12.01.2022 LOCAL FACES LOCAL PLACES // Travel tips straight from the locals, with special insights (and maybe some secrets) into the best places to explore and things to do in our region. The range of natural produce in the Southern Downs and Granite Belt is a major drawcard to visitors according to Country Farm Fresh Mushroom boss Neil Newman. I think most people from the coast would be shocked to see the diversity of agricultural businesses across the length and breadth of th...e Southern Downs. From major organisations to small business, there’s not a lot that isn’t covered and the food and produce from this region services the whole state and beyond. From the corn that makes your cornflakes to strawberries, stone fruit, potatoes, mushrooms, grapes, wheat and barley, sunflowers, the list goes on and on. Best kept secret My family’s favourite spot is the Junction at Girraween National Park. The perfect spot to cool off on a hot summer’s day. Then follow that up with dinner at the Barrel Room at Ballandean Estate Wines. PS: Keep an eye out for our new Food Trail maps, coming soon! @sqc #travelforgood #thisisqueensland #foodtrailsofqld #goodtogo

11.01.2022 LOCAL FACES LOCAL PLACES // Travel tips straight from the locals, with special insights (and maybe some secrets) into the best places to explore and things to do in our region. For Melissa Thomas, owner and formulator at Washpool - Skin Wellness, the peace and quiet of the Southern Downs and Granite Belt is the perfect antidote to life in the city.... I have witnessed the deep peace that seems to wash over people when they leave the city behind and get far enough away to feel they're no longer 'on call'. With wide open spaces, gorgeous landscapes and plenty of room to move around, you get perspective on the turbulence of your day to day life. This is the gift the Southern Downs and Granite Belt gives - as much calm as you need. Best Kept Secret: Connecting to where our produce comes from and the makers behind those goods. It's knowing farmers are out the back literally pressing apples.... that there are people bringing artisan products to curious, appreciative visitors; mixing salts, botanicals, oils and butters with deft, experienced hands to make naturally good, clean products. For me - it's the artisans, the makers, the connection between raw materials and finished products made with love. Southern Queensland Country - SQC #goodtogo #travelforgood #thisisqueensland

With drive holidays more popular than ever to our region which is so close to Brisbane and the Gold Coast, we got the lowdown from local automotive dealer David Cassels, of Cassels Automotive in Warwick. "We are right on the doorstep of the state’s coastal regions, and right next door to Brisbane, so we’re perfect for an overnight getaway! With... tonnes to do, from waterfalls, wineries and architecture, the region is best explored by car just jump in and drive. We’ve been here for a few years now, but we’re still uncovering great things to see and do! " David's secret gem: Take the time to experience all the little businesses! 02.01.2022 HAVE A HANKERING FOR HISTORY? // If, like us you love visiting old historic sites and structures, then put this bridge on your next road trip agenda! The railway bridge known as "Red Bridge", originally painted red, is now white. Built between 1885 and 1888 the work carried out to build this bridge was done with manpower and horse-drawn drays. Many who came to work on the bridge stayed in the region to become farmers. A great spot to walk to with a picnic and take photos,... especially when the sun is setting in the backround! Just 5km out of Stanthorpe, park at the Stanthorpe Visitor Information Centre and ask for directions for walking from there, or park closer at the small parking lot where Rose St meets Anzac St at Heritage Park. Follow the creekside pathway from there, following in the direction away from the town centre and it leads straight to the ‘Red’ Bridge.
