25.01.2022 What a fantastic excursion today to the Wollongong Botanical Gardens. A great big thank you to Jade and Penny for the fun and educational experience they provided for the children. We learnt all about wriggly worms and worm farming and were so lucky to see birds, nests, insects, eels and interesting gardens and plants. We learnt so much and had a great day. Can't wait to see where the learning progresses to with the children.
25.01.2022 Some more great photo of our excursion to Country Valley Farm working dairy.
24.01.2022 What amazing environmental enthusiasts we have at Stanwell Park Preschool. Our day was spent cleaning up our local bush tracks around our preschool for clean up Australia school day. Well done Stanwell Park Community our environment is amazing and fairly rubbish free. Let’s keep up the good work together as a community and educate our children about the impact of our actions.
24.01.2022 It is with absolute pleasure that I let everyone know that one of our most valued educators Aidan, won Tafe trainee of the year. Not only did he go up against childcare nominees, he was also up against all of the other industries Tafe teaches, so extra special to receive such an amazing award. We are so proud of you and feel very lucky that you choose our team to work with everyday. The children, staff and families are very lucky to have you in their lives. Well done Aidan you are amazing and have a great career ahead of you. Xxx
24.01.2022 Today we had two special guests at preschool. Vicki and her dog Tayo from the Living Safely with Dogs safety program visited to teach us how to be safe around dogs when we are at home or out and about in community. Through songs and dance the children were able to recognise how to be self aware of dog behaviours and methods for them to keep themselves safe. Such a valuable resource to have in our community.

23.01.2022 Abbey and I attended the Reconciliation Conference -Walking Together - A Journey towards appreciation, respect and action today. What an amazing journey toward cultural competence and understanding. Thank you to Tracey Kirk-Downey at Wollongong council for organising an amazing event.
23.01.2022 Today at the library story time we had lots of stories about bears. We looked at colours and did some dancing. We love story time at the library.
22.01.2022 What an excitingly fun few weeks we have had at Stanwell Park Preschool. We have visited our local Hindu Temple, participated in outdoor classroom day and listened to story time at the library.

21.01.2022 Yesterday we participated in Clean up Australia Day. The children went out into Country and spent the morning looking after our beautiful surrounding environment. During this excursion some of the children spoke about rubbish blowing into the ocean where sea creatures could eat it and die. Children being aware of their impact on the environment from such an early age creates a future society which will actively look after our planet and make sustainable changes accordingly. These amazing children give me such hope for the future.
21.01.2022 Friday’s recycling excursion. At Stanwell Park Preschool we make sustainability a part of our everyday lives. Here the children have collected items to be recycled and we are taking them to the collection point. Can’t wait for them to introduce the bottle recycle here in Stanwell Park soon.
21.01.2022 Free those feet!
21.01.2022 Spectacular view from our outdoor learning environment this afternoon.
21.01.2022 What an amazing excursion to Dharawal National Park. What expected to be a 2 hour excursion turned into a 4 hour one, as the children were so engrossed in the journey on the way to Maddens fall lookout. We had lots of discussions about our local flora and fauna and calculated thoughts about the water falling at the falls. Many questions and theories discussed between the children about the world and how they fit in it. I am loving the way the children are hypothesising about ... the possibilities of where the water has come from and where it is going. We also wondered how the water got into our taps so we had beautiful fresh water to drink. We left the excursion with more questions to ponder than we came with. Teaching and allowing children the time to ‘think’ and discuss their own possibilities and ideas, facilitates their learning in the best possible way. It reminds me of a quote I once heard - Show me, and I forget Teach me and I will remember Involve me and I will learn. Benjamin Franklin.
21.01.2022 Nothing better than a huge mud puddle
21.01.2022 Kids under five years of age are more likely than older children to get severe flu infections resulting in hospitalisation. That's why In 2018 all children in NSW aged between 6 months and under 5 years of age will be offered free flu vaccines. Find out more: health.nsw.gov.au/kidsflushot
20.01.2022 Taking part in National simultaneous story time at the library. Alpacas with maracas
20.01.2022 It has been a while since we had a visit from the local king parrots. What beautiful friendly wild life we have at Stanwell Park Preschool. We are truly blessed to spend time in this stunning location every day.
19.01.2022 What a fantastic start we have had to 2019. All of our new children have settled in beautifully and we have now embarked on our weekly excursions program. We have started off last week with a visit from Healthy Harold where we had 3 very important questions for the children. 1. Did you eat breakfast? 2. Did you brush your teeth? ... 3. Have you washed your hands today? Healthy Harold used funny antics around these 3 important routines, and had the children in hysterics with his shy and playful manner. We look forward to seeing Healthy Harold again some time soon in the future.
19.01.2022 How important are bees in our environment? That is what we have been investigating during World Bee day / week.
19.01.2022 What a week we have had at Stanwell Park Preschool this week. We started with caring for our environment and participating in clean up Australia Day, then had a visit from Healthy Harold where went touched up on our knowledge about hand hygiene, then we had a visit from some silky chickens.
18.01.2022 Celebrating our love of literacy. A visit from Bright Spark from Paint the town REaD to share stories with the children. The theme of of story today was about healthy eating.
