25.01.2022 Stand Up's new logo.
23.01.2022 Hey! Our ad is in the The Australian Jewish News! If you've got non-perishable food (spare Glicks challah from Shabbat and packets of unused celebratory doughnuts for our 14th day of 0 cases not accepted) then drop it off on Sunday at Stand Up and Foodfilled's joint food rescue effort in Elsternwick.
23.01.2022 Here's Benj from FoodFilled, a food rescue organisation that Stand Up are partnering with this Sunday for Mitzvah Day. If you have any excess, non-perishable food items bring them down to the Foodfilled hub in Selwyn Street, Elsternwick this Sunday from 11-2 and we'll make sure they go to those in need!
22.01.2022 A great meeting between Stand Up and Archangelo from Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) to hear about the important work he and his team are doing with refugee communities and to discuss our shared interest in helping refugee communities overcome structural disadvantage. Exciting things to come, so watch this space
19.01.2022 This week is NAIDOC week, where we come together to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year, the theme is 'Always Was, Always Will Be', representing the spiritual and cultural connection to this country Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first sci...entists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. We not only have so much to learn from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, but we owe them so much as well. At Stand Up, we have worked for 15 years to forge unbreakable friendships with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander partner communities. We have created deep ties between the Jewish community (or Jewish mob, as our friends on community call us) and the people of Toomelah and Boggabillalearning, laughing and growing together in friendship and partnership. Just last week, we celebrated this 15 year anniversary in style, despite the restrictions. At Stand Up, we'll continue our unique partnership with our friends in Toomelah and Boggabilla and build on that by expanding our work to further the cause of justice and reconciliation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. (The poster below is the 2020 National NAIDOC Poster Shape of Land, by Noongar and Saibai Islander man Tyrown Waigana. Tyrown’s artwork tells the story of how the Rainbow Serpent came out of the Dreamtime to create this land.)
18.01.2022 This Mitzvah Day Australia is going to be different to what we're used to. So we're teaming up with Food Filled to power their work in a COVID-safe way by helping them distributing food to charities in need. Can you do a mitzvah and help us out by dropping off non-perishable food to the Food Filled hub next Sunday?
17.01.2022 Stand Up mourns the loss of Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, a true moral leader for Jewish communities all around the world. Rabbi Sacks reminded us that the most important consideration of social justice work is not how much we give, but how we give. He taught us that upholding the dignity and respect of the recipients of our work is the most righteous way to pursue justice in our world.
17.01.2022 We're proud to be part of this campaign, calling on the government to release refugees in immigration detention and to commit to a pathway for their resettlement. After 7 years, it's time to release the hundreds of people in detention right now. It's time for a home. Click through to join the campaign now.
14.01.2022 Boxes and boxes of food, all going to charity this Mitzvah Day! Thanks everyone
14.01.2022 The whole squad, featuring our new General Manager (and a vibrant rubber plant), having a team meeting yesterday! Talking about how we can continue to realise a just Australia for everyone with our active existing programs, our soon to be re-activated existing programs and the new ones that are on the way!
10.01.2022 This is a historic moment. William Cooper and his grandson Uncle Alfred "Boydie" Turner are a source of eternal inspiration to Stand Up, and Stand Up and now Mount Scopus College forged strong connections with the Yorta Yorta community through our work. May the work, words and legacy of William Cooper and his people continue to grow and inspire us all!
09.01.2022 It's been a tough year. Here's hoping that the festival of light and hope inspires us to make 2021 a whole lot better than 2020. Happy Channukah!
08.01.2022 Stand Up has had a special connection with Aunty Madge for so many years. A tireless advocate, educator and trailblazer. We're in awe! #Alwayswasalwayswillbe

06.01.2022 At Stand Up's Women's Group program, women gathered together each week, from different cultures and religions, to learn and grow together. We are continuing the incredible legacy of the Women's group by creating a new (and COVID-safe) way of facilitating this connection through our new program: Our Journey. We'll start by bringing together women from the Melbourne Sudanese refugee and Jewish communities to form one-on-one partnerships. By fostering personal partnerships, wo...men can focus on areas of development that are specific to their particular needs. Together, we'll help tackle the social issues experienced by Sudanese women in Melbourne by creating meaningful partnerships based on mutual support and allyship and we'll continue to forge enduring, meaningful bonds where everyone learns from each other. Please follow this link (https://www.standup.org.au/our_journey) to register an expression of interest to be involved in this opportunity. We encourage you to share this information and the sign up link with anyone you believe could be interested in volunteering or participating in ‘Our Journey’.

04.01.2022 Our vision is for the Jewish community to realise a just Australia where everyone has the opportunity to thriveunconstrained by systems and attitudes that entrench disadvantage. We’ve got a long way to go but we’re in it for the long haul
02.01.2022 This weekend Stand Up is heading up to Toomelah and Boggabilla for what we call a 'mini-trip'. Here's what that's all about: At Stand Up, we have forged an enduring relationship with the Aboriginal communities of Toomelah and Boggabilla that is over 15 years old. Every year, we run structured programs in partnership with these communities that are designed to facilitate leadership, vocational and educational opportunities for people in the community, as well as fun and engagi...ng games for younger members of the community during the school holidays. COVID-19 has made our work difficult this year. But we're so excited to be heading out to community now to reconnect with our friends, plan for the year ahead and renew the strength of our partnership. Shabbat Shalom from Yvie, Avia and Ashon behalf of Stand Up
