It's that's simple and with no strings attached which is great !!!! Kerrie Curtis has created something precious for parents who have children with disabilities the chance to participate in a fun sport as a family. Kerrie introduced the Starfish Nippers program at the Hampton Life Saving Club to include children and young adults with any kind of disability in lifesaving. The program quickly grew from 10 kids to 38 Starfish Nippers, who each have a volunteer mentor at their side. It runs alongside the traditional Nippers sessions, enabling families to have fun at the beach together. The results have been phenomenal, with children initially unable to walk on the sand due to sensory issues now swimming in the water. Other are learning tube rescues and CPR like the lifesavers. Kerrie’s nominator says: The impact of Kerrie’s program on the starfish, families and mentors is simply priceless. For many, this one of the only activities they can access as a family. #westfieldlocalheroes
