25.01.2022 Today we remember those who fought for our freedom. Men, women, boys and girls who we never knew, but to whom we are forever grateful. Lest we forget. IN FLAND...ERS’ FIELD LIEUTENANT COLONEL JOHN MCCRAE, MD (1872-1918) In Flanders’ Fields the poppies blow Between the headstones, row on row, That mark our place, and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders’ fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders’ fields.

23.01.2022 The southerly change is charging up the coast, bringing some relief to coastal areas. By 3pm it had moved through Ulladulla and Kiama. While temperatures have dropped more than 10 degrees, be careful - the change is packing a punch, with very strong winds. #nswrfs #nswfires

22.01.2022 You know the alert levels of Advice, Watch and Act, and Emergency Warning. The way these are displayed on our website and Fires Near Me NSW smartphone app is c...hanging. Soon you’ll see these new icons. It’s part of the new Australian Warning System, to help you receive consistent information in emergencies no matter where you live, work or travel. While the icons may look different, what they mean doesn't change - you should check for information about what to do to protect you and your family. Keep an eye out for the new icons later this week. Check https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//gen/australian-warnings-system for info.

21.01.2022 So Queensland Fire and Emergency Services - QFES we've enjoyed the back and forth banter but it's all come down to this. 2020 has been a tough year. The only th...ing that would make it worse is putting up with Queenslanders yelling "one in a row" for the next six months. Go the NSW Blues! BTW... we've solved that border issue for you. #gotheblues #stateoforigin See more

20.01.2022 On this day last year, NSW experienced some of its worst fire danger ever recorded at the time with Catastrophic fire danger forecast across the Sydney, Great...er Hunter and Illawarra/Shoalhaven areas, leading to widespread school closures. Fire danger ratings are an important tool to help you make decisions about what to do and under these conditions, your only safe option is to leave early. You can learn more about the fire danger ratings, and check the rating for your area each day, at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fdr See more

17.01.2022 Know what to do when you hear a siren or see the flashing blue or red lights of an approaching emergency vehicle? When you hear a siren or see the flashing blu...e or red lights of an approaching emergency vehicle: * Give way to the emergency vehicle if you are stopped do not move until it is safe to proceed, even if the traffic light is green. If you are moving, you must slow down and stop if necessary to avoid a collision with the emergency vehicle. * Move out of the way as soon as you can safely do so * Move over as much as you can to the left-hand side of the road or, if possible, move onto the road shoulder or breakdown lane. On multi-lane roads, try to move into the left lane to let the emergency vehicle pass * Drivers on both sides of the road should be prepared to move out of the path of emergency vehicles * Emergency vehicles with sirens sounding or lights flashing responding to urgent situations are not required to follow the rules, as long as it is safe for them to do so. Drivers should always be extra cautious when they see flashing lights or hear sirens. https://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au//approaching-emerg

14.01.2022 Every day you'll find #NSWRFS and Indigenous communities working side by side, sharing knowledge, experience and culture - it's a partnership we're proud to be celebrating this #NAIDOCWeek

11.01.2022 It's been another challenging day for firefighters, working in extreme heat with dozens of fires across the state. The good news - the southerly change is headi...ng up the coast. It's already passed through the Illawarra region and is hitting the southern parts of Sydney, with temperatures dropping more than 10 degrees. Unfortunately, the hard work isn't over because the change will cause erratic winds at some of the fires we're working on. At 5pm, there's 62 bush and grass fires across NSW, with the fire at Faulconbridge at Watch and Act ahead of the change.

11.01.2022 Firefighters are on scene of a bush fire burning at Faulconbridge in the Blue Mountains. Additional crews are being sent to assist. Hot and dry conditions conti...nue in the area ahead of a southerly change in the next few hours. Monitor conditions. Updates at https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-inf/major-fire-updates/mfu See more

09.01.2022 Firefighters have been busy from border to border over the last few days, with a number of fires starting in these heatwave conditions. There's been more than ...100 fires in the past 48 hours, including one on the Queensland border where firefighters were flown in, and crop and grass fires near Berrigan in southern NSW. The hot weather continues today - so stay cool, stay safe and stay up to date. Pics: Morgan Fraser and Greyd'n Davis

06.01.2022 Temperatures are continuing to rise across NSW - and we're entering the hottest and most dangerous part of the day. There's currently 45 bush and grass fires ac...ross the state. All are at Advice level. Temperatures are nudging 40 degrees in many areas and strong north-westerly winds are being experienced. These are dangerous fire conditions and will remain until a southerly change sets in later today. The change has reached the south-east of the state and is expected in Sydney at around 5pm.

04.01.2022 A Total Fire Ban has been declared or the Illawarra/ Shoalhaven, Greater Sydney and numerous other areas from midnight tonight. Heatwave conditions coupled wit...h strong, gusty winds and low humidity will once again combine to make conditions difficult should any fires start. What can you do? Stay up to date. Discuss what you will do if you are threatened by a bush or grass fire and take action. Know the rules on a total fire ban day. Visit www.rfs.nsw.gov.au.
