide appropriate nutrition support. #SAWMH #MalnutritionWeekANZ

04.01.2022 We have missed our Volunteers and Auxiliary this year and their fabulous fundraising activities (and the bagpipes synonymous with every special St Andrew’s occasion!). #FlashbackFriday to one of their more fascinating initiatives who ate the haggis? (image circa early 1950s) #SAWMH
