17.01.2022 Construction update The new rooms above the Kennedy Brooks Enterprise Deck are coming along nicely and are on track to finish in August this year. The lucky students who will occupy these rooms in the years to come will surely have the best views in the college and possibly in North Adelaide!

16.01.2022 Last night despite the COVID-19 challenges, we were lucky enough to have three special guest speakers for the Mentoring Dinner organised by the St Anns Collegians Association. Chelise Kappe (St Anns Collegian 2016-2017), who moved from Broken Hill to Adelaide to study for her dream career as a Paediatric Nurse, Tim Grove-Jones (St Anns Collegian 2010-2012), a Medical Registrar in Darwin, and Ben McInnes (St Anns Collegian 2010-2012), the STEM Coordinator at Stirling Nort...h Primary School. This special Zoom meeting provided students with the opportunity to ask questions of former Anns students about how they secured their first placements and jobs. Our guest speakers also gave us their insight into life and work after St Anns College. #mentoringdinner #stannscollegians #stannscollege #universityofadelaide #unisa #southaustralia #universitystudent

13.01.2022 Last night we welcomed the inspirational Lainie Anderson to speak to students at the last of our weekly formal dinners this year. Lainie talked about her 30 years in media and journalism, including stints at the Times of London, Melbourne’s Herald Sun and currently as a Sunday Mail columnist. Last year she published Long Flight Home a fictional retelling of the famous 1919 Air Race, where South Australia’s Smith brothers won the race to fly from England to Australia in their Vickers Vimy aircraft. She also co-produced a TV documentary The Greatest Air Race broadcast on SBS. Thanks to Lainie for sharing her hilarious tales and infectious energy with the students!

11.01.2022 As many of you will be aware, we are building new student accommodation on top of the Kennedy Brooks Enterprise Deck. As a result of the major construction work taking place at St Anns College we have decided to postpone our annual Open Show until further notice. We are hoping to be able to open the doors of College later in the year to showcase these new rooms and show you some of the other major improvements we have made to the college.

11.01.2022 More construction news 50 cubic meters of concrete was poured today to create the second floor of the student accommodation atop the Kennedy Brooks Enterprise Deck and the team at Chappell Builders are on track to put the roof on tomorrow. Such exciting times here at the moment!

08.01.2022 Yesterday was Founders Day, an annual event where we recognise the generous contribution made by the founders of St Anns College, as well as our current benefactors. The commemoration began with the traditional laying of a wreath at the grave of Sir Josiah Symon and reciting of a poem. His progressive outlook for equal access to education for women as well as men contributed to the founding of the college in 1947. A Thanksgiving Service at Brougham Place Uniting Church was followed by a formal dinner at College and a concert performance from the students.

08.01.2022 Construction Update The entire roof area of the student accommodation atop the Kennedy Brooks Enterprise Deck has now been sheeted with only some gutters and flashings yet to install. The third floor was finally poured and all temporary protection has now been removed. The Chappell Builders team is currently cladding the external walls of the building and the internal walls are going up soon. Its so exciting to see it all taking place so quickly! And check out the views, they are spectacular

08.01.2022 Only a few weeks ago we were dancing much closer than 1.5 meters from each other, crazy how fast things can change in this world! We are continuing to keep the positive energy flowing around the College in every way we can in these unprecedented times

08.01.2022 Tonight our staff and Tutor Team are completing CPR training at the College. Thank you to Samantha from St John Ambulance for passing on these highly valuable skills!

07.01.2022 On Saturday we held our 2020 Valedictory Dinner, a special event for all our students where they get to let their hair down before exams. It’s also a chance to bid a formal farewell to those who are leaving the College at the end of the year. Thanks to the College Club for their excellent organisation, the various students who shared inspirational and moving speeches at the dinner, and of course, for everyone for their hugely creative and entertaining costumes!

07.01.2022 Last week we hosted our 2020 awards nights - where students received awards for various achievements - from numerous sporting accolades through to performing arts and even the traditional 'Happy Happy Joy Joy' award! Congratulations!

03.01.2022 In an interview with @insiderguidesau , Dr Kim Barbour gave her tips on how best to study online during the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe our students could benefit greatly from what she had to say! Set a regular schedule for your study days Having a routine in place of when youre going to do each task (readings, online lectures, discussion activities and assignments) means you can plan and prepare enough time each day to complete everything. Take breaks away from your scr...een Online learning requires a lot of screen time so giving your eyes a break is essential. Read a physical book, make a snack or pat your dog, anything that get you up and away from your screen and desk so that when you come back, youre fresh and ready to go. Write notes by hand Taking written notes rather than typed ones helps embed the information in your brain in a different way. If you do need to type your notes, do it on a different device if you can. Also, try not to just copy the information, write it in your own words and remember you can pause and rewind pre-recorded lectures. Create a space just for study Set up a desk or table with your device, notebooks, pretty pens and highlighters to make a place just for studying. Its recommended not to use your bed so that you can differentiate between your sleeping space for relaxing and your study space for productivity. Be healthy physically, mentally and food wise Try to get some exercise, whether its a YouTube workout, a yoga app or walking the dog. Look after yourself, its a scary and frustrating time. Talk to someone if you need to and know that we will get through this. Make sure that the food youre putting into your body is good fuel that will get you through a solid study session. Make time for yourself Even if it feels like theres a lot of study to do make time for a break. Set a time to watch a movie, talk to your family or do some self-care. Talk to friends Social distancing doesnt mean no social contact; we just need to find different ways to connect! Create a group chat with people in your class or have your own Zoom sessions between friends. Chances are they would also love a virtual catch up! https://insiderguides.com.au/studying-online-coronavirus/

01.01.2022 Our new Senior Tutors for 2021, Bella-Louise Hunyadi and Nelson Hayes appeared in this week's The Murray Pioneer discussing their new appointment. Bella comments, I want to ensure every student who resides at St Ann's College feels as though they can call this place home," while Nelson adds, St Ann’s is a place I believe is important because of how it aids rural communities, making it easier for students to transition into the city lifestyle as they pursue their academic careers."
