20.01.2022 For today's activity you need some pom-poms, toilet rolls and an empty washing up liquid bottle. Cut a small opening in the bottom of the toilet rolls like a small cave, big enough for a pom-pom to fit through. Label the toilet roll with the colours of your pom-poms. Give your child a handful of pom-poms and then by squeezing the plastic bottle try to puff the pom-poms into the corresponding toilet roll. Learning Intentions The children will:... 1. Recognise colours 2. Begin to recognise colour words 3. Strengthen the muscles in their lower arms and fingers. See more

Learning colour names 2.Developing communication skills 3. Learning how the world works and the properties of water absorption 4. Developing problem solving skills

19.01.2022 Setup 11/11/2020 This week the children were exploring Gloop as a sensory activity. Gloop is made by simply mixing 2 cups of cornflour with 1 cup of water and a few drops of food colouring. This activity encourages lots of new words as the children explore the unusual characteristics of this mixture. The beautiful warm weather was perfect for lots of water play.

18.01.2022 Today's activity is simple but can address a number of learning intentions. Learning Intentions 1. Developing fine-motor skills and hand/eye coordination 2. Practising counting skills... 3. Sorting colours 4. Developing simple patterning skills Equipment Skewers Egg carton, playdough or something to keep skewers upright Coloured straws Scissors Activity Insert the skewers into the egg carton or playdough to make them upright. Cut the straws into small sections. (Older children could do this themselves) Ask the children to slide the straws onto the skewers. talk to them about colours. They can sort the colours and count how many of each. Older children can make a simple pattern. In the photos Thomas is making a great red/blue pattern. 18.01.2022 Setup. 9-9-2020 Such a beautiful sunny day for Setup this week. It was so beautiful the babies and their mum’s were able to be outside on a picnic rug. So lovely to have so many babies at the moment. This week the children did some printing with cut up vegetables. They were learning about colours, shapes, counting and patterning while developing fine and gross motor skills. The children also enjoyed our sensory split pea and lentil farm activity. Great activity for all ages.

18.01.2022 Setup 22/10/ Today the children of all ages enjoyed playing with our home made sensory bags. Some were made using snap lock bags and others were made using laminating pouches. The laminating pouches were stuck together using a hair straightener. William, Alby and William had fun creating a green bug sensory bag.

14.01.2022 Setup 16-9-2020 Chickpea Sensory Fun Chickpeas are really easy to colour. You simply empty a 375 gram bag of dried chickpeas into a bowl and mix with about 1/3 of a cup of water coloured with a few drops of food colouring. The chickpeas quickly absorb the liquid and are basically dry straight away. Provide the children with some plastic cups, jugs and containers and they will play for ages.

14.01.2022 One of our activities today involved sorting bugs into matching coloured bottle tops. The children used tongs to pick up the bugs which helps to develop and strengthen their fine motor skills. The first photo gives you a guide to other learning intentions which are being addressed in this activity. The children also greatly enjoyed the somewhat messy sensory activity. As you can see in the photos they were playing with dinosaurs in a green goop. This is just corn flour mixed in water with a little drop of food colouring. I used warm water today as it was pretty cold. I think the photos say it all! Super special to have some little bubs at Setup again today.

12.01.2022 It is fantastic to have Setup back at school. This week we had lots of fun playing with play dough, painting and playing in the sandpit. Our sensory activity this week encouraged plenty of experimentation with colours. We used tapioca pearls which had been soaked over night. The children experimented by adding small drops of food colouring to see what colours they could make. Some of the children loved getting their hands in the mixture. Tapioca pearls can be purchased from the supermarket for just a couple of dollars and it simply needs to be soaked in luke warm water over night.

11.01.2022 Setup 26-8-2020 Today we had a balloon day. We used balloons to do our paintings and to make ping-pong ball launchers. Some children simply enjoyed playing with a blown up balloon.

10.01.2022 Setup 12-08-2020 Today’s sensory activity couldn’t have been simpler but the children loved it. We simply added washing up detergent to some tubs of water and the children used whisks, hand beaters and other kitchen utensils to create bubbles. They then dropped objects into the mix. Tongs were used to retrieve the objects hiding under the bubbles.

10.01.2022 Gross Motor Development Parents often ask how they can prepare their children for a good start in Kinder. One answer could be by developing their gross motor skills as this impacts all areas of our lives. Gross motor movements involve the large muscles of the arms, legs and torso. Gross motor skill development goes hand in hand with fine motor skill development. To feel confident in all activities it is important to help children develop both areas. Some fun activities to i...mprove gross motor skills are listed below. 1. Balloon and bubble play 2. Music and dancing, try some action songs liked Hockey Pockey, I’m a Little Teapot and The Wheels on the Bus. 3. Visiting parks, playgrounds, climbing trees 4. Ball activities like throwing, catching, kicking, bouncing and rolling 5. Bouncing on trampolines 6. Playing tug of war 7. Playing crawling games. I’ve attached a video of some of my Kinder children showing how they are developing their gross motor skills. See more

09.01.2022 Taste Safe Sensory Foam Research shows that sensory play benefits young children in so many ways. It builds nerve connections in the brain’s pathways, which leads to the child’s ability to complete more complex learning tasks. Sensory play also supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills and social interaction. Today’s sensory foam is very easy to make.... Ingredients 1 cup juice from cooked or canned chickpeas 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar Food colouring Method Allow the children to make the foam with you, talk to them about measuring and how the mixture is changing. Place juice and cream of tartar into a bowl. Mix on high speed. When it starts to foam add a small dash of food colouring. Whisk until stiff peaks form. Left over chickpeas can be used to make hummus or dye them with food colouring. Allow them to dry out in the sun and use them for more sensory fun.

09.01.2022 Mrs Mac will be facilitating Setup today!

08.01.2022 Setup 28/10/2020 This week the children played with coloured spaghetti in our sensory bin. They were searching for hidden bugs and learning their colours and lots of new words. This is a cheap and simple activity to try at home. The spaghetti is cooked until it’s soft but not mushy. Then a teaspoon of vegetable oil and a few drops of food colouring. As soon as it’s cool the spaghetti is ready to use.