18.01.2022 What a great way to start the day than with a visit from Aunty Wendy this morning. Aunty Wendy shared traditional mapping skills with the children this morning and then they were able to share their mapped stories with their friends.
16.01.2022 A friendly visitor to preschool today. #lovewhereyoulive
16.01.2022 Another fun and informative visit from Aunty Wendy today where she shared how the termites ate out the centre of the didgeridoo to make a hole through it so the men could play it at ceremony. Women did not play the didgeridoo because it’s men’s business. The men would put the didgeridoo on top of a termite mound and wait for the termites to do their thing. The centre wood of the branch is very sweet and tasty so it didn’t take them long to work their magic.
14.01.2022 Connecting with our local community. Today we visited SRI VENKATESWARA TEMPLE with the children and learnt lots of new information about the Hindu religion. ... The children loved looking at all of the statues and carvings and this generated a lot of conversations.
14.01.2022 Out and about in our beautiful community today with the children. We are ever so lucky to live in such a spectacular part of the world. Today was a stunning day for a bush walk with the children, a really good way to work up to our bush kinder sessions. This is a part of our induction to bush kinder for the new children joining us this year. Next month we will commence running our bush kinder sessions with the children.
13.01.2022 We would like to wish One of our most valued educators, Aidan the best of luck tomorrow night at the award ceremony. Aidan is one of our Diploma trainees at Stanwell Park Preschool and was nominated for Trainee of the Year by Illawarra Tafe. Aidan has made it into the final few and we will find out tomorrow night if he will take out the award. ... It is such an honour to even be nominated up against other amazing educators in our region who are making such a big difference in children’s and families lives as you are, and it is so exciting that you have made it into the finals. We will be there supporting you tomorrow night and wish you all the best. You deserve this win, you are an amazing educator and the children of Stanwell Park Preschool are so lucky to have you in their lives. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
13.01.2022 Some of our Otford singing stars sang for Stanwell Park Preschool this morning. Thanks Lucinda for all your efforts and support for choir this year! Stanwell Park Preschool
12.01.2022 We have been so lucky to sponsor 2 cows at Country Valley Farm Dairy. We were able to go out to Picton on our bus and visit our cows and to see how a real dairy farm operates. We hope to continue to support our local farmers during their tough drought times over 2019 as the crops lost from this years lack of rain will effect the food supply well into next year. Great opportunity for the children to have real life experiences to relate too. Such a valuable experience for all.
12.01.2022 We were so lucky to have Shannon from "Push the Limit" come to the preschool yesterday to share what it is like to live using a wheelchair to get around. What a fantastic opportunity for children to see everyday people in our community with all sorts of abilities and skills participate in lots of different activities such as sports and water activities. Shannon spent time talking to the children and showing them pictures of people participating in wheelchair tennis, rugby an...d water sports such paddle boarding in a wheelchair. The children had the opportunity to ask Shannon questions and participate in some experiences, which allows them to feel what it might be like for even just a minute. Shannon also had the children participate in some activities which affect visually impaired people, by using blind folds and leading each other around the environment. Thank you Shannon and we can't wait to get you back again.
12.01.2022 To prepare for the commencement of our Bush Kinder sessions this year, we organised a visit from the ‘Living safely with dogs program’. This program teaches children how to act safely around dogs both out in community and at home with a pet dog. We look forward to practicing our skills out in country as we begin our Bush walk and kinder sessions.
12.01.2022 To follow on from our excursion to the Country Valley working dairy farm in Picton, the children have been able to see the next stage of food production by taking a behind the scenes tour of Woolworths. We were able to tour all the various departments and to also have a look at behind the scene where the deliveries come on the truck to how they store the food before it is put out for customers to buy. What a great extension of learning from paddock to plate.
12.01.2022 We love exploring outdoors when it rains, especially now when we haven’t seen much rain for so long. Nothing better than jumping in muddy puddles in our splash suits and gum boots.
11.01.2022 What a great way to end off the week but with a bush kinder session. It was amazing to see the new children to bush kinder, try out their tree climbing skills. We also saw some really creative children build a fairy garden and a camp fire. A lot of our children have been out camping with their families over the last few months of gorgeous warm weather, so it has reinforced that learning between family and preschool.
11.01.2022 A great big thank you to Trixi and Friends for coming to Stanwell Park Preschool and sharing your love of music with the children. They had a fantastic time joining in on your interactive show.
09.01.2022 As if child care hasn't had enough to deal with over the last few months, someone decided to climb over our back fence last night between the hours of 5pm and 8 am this morning and stole the children's black outdoor lounge (pictured) and a green reclining chair from our outdoor yard. I guess to steal from children you would have to be at rock bottom, so I hope they are comfortable on their new outdoor furniture and genuinely needed it. If you are out and about taking a walk please keep your eyes open..... Thanks and have a great weekend xxxx
09.01.2022 Here are some great tips for parents https://www.facebook.com/theempowerededucatormusings/posts/1677794742294557
08.01.2022 Empowering children with the knowledge to look after themselves and know what to do in the case of a bush fire. At Stanwell Park we are so lucky to be surround by such a rich environment but it is so important to know what to do if there is an emergency. A huge thank you to our local bush fire brigade, the children loved sitting in the fire engaging and having a turn at spraying the hose.
