21.01.2022 A flash back to our funicular ride at Lake Como. Hope you are not all too jet lagged. The weather is still amazing here guys

20.01.2022 Day 10 Exploring Rome and the last supper Our second last day in Rome has been a bit more leisurely which has been good for everyone. We started with a sleep in, then off to St Clements Basilica near the Colosseum for Mass in English. I have included an image of the Basilica and how stunning it is. It is in top of two other churches and pope /St clement is buried there. The mosaic in dome above altar is amazing. An Irish priest - said mass in English - in An Italian Church. A...ll a bit funny really. The church isn’t anything spectacular from outside but inside it’s amazing!! After mass we walked past Colosseum to catch Metro into Spanish Steps and explore Rome. The Spanish Steps were hugely crowded and the kids couldn’t get on them. They then moved onto the Trevi fountain, made their wish and threw coin in over their shoulder. I do hope they all return someday. I know it has worked for me !! After exploring these two landmarks they had free time to explore Rome further and check out the shops. When they returned back to hotel, we got students to start organising their suitcases and pack up. I can’t believe the trip is coming to an end. On the way back from Church today there were conversations about not wanting to go home yet. They wanted to stay and explore Italy further. I think though, they will be happy to get home to their families. Finally, we shared the last supper at a pizzeria not far from our hotel. It was a fun night and the food good. 1 large margerhita each proved challenging for quite a few to eat. Tomorrow will be an exciting way to finish our tour as we have a cooking lesson with my favourite chef Andrea Consoli. I wonder what he has in stall for us?? Parents you will be able to cook whatever we do as he provides receipes. After we indulge in the three course fruits of our labour, we will go into city and see Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. Then back to hotel to freshen up for the long haul home. Stay tuned....

14.01.2022 Day 9 Pompeii I was going to be cocky and brag about how we have managed to dodge rain and bad weather on this trip until tonight... our restaurant was quite a distance from hotel so we decided to catch metro then walk the other 900 hundred metres. However, when we were exiting the subway there was a deluge of water running down the steps and we knew then it was heavy rain and it was. We waited thinking it might subside but it didn’t. So we walked to dinner in the pouring rai...Continue reading

12.01.2022 Day 11 E’ finito Our last day in Italy but a great way to end our stay. Firstly , the weather was perfect and quite warm.... We set off on our first trip on a public bus this morning. We all decided we prefer the metro! It was so squashy. We set out for our cooking class at Trastevere with chef Andrea Consoli and his lovely wife Erica. We found it ok and so began a morning of fun and cooking Roman style. Some students made the pasta using a ‘guitar’ style implement which cuts the dough into pasta. Some peeled, cut and processed the carrot, celery and onion. Others cut , blanched, puréed and cooked the tomatoes. Andrea entertained the students continually. It was quite theatrical!!! You will see our menu and the fruits of our labour. It was our best meal and what a great way to complete our trip to Italy. The cherry/ custard tart we made was Eddies birthday cake which we cut and shared. Happy birthday to Eddie who will celebrate his birthday in the air on the way home. We said goodbye and thank you to Andrea & Erica then headed into the Piazza Navona and Pantheon. Then back into the main part of Rome for some last minute shopping and free time. Everyone caught the metro back to Termini for the last time and freshened up at hotel before collecting their luggage and departing on the bus for Fiumicino Airport. Ella and I said good bye to everyone as we are staying on. A huge thank you to Mrs Sutherland and Mr Tait got all their help and support on the trip. It has been a terrific trip and above all our students have been excellent ambassadors for our school. Thank you Tania and her team at Temora Teavel for all their assistance in planning this amazing and very successful trip. Lots of memories have been made and I’m sure this trip has ignited the travel spark in quite a few students. Finally, thank you to the parents who made this trip possible by entrusting their children to us. We understand that sending your child on the other side of the world is hard but you knew you wanted them to have this opportunity. I know they are very grateful for this opportunity and I’m sure they will let you know when you see them at the arrivals gate on Wednesday morning. Safe travels students and teachers. See you when I return in term 4 and I look forward to the night we present our tour to our families and teachers. I hope you aren’t too jet lagged when you get home. Mrs Scott

09.01.2022 Day 8 A Colossal Day!! This morning we started early with a bus drive to Vatican Museums. Our tour guide Simone(Simon) met us there . The amount of people lining up was incredible. Mr Tait didn’t pass security check as his back pack was too big. So they kept back pack and let him in. There is so much to take in at the Vatican. The Sistine Chapel was amazing as per usual. Simone showed us a photo of how they set up the two chimneys in the Sistine Chapel when voting for a new P...ope to be elected. The grandeur of St Peters Basilica followed. First we saw the Pieta by Michaelangelo. I think the students were more interested in how the Pieta was attacked in the early part of this century rather than it’s artistical value The students didn’t believe Simone or myself when they saw the embalmed bodies of the popes in Glass cases in Basilica. One of the Popes was removed from the Basilica in June/ July this year And sent back to his home town for a special festival. Due to the heat this summer, the wax covering his face had melted. Most of the students climbed the Basilica dome which overlooks all of St Peters square and Rome. It was an amazing view and a lot of steps. It is the biggest dome in the world. Then onto the Colosseum for tour with none other than Mrs Scott. You can’t really appreciate the magnitude of this building till you are in and around it. By the time we had visited Colosseum everyone was tired and we came back via the metro which was first time for students on the metro. All went smoothly. We are off to bed so we can get up and bevreadt for our long journey down to Pompeii. We managed to escape the rain today but it is pouring outside tonight. I wish I could send the rain back home to Temora. We are off to Pompeii tomorrow for the day. Hopefully it won’t rain on us. Buonaotte( good night)