08.01.2022 Another awesome session with Aunty Wendy today, where we worked with ochre and created an awesome artwork together. It will be on display in our art gallery in the next few days after it dries, so pop down and have a look. Thanks again Aunty Wendy and Jordana for an entertaining morning Platypus Dreamin

07.01.2022 Exploring art space in Corrimal. Visiting ‘Deadly Dreaming’ exhibition by Aboriginal artist Sammy Hill. Traditional art incorporating modern pop culture. It is great to expose children to not only traditional art works but also modern day artworks and discuss how the artist has incorporated Aboriginal culture into each piece.
06.01.2022 Beautiful work Aunty Wendy. Can’t wait until you visit our preschool later this month.
05.01.2022 What an awesome experience the children had visiting Woolworths in Bulli. We toured the store through all of the fresh food departments and even out the back to see the coolers and receiving docks. We tasted some interesting fruits and got to see some seafood and how the mince gets made. ... We all had very full tummies after all the wonderful taste testing along the way. A huge thanks to Woolies Bulli for this amazing experience.
05.01.2022 A visit to Kennet Home today where we shared some old time fun games and songs. Dominos and art and craft and then singing the old favourites such as baa baa sheep and twinkle star with the residents. Beautiful intergenerational relationships in the making. Love our excursions into our beautiful community.
05.01.2022 DONT JUST UNENROL YOUR CHILDREN FROM THEIR EARLY EDUCATION AND CARE CENTRES PLEASE !!!! There is so much uncertainty in the world at the moment and so many people are losing their jobs, please dont add your child's educators to that list. I am NOT saying you should send them if you dont feel comfortable. What I am saying is DONT UNENROL THEM.... Talk to your centre first. There are a number of things in place from the government to help families and to stop centres from going bankrupt but these measures are only helpful if the children STAY ENROLLED. Firstly, if you or your partner has lost their job or had your wages cut, you can go on to your mygov page and apply for temporary financial hardship. This means that the government will pay your childcare fees in FULL for 13 weeks. The government has also committed to paying the CCS portion of the fees in the event that the centres do go in to lock down. What this means for centres is that we can keep paying our educators, our rent, etc etc etc. It means that at the end of all of this, there will be centres to send your children to. I implore you, please speak to your centre director and find out your options, BEFORE just pulling your children out. It will make the world of difference to our sector. If you have any questions I am happy for you to PM me. To all my friends, can you please share this as much as possible
05.01.2022 Story time at the library today with dancing and craft.
05.01.2022 Today we will release back into the wild our first frog from our pond of tadpoles. The children have named the frog 'Dude frog hoppy rainbow sparkles'. So Go free and find a friend and make some more tadpoles for our environment. We are teaching children to care for our environment and about life cycles. Thanks Bronte for sharing some of your back yard.
04.01.2022 Today’s visit to story time at the library, with a surprise visit from Billy Backpack. We read had discussions on going to school, read stories, sung songs, danced and participated in a craft activity.
04.01.2022 A week in the life of our preschool kids.
04.01.2022 Bush kinder session
03.01.2022 Another fun visit today to the library where were able to share some more book week books and create some wonderful craft.
03.01.2022 All about Bush Medicine today. Aunty Wendy spent the morning with us at preschool exploring some natural alternatives. We had Bush soap plants, tea tree, eucalyptus and tried some Bush berries. A great morning of learning. Thanks Aunty Wendy for sharing your traditional knowledge with us.
03.01.2022 What a great start to book week. Today the library came to visit and share some stories, games and dancing with us. Exposing children to literacy from an early age creates life long successful learners. READING IS MY SECRET POWER ... #bookweek2019 See more
02.01.2022 The latest edition to Art in the Park is this gorgeous Yowie made from rubbish found in the bush. The children were excited to see the Yowie but didn’t know what it was. They were fascinated with the springs for hair so we will talk about it over the next few weeks as we attempt to recreate our own Yowie using recycled items. Stay tuned
02.01.2022 Hi Families Just letting you all know that we are open this week and will stay that way until we are informed by the government that we must close. See you all tomorrow ... Stanwell Park Preschool Team
02.01.2022 Welcome to our fairy garden
01.01.2022 Today's visit to Kennett Home was exciting. We started with group resident and children's exercise and finished with ten pin bowling, grip ball and catch. Can't wait to visit again in 2 weeks.
01.01.2022 At Stanwell Park Preschool we love the idea of not boxing children in. When the children started to talk about Christmas we wanted to provide them with live images of what real reindeer’s and pine trees look like, rather than cartoon depicted images seen in most children’s story books. Those images are very monotone and unrealistic to what the real thing looks like. As we are surrounded by bush and often have deers at our back fence we thought it was relevant in our unique setting for the children of this community to have real life experiences offered to them and for them to be able to draw on their creative juices to recreate what they see. Transfer of image from mind, memory and sight to paper. What an amazing skill to have.
